Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Looking forward to our split stay (with BC) in August! It'll be our first time at Poly, and we'll only be doing MK days when where there (so not concerned about Epcot or other transportation). That said, I know that my DS (who is a train freak) would love a monorail-view room. I've looked at the stickies here, and Tikiman's pages, and did a search, but curious - is Aotearoa the only monorail-view option among the longhouses? It seems to be the lowest "ranked" per Tikiman, but wondering if anyone has any first-hand experience?

Rarotonga has some rooms that can see the monorail also and it’s in a better location but Aotearoa is not much farther from things, just not right next to things like the pools, bus stop and Great Ceremonial House like Rarotonga is.

If it's not sweltering we will def walk to the Grand, maybe in the evening...how long would you say the walk is?

As Cluelyss posted, it's only about a 10 minute walk, along a pretty path .

10 days!!! 10 days until we leave!! I am soooo freaking excited!! I ordered a specialty cake for our anniversary dinner at CG, online check in and such is done for our stay at the Poly, and I'm finishing up packing this week!! I am soooo excited to come back home and to finally fulfill our dream of staying at the Poly!! This week is going to go slow- and next week, even slower, but that's okay!! Thank you all for your amazing ideas, and suggestions/advice! I definitely wouldn't have been able to book this trip as well as I have without this thread!!!

11 days until I'll meet my parents at the Poly, and I paid off the room with Disney gift cards and still have some left to spend!

I am beyond excited. I'm calling this the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Trip, AKA the T5 Trip. This will be our first time staying at the Poly, our first time experiencing Trader Sam's, and my parents' first time at the Enchanted Tiki Room and at the Flower and Garden Festival! We're eating at Liberty Tree Tavern our first evening, another first. I really can't wait!!

I used tikiman's pages to help decide. http://www.tikimanpages.com/poly/the-resort/planning/item/60-which-longhouse? In particular that page was very helpful. I decided we would try to get Tokelau. I myself am hoping to get a view from the castle with our standard view studio, I'm not sure what to request to try to help make sure that happens. If you figure it out, or anybody else has any info I would be all ears!

For those of you who've stayed in Samoa, which pool side did you stay? Nanea or Oasis? For those who've stayed both, any preference?

Oh my! So excited, just booked an anniversary trip for late june at the poly villas (std view)!! We were booked for Swan, but was able to get poly for a reasonable rate, so I'm excited to make the switch.
Now, we've never stayed here before...so i need some help. With it being a trip with just DH and I we'll take things slower, enjoy the resort, trader sams , etc...
Since its coming up soon (less than 60 days!!!) I need a crash course in what we should NOT miss at the resort.
Thanks so much, i would appreciate any tips or advice.

Congratulation! We will be there in June also and got me to thinking of the things that we are looking forward to again!

- Sounds of the boat horns in the distance (just not at 2 am)
- Tropical feel
- Hearing Aloha daily
- Pool, pool, pool time
- Lapu Lapu, Banana Cabana, and Mai Tais for DH served by some of our favorite bartenders
- TONGA TOAST
- Dole Whips, no that line at MK is to long, I'll wait until we are back at the resort
- Tropical music
- Tiki Torches
- Quiet places off the beaten path
- Monorail X 2, boats x2, buses
- Location, location, location
- Nothing like returning at night and walking back to your room while watching fireworks!

I've stayed both and prefer Nanae side! I would like an in my face that I'm at the Poly.

Anyone have suggestions for room request on the DVC side (std view)? Besides a higher floor...is one building better/more convenient that the others..from the map, looks like Tokelau would be closest to pool and main resort areas. TIA

I have stayed Moorea for the last two trips; standard and then lake view. I liked the location but would request closer to Hawaii to be closer to the main pool. This year we are going standard again and requesting Tokelau with no preference in floor since I'm not much of a sit on the patio person. I also requested away from boat horns since they kept me up a lot last year with our lake view. I'm not interested in Pago Pago since I don't want to risk a parking lot view.

Has anyone requested or had a room in Niue? I know it only has 2 floors but I see all kinds of requests for the big ones like Somoa etc. but have not seen anyone talk about Niue. Just curious if it is in a good spot. Seems to be centrally located but was not sure why there is not much talk about it or what the views were like.

