We stayed at the Poly about 7 years ago, in a building that was really close to the TTC. We would like to stay in that again this year, does anyone know which building that is? Also, when we made the reservations the CM said that Poly had went through a major refurbishment. Are all the rooms getting redone? I thought it was just they added on the DVC part. Can't wait to go be there in 173 days.:yay:

The buildings close to the TTC are now DVC; the closest to TTC is Pago Pago, which is all villas now. Of the non-DVC longhouses, you might consider Ratatonga. It is Standard View rooms.

Rarotonga is where we usually stay and if you go out the end of the building further from the GCH, it is a pretty quick walk in front of the DVC longhouses and over to the TTC.

Those that just arrived, have a great time! I hope someone got my awesome room. Fiji 3315.

We were neighbors! We were in Fiji 3303 all last week.

And you didn't invite us to that wild party you had!:D

It's the filtration system they use...instead of chlorine with the cartridge, diatomaceous earth or whatever systems usually used...friends of mine use it in their new inground pool...it's just a different filtration/sanitation system. Water was not salty to the taste, but softer and no heavy chlorine smell.

They use something different in the lava pool too. It instantly tarnished all my sterling silver jewelry and I'm pretty sure it damaged my contact lenses (monthly disposables so not a big deal but I had a hard time seeing by the end of the trip). I've never had that happen in a pool before. I also saw that the signs say don't swallow the water. I laughed because who doesn't know not to drink chlorine water - why do they feel the need to put it on a sign? But it seemed like they're using something very different than your typical chlorinated pool.

Uh I was just there and I didn't taste any salt. :confused3
We have had a salt water pool at home for 10 years. It is so much easier to maintain. The pool just "makes" chlorine as needed.

Each spring we add many bags of salt to the pool. Then sometimes the system will ask to add some more. However compared to checking actual chlorine daily or even hourly at Disney, this is quicker, cheaper and more accurate.

For the most park I don't taste it either. Just tried to explain the difference in adding 40 pound bags of salt vs chlorine tablets. Hope that helps.

Here's my "quick before I forget" trip report. I cannot figure out pictures!! I have more of a general report too, which I"ll post separately. I'll post on the CL forum as well.

We arrived around 11 o’clock at resort. Checked in at main lobby. Did not have connecting rooms, which was only request. We were given ‘card keys’ to access other room in our party. After being checked in in the main lobby we were personally escorted to club level lobby and essentially checked in again. Again asked for connecting rooms and were told none were available. I checked that my request for a ‘full’ crib (not pack n play) was noted and told that it was. We were given a ‘check in’ packet with information. I noticed later in the week that when others were checked in they were give much more verbal and printed information than we were. Such as a print out of their fast pass reservations, dining reservations, information regarding the club, etc.

We waited in club level lounge for our room to be ready. I also took kids to the pool. We got a text around 2pm that rooms were ready. We had gorgeous third floor rooms at the end of the hall farthest from lobby. The rooms were very clean. Our shower faucet dripped non-stop and the faucet handle needed caulking, but that was it. There was no crib. I went to concierge and was told that the request was not showing, so it must have been ‘filled.’ Back to room – there was a pack n play. Back to concierge – I told them I requested a full sized crib, not a pack n play. The staff member immediately got on phone and within 30 minutes we had a full sized crib. Glad it all worked out, but it should not have taken so many trips to the concierge desk to have this resolved.

First night in lounge was fantastic. Fresh sushi, veggies, fruit, cheese, drinks. Staff was extremely attentive and eager to clear dirty dishes and bring more offerings. We had turn down service that evening and received a welcome box of chocolates.

I know a lot of people want to know what the food offerings were, so I’ve included them here. I have to be very honest and say that for my family CL was not about the food and CL is not ‘worth it’ for the food. If your bottom line is saving money on food, then look elsewhere. For us, CL was ‘worth it’ for the convenience. We have two young children and were also traveling with grandparents. We got a great discount on CL and the cost was about the cost of a standard room at the Poly, so we went for it. We ate breakfast in the lounge every day, had lunch at Poly or a park, and made a dinner out of the evening offerings. We are not big eaters. We are also not big drinkers. Neither my husband or I drink soda on a regular basis, nor alcohol. My parents enjoy 1 or 2 sodas a day. At CL I had a glass of wine every night which was nice and my father had a beer. We noticed that other families were enjoying beers and the CL staff happily got them drinks if they were not out on the counter. I think if you enjoy having beer, wine, etc then CL might be a great option. No one was ‘watching’ you or limiting drinks. We just don’t happen to drink much, but I was glad to see that other families could enjoy a variety of drinks without being ‘limited.’

