Unless you climb the barrier and get into the water, you have nothing to worry about
But alligators can climb those barriers too. At least that is what my family was told on our way to the NASA launch pad last year. The bus driver there told us that alligators are kept out of certain NASA areas by tall fences with a back-angled fence on top. He said alligators cannot grasp and so they fall back, but that they can certainly climb a regular vertical fence. That being said, I personally believe the small fences around WDW lakes are more of a deterrent for us going into the water.

We LOVED our 2 night stay at the Poly last December and we're headed back for 2 nights using our DVC points this September (adding on to the end of a 7 night Pop stay). I've requested Tokelau based on views from TP. Is this the best request for a studio? We've only stayed on the cash side before. I must say, last December we stayed TPV at the Contemporary and at the Poly and while the Contemporary was lovely for fireworks, the Poly just felt so relaxed! We're excited to be able to stay again. Our first night will be MNSSHP but the next day we're planning on relaxing at the resort. We'll definitely do the Twilight Feast and I'm going to remember to mention my shellfish allergy this time. Last Dec we ordered it but the shrimp was on the same plate as all the other meat so I couldn't eat it. Totally my fault for not mentioning it!

Any other tips on spending several hours just enjoying the resort?
I just love all of it.

The food, grounds etc.

At night to stroll and enjoy the music and tiki lights.

The fav tho for me is riding the boat in a loop to mk/gf and back. At night its so pretty but all hours it is great.

I have stayed at poly many times but did the dvc studio one night 12/31/18. (all i could find last minute)

I loved the room! The extra bath was great too.

The colors were pretty.

Each building has a lobby on each floor which is nice to relax if waiting for a family member "to get ready already!"

DDs fav always was a drink sitting on the beach looking at her castle(lol we all think that!)

I booked a 2020 package when they released last month. Staying at the Poly again and so excited! I noticed today when I was making some payments on the package, that the original package price decreased about $80 from when I first booked it. The email showed a new price on the payment confirmation email. Not that I'm complaining, just thought that it as weird. Any clues?

I saw some chatter where the weekend rates kept changing so maybe that did it?

The incident that happened there a couple of years ago was very unfortunate. There are signs telling people to stay out of the water They were in the water when it happened. If you stay on the walking paths, you will be fine.

You can bring food in. We just rented a patio on our stay and it was wonderful. This pool is much more casual. No lifeguards and they ave a bar/restaurant and server. You could easily bring food and no one would bat an eye.
I was planning on stopping by Capt. Cooks and buying some fruit and cheese to enjoy at the patio that we are renting during our stay. 8-)

Just thought of this last night, we stayed in Fiji last year and the elevator was so small. We could fit our whole family in it if we played Tetris and angled our stroller (city mini double) the right way, but usually DH or I took the stairs with the older kids while the other took the stroller in the elevator. Are all elevators in the long houses as small 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, are there ice machines on every floor? Since the fridges don’t have the freezer box (if memory serves correct,) we’ll need to make some make shift ice packs with ziplocs to keep milk cold in our cooler bag when we head to the parks.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, they’re pretty tight. You definitely feel the most “70s” in those, lol. It was the only real drawback of being on the third floor of Rarotonga, but the monorail zooming past our balcony more than made up for it, and we were so close to the back stairs that we opted to take them instead more often than not. We only used the elevator on check out day and a few times being exhausted coming back from parks at night.

Ice machines should be on every floor and they’re by the elevator iirc.

I know the answer is on this thread but I’m awful at searching so can someone please share with me what order the monorail stops are leaving the Poly?

Getting excited about going home to the Poly in Sept! 🌺 Hoping you lovely folks can help with a couple of questions.

1. Has anyone ever arrived very late, around midnight or after? What is the process?

We have a wedding we have to attend (family) on our arrival day outside of Savannah. DH is insistent he wants to drive though that night, so that puts us rolling into the Poly around midnight, or a little earlier if we're lucky. How late is the concierge desk open? Will we be able to check in that late, or should we check in online and call ahead of time to let them know we'll be late? I guess we'll miss the whole lei experience which stinks, but the kids will be zombies when we get there anyway.

2. Has anyone had success combining reservations so you don't have to switch rooms?

We chose to add a day on the end of our trip after we found out about the wedding so it's technically a different reservation. Will we have any luck combining the reservations when we check in and requesting that we remain in the same room (I should mention we rented DVC so this is not a regular resort res)? We plan to do HS that morning and return for pool time and then head out to MNSSHP that night. We'd hate to be in between rooms during the afternoon.

So what does everyone do with their valuables while at the pool? I know, leave them in the room. However, we will most likely need to have a phone b/c we usually aren't all going at the same time. Has there been issues with theft at the pools? Thanks

I bought this on the recommendation of my brother who travels to beach resorts a lot, and was very pleased with it. Not foolproof, but much better than just leaving it sit there like many people do. I want to stop the impulse thief, and feel this does a very good job at that. ( I hope the link works. If not, it's a pacsafe travelsafe G2 portable safe. He recommended it because it packs flat, unlike the other one I was considering.)

To be honest, we just leave them in a bag or whatever we have with us on our chair. Probably not the safest or smartest thing in the world, but for us it’s a calculated risk we’re ok to take.

Many times over the years our flight arrived late. You just check in because the desk is open. If you did online Ci and get the text , just go to your room.

FYI at poly (not dvc) the 1st digit is floor number , 2nd digit is building number. So if get a text 2x13 and you want a patio or balcony go to lobby 1st before room to get it changed.

I always call and have it noted “continuing reservation” . However you are still required to check in on that day . I usually do 1st thing in the morning before heading to parks.

Great majority of time I have seen it works fine. Always a possibility to move but not likely.

I am another just leave my phone on my chair. It’s under a towel to keep cool but still just left there.

There is always a chance but I can keep an eye on my chair easily enough since I don’t have any kids/distractions.

I also make an effort to say hello to people sitting near me. I always say “I am alone’ . Silly but when I am out there myself (family elsewhere) I kind of assume they will watch my stuff since I tend to watch others stuff when I’m at a pool. Lol I feel like we all one happy Disney lovin’ family.