Niue is a great location if you want to be close to most of the activities at the resort. It is the smallest longhouse and is the only 2 story longhouse. The Great Ceremonial House is right next to it and there is a pool on each side. Since they contructed the Nanea pool in 2001 the path no longer runs right next to the building so it is a little more private than before. Now a stream runs just next to the longhouse.

Pros

• It is not a large building and it is in a great location being right next to the Great Ceremonial House
• Both pools are on either side of the longhouse and a short walk.
• There are Handicap Accessible rooms located in this building that give close access to many things.

Cons

• There are no balconies on the second floor and this is the only building without an elevator.
• For access to the second floor you can use the Rarotonga elevator and walk across the upper deck connecting the Rarotonga to Niue.
• There may be quite a bit of traffic along the path between the building and the pool and the Island Guide golf carts travel next to this building alot.
• There are no king beds available.

If you happen to be on the boat while the water parade is parked in front of the Polynesian, the boat will wait until the water parade moves on. While I have never had this happen at the Polynesian, we did have to wait on the parade to move on from WL while returning from Hoop De Doo one evening. Perhaps the timing is better from MK to GF and GF to Polynesian. The boat may hold at GF until the parade has cleared the Polynesian or you would be sitting on the water until it has moved on. Frankly, it is pretty cool to view the parade from the boat and it doesn't take all that long for it to move on. I think I would rather bide my time on the boat than stand in a huge line at the monorail IF the queue is large. The odds of "perfect timing" to be held up by the parade though are minute I would think.

Last summer, we were on our first trip, and we found we loved the boats even more than the monorail. So, we used them a lot. Twice when returning from MK, we ended up being behind the water parade, and it was really cool. One time, we did slow down a bit between GF and the Poly to give the parade a little time to get out of the way. The other time, we were back enough that we could only see a bit of the parade. I highly recommend the boat, and if you can time this just right, watching the parade from the boat is an added bonus.

Tokelau...That's what i thought too after looking at map and then confirmed by pp link above. Now I'm wondering how i actually go about requesting. Didn't see any options besides floor height and elevator access on online check in. I've read you can fax resort, but wasn't sure how to locate #...or do you just ask when you check in. We did a room request at BWV but we had rented points, so the my contact at the rental company did it for us, Just wasn't sure what i needed to do.
Oh and obviously i don't know for sure, but on that site a pp listed it shows that 2nd and 3rd floors both have balconies. So, that's a plus i think

Here now, 3rd floor Fiji marina/lava pool view. I can't believe this is considered a standard view. It is amazing!! I can see the Contemporary and a lot of Bay Lake. I like it for the location to TCH, CC. I like that it is not right next to the pool and my DS3 could sit out on the balcony and watch the boats all day!! This is my first stay at the Poly in a long time and I am loving it! Agree the boat horns get annoying after a while....a little noise from the people on the path.

(It was our choice but I didn't know standard included hallway view) We picked here for the tropical feel and relaxing we could do on the balcony. Not going to happen. After a 2 day trip here, it's pretty much killed any excitement I had.

Sorry, lots of questions as I plan now for my parents to join me at the Poly in less than 2 weeks!

How early should we get a table at the Trader Sam's outdoor terrace if we want to watch a 10:00 PM Wishes from the table? This would be a Friday or Saturday night. It looks like some but not all tables have decent views of Wishes. I know the beach and the marina may have better views, but I really want my parents to be able to hear the music, too - they've never seen Wishes!

So I looked today and some of the tables on the side closest to the Marina have decent views as long as you aren't concerned about being able to see the castle prominently. I'd say if you wanted any table, 9:30 would be ok to arrive but if you want a specific table you probably need to be there earlier. Visually, you'd probably be better off taking your drinks and going to the tables outside Capt Cooks but I don't know if they play the music so that may be a trade off. Good luck. I hope you find something that works well for you and your parents.

I remember in your other posts you were hoping for a view of wishes or the beach. Sometimes all the time spent on the DIS sets people up for unrealistic expectations and disappointment. I've been there, done that too. Don't let your view ruin your vacation. Kids don't care about views, they just care about spending time with their families, well ....and the parks too! Hope your stay gets better!

i was just about to post the same message. Well stated! We just returned and found so many locations around the Poly where you can be immersed in that tropical feel you desire. I hope you manage to find happiness in the time you have left at that awesome resort.