Breakfast offerings varied only slightly. Every day they had cold cereal (fruit loops, special K, and raisin bran), hard boiled eggs, oatmeal (with a selection of dried fruit and granola), bagels, and fruit. Some days they had mini muffins (blueberry and chocolate chip) and some days croissants. Coffee, tea, milk, and OJ. Mid-day snacks included gold fish, potato chips with dip, occasionally gummy bears, some ‘snack mix,’ or chocolate covered peanuts. They had out iced tea, lemonade, and POG juice during the day. I know some love those homemade chips, but personally I thought they were disgusting. I believe one day they had out veggies, but they were gone by the time we returned to the lounge and when asked we were told they were all out. They were always apples, bananas, and oranges in the lounge. The oranges were amazing (thanks Florida) the apples were blah (hey, I’m from apple country).

Evening offerings. Every night they had out cucumbers and carrots. They also had a variety of cheeses and crackers every night. There was always a cheese spread (like a goat cheese), and cheese ‘cubes’ like cheddar or pepper jack, etc. Fresh fruit included strawberries, cantaloupe, honey dew, raspberries, kiwi. Some nights they had out uncrustables. Two nights we had chicken wings, two night we had ‘asian’ pierogis. One night we had mushroom fritters. One night was conch fritters. One night chicken quesadillas. There were fried spring rolls another night. A few nights they had mini corn dogs which the kids liked. Overall, the hot apps were very disappointing. The sushi was great and the wings were good. (Although I lived in Buffalo, NY and am a wing snob.) Everything else was just ok. I’d compare the hot app quality to Applebees or something you could get in the frozen food section. Very greasy, very fried. The sushi was the best and unfortunately we only had that one night.

Desserts. My husband and son had desserts most nights while I put our daughter to bed. They enjoyed them, but said they weren’t ‘anything special.’ They would try every dessert and bring me back ‘the winner.’ I had a chocolate mousse which was good and a brownie which was good too.

What I did love (and was the biggest perk for us food wise) was that we could ask for chocolate milk, milk cartons, apple juice boxes, and uncrustables to have for the room/pool/parks. You just have to ask. I repeat – you have to ask. If I didn’t read the Disboards I would not have known this. If they have them available they will gladly provide them. We grabbed juice boxes and uncrustables to have a snacks/lunch in the park and it worked out really well. I feel that I need to add, we got enough for our kids for the day, we didn’t horde. ☺ The kids also loved having fruit loops to snack on in the parks. They have out ‘to go’ cups and bowls with lids. What they did not have was bottled water. They will provide a carafe of water, but you obviously can’t take that to a park! We just refilled a water bottle from the carafe. Soda was always out in the cooler and coffee was always available.

Bottom line – CL was “worth it” for our family on this trip. We are not park commandos. We have small kids and grandparents, so we need down time. We would go to the park in the morning and spend the afternoon and evening at the resort. We spent our travel days and one full day at the pool, my parents spent two full days at the pool. Having easy access to breakfast, coffee, snacks, water, etc was amazing. The location of the building was amazing. For me the convenience was worth the cost. However, next time we might just use a grocery service.

Overall, the families we encountered at CL were polite, kind, and courteous. We didn’t experience any rude guests or unruly children. But I also understand that that is the luck of the draw. There was more than one family with a special needs person while we were there. The staff was so attentive to their needs that it was heartwarming. I also overheard many allergy requests and it appeared that the staff was on top of allergy concerns.

The club always appeared to be clean to me. Was it spotless? No. Clean? Yes. I observed staff wiping tables, sweeping floors, and just picking up in general. Dirty dishes were always cleared. Sometimes we ‘bussed’ our own plates and other times a cast member would pick them up for us. The dirty plates that people bused themselves were always promptly removed. On a side note, one day I went over to Capt Cooks because I wanted/needed a salad (hello Disney?!?! Where are your veggies?!?!!?) I thought Capt Cooks was filthy. And I mean filthy. Food debris everywhere, dirty tables, dirty floor, condiments splattered on the counters, napkins strewn everywhere. I couldn’t get back to the CL lounge fast enough.

Some of the staff members were just outstanding. My son became fascinated with the beer bottle caps that would collect in a bowl by the drink area. One of the cast members, Alfredo, actually started saving the caps for him and gave them to him. My son thought this was just the coolest.

