Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

When we first got to the pool yesterday around 11:00 crowds weren't bad at all. As the day went on it got very crowded and I saw many families looking for chairs but none were available. The pool was full but not too full that you couldn't enjoy it. I think the biggest problem at the pool is shade. More shade is needed. I found it uncomfortable when sitting on the lounger for a few minutes; it's just too dang hot so I'd have to get up to take a dip in
the pool to cool off a little. I think the kids play area helps with crowds; many kids over there.
I totally agree about more shade needed. We actually waited to go swimming until after dinner so we didn't fry in the sun. It was much more comfortable that way.

Whatch em put up more tables with umbrellas at certain places and charge money for them.

I know this is off topic but where is online check in and where do you do it? I don't see it and I only have the ability to request one longhouse and a floor (ex Samoa Balcony) am I missing something or is it because I used the deal not to be named?
In MDE you will see what your seeing, then for actual online check in you'll get an email inviting you to confirm the same information. The choices you see for room are the only choices available. People who are more specific must be calling Disney to make requests or using some other method, maybe fax, IDK. All I can say is I do not have good luck with making room requests with online check in!! So many go on and on about room requests on the DIS, I don't know what the secret is to getting those requests!

We just checked in today (well, I guess yesterday now) and we love it here. I requested third floor Samoa and my request was granted. We are facing the quiet pool and I do enjoy the quietness of that side of Samoa. The new pool area is great! My boys love the new kids area by the main pool. I agree with other posters that more shade is needed by the pool. Hopefully some umbrellas or something will be added soon. We love the new lobby. I think it looks better in person vs. pictures I've seen. We think the resort is gorgeous and we all enjoyed our first day here. :)

Hope you have a great time :wizard:.

The convenience of Samoa is awesome so I'm very happy to be in this building.

I agree. We stayed in Samoa and loved it as it's so convenient to everything :goodvibes.

I thought I read recently that the trees that used to hold the hammocks are now gone, so the hammocks will not be back

This makes me sad :(.

We just got back. Sorry... we did not see any hammocks anywhere.

:sad1:

You can call Disney and ask to add a room request. If you have an agent, just tell your agent you'd like to add a room request & they'll call it in for you. When you call it in you can be more specific. But it's not good to be too specific. And as always, a request is not guaranteed. :) But at least they can try & match the room to what your preferences are. For example, near transportation or close to the pool or a particular building or section.

Construction on the quiet pool hasn't started yet so I can't comment on that. Right now the view is great from the room. We actually had a choice between a second floor room facing the main pool or a third floor room facing the quiet pool. Obviously we picked third floor because I like having a balcony even though I don't physically sit on it a lot; the option is there if I'd like to. Also, I was worried that the main pool would get to be too noisy. Last night when we came back from the MK, the tiki torches were lit by the main pool and I thought the whole area (main pool, marina, GF in back) looked so pretty so I'm sure the view from Samoa main pool side is beautiful. The convenience of Samoa is awesome so I'm very happy to be in this building.

Thank you so much for your response! I didn't realize they didn't start yet. That's great! I hope they don't start construction on the quiet pool for a while. I'll be there August 31-September 4th. Would be nice to not have that. :)

Hey guys anyone who has been recently know if the hammocks are back yet? I really loved spending time laying in the hammocks last time we were at the Poly and I'm kinda unnecessarily devastated that they took them away! If anyone goes soon and spots them please report back!
I loved the hammocks too. Even if the trees are gone :sad1: they could use wooden 4x4s to hang them from like they do at some of the other resorts, POR & CSR come to mind. But swaying in a hammock under a palm tree was a little bit of heaven!!

Did you consider the pool crowded and was pool gate working?:confused3 HOPE you had an AWESOME TRIP!:Pinkbounc

I agree with you about the new lobby. We went over in January during our POR stay to check it out and grab a bite at Capt Cooks. It does look better in person. I'll always miss the big water feature, but new lobby looks nice, and you can see the castle!
Can you ask when they're going to start construction on East Pool?

Blessings SueM, hoping you heal fast! Skin checks every 6 months for me, lost my dad to melanoma at a very young age. Disney has tons of umbrellas on castaway cay, I hope they provide more at Poly, for some of us needing shade, it's a serious concern. Please everyone check your skin and be careful, ok, done with my public service announcement, sorry:flower1:.
Let me add: sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen and reapply often. Also, a light long sleeve shirt and hat.

Here now and don't see any hammocks.

The pool gates are kind of hard to figure out. You scan your band but it really doesn't show exactly what to line it up with. Once it scans correctly I think you have to hurry and try to open gate or else it resets.

We were at the pool today until they cleared it due to lightning. I think the same old problem exists and that's the dirty towels that people leave on chairs. We are learning to get rid of their towels ourselves so that we can have a place to sit....

AMAZING how lazy and sloppy some can be.:confused3 Doesn't take much effort to deposit used towels when you are leaving in the dirty bin! Have a little consideration for the person who might be waiting to use your chair!>:( ENJOY your stay!:thumbsup2

An email? That's a new one. I've never gotten an email after I completed online check in.

As for what options there are when checking in, this is what I can pick from, for a Standard Room. I suspect the options vary based on room category.

I have read that Poly was delaying start on construction at quiet pool until after 4th of July weekend.

Hi there, I'm a bit confused about the DVC longhouses. Are they totally off limits for regular guests? I see Tokelau has standard rooms and it sounded like Tikiman said standard view costumers could request it. Is that true? Thanks!

yes an email to confirm online check in and you can skip the front desk. I'm here now, stayed at BLT first, then YC where they had me go to check in to do something with our magic bands. We go to Poly next for the 4th!

I believe this is still in testing phase, so not everyone is getting the direct to room emails yet.

Anyone can book a DVC room just like you can book regular rooms, it's a seperate booking category. So if you haven't booked a DVC room, you can't request Tokelau. It's a bit confusing.