Poly in general. We loved the location of Hawaii building. Absolutely perfect location for the two pools, the beach, and transportation. The rooms were huge. My husband and I each took a queen bed, our daughter was in a crib and our son was on the sleeper sofa. Storage was great. Enough drawers for all our clothing and we stuck our suitcases in the closets (and we had big suitcases and a car seat!!). We also got lucky in that our room was farthest from the lounge and very quiet. Third floor balcony was great. My parents spent a lot of time on theirs having coffee or just enjoying the view. We could hear fireworks at night. Also, if we were in the room for a midday nap we could clearly hear the cleaning staff in the hallway and going in and out of rooms, but that is typical. I thought the building was clean and well kept. There were cracker crumbs, etc in the hall, but I never noticed them there for more than a half a day. People put their left over room service trays in the hallway, and they were promptly removed. Our room was always clean and made up by the time we returned from the parks around 1-2pm. Mousekeeping did up towel animals and arranged the kid’s plushes in funny ways. We always had enough soaps, etc. We tipped Mousekeeping daily. One complaint about the bathroom – there are no hooks or laundry line. I had no place to hang wet bathing suits in the bathroom!

The Oasis Pool is AMAZING. Two days my parents were there early enough to get a cabana. They have these permanent cabana structures with cushioned chairs and a couch under them. They also have an outlet so we could charge our phones and ipads. It was heavenly. They had wait staff walking around asking if anyone wished to order drinks or food. When you order from the bar they give you a sign with a number that you place by your spot and they deliver the food when it’s ready. I enjoyed the food at Oasis bar more than Capt Cooks. Main pool was lots of fun, but crowded and loud. Staff was constantly picking up used towels and cleaning the area, which was nice to see. There weren’t many tables and umbrellas in the pool area. Life guards were very vigilant.

Biggest complaint – the beach area. It was so dirty! The sand had trash in it – straws, cups, napkins, bottle caps, etc. Mostly people not picking up after themselves or things just get blown away. They did rake the sand every morning and organize the beach chairs.

Transportation. The “little boat” from the Poly to MK was a lot of fun. We rode it once and the kids enjoyed it. Monorail from resort to MK was ‘delayed’ a few minutes one day, but another time it was running on schedule. Once day while we were waiting for a bus to HS we overheard that the monorail was down. My husband kindly suggested to a woman who was clearly annoyed, that she simply walk over to the TTC and take the big ferry boat or bus. She just wasn’t hearing it. But even if the monorail is down, the TTC is so close that any inconvenience is really minimal. My parents waited a very long time (30-40min) one evening for a monorail from EPCOT to the TTC. We took the monorail from the TTC to EPCOT one day. Other days we took the bus. I loved having the bus arrival times on a screen in the waiting area.

Radom kindness. I encountered so much random kindness this trip. For example, my three year old daughter went nuts every time she saw a “Mickey balloon” and we saw a lot of them! I told her that she could get one when we went to “the castle.” One day we were walking into the lounge and a family was walking out. They had a mickey balloon and my daughter just got so excited. The family was leaving that day and couldn’t take the balloon with them, so they gave my daughter the balloon. She was in absolute heaven. The balloon was on her stroller at all times or by her crib at night. Then on our departure day I told my daughter we couldn’t take the balloon with us. I told her that we needed to find a little girl to give the balloon to just like a little girl gave her balloon to us. (terrified all the while my daughter would melt down!) Well, she pointed out a little girl in the lobby and gave her the balloon. As it turns out, it was that little girl’s birthday. The mother and the little girl were just so happy! And my three year old was so pleased with herself. Little acts like that that made our trip special.

My kids also enjoyed the marshmallow roast on the beach. They just have marshmallows, so if you want to make true s’mores, you need to bring graham crackers and chocolate.

Torch lighting ceremony was amazing to watch. We all enjoyed that.

CL has sand pails and shovels for the kids. We actually had to ask for them, I don’t know why they just didn’t hand them out.

Another random bit of pixie dust. We were at Hollywood Studios in the courtyard area. The kids were fascinated with a remote controlled BB8, so we were just watching it. A cast member came over and gave us BB8 pins and offered us Star Wars name tags at no cost! My husband, son and daughter all got star wars name tags. I think it made my husband’s day. ☺ The storm troopers marching through the courtyard and patrolling the area was amazing. We must have watched them four times! They pump in the music and everything. Even my parents enjoyed this!

We happened to be in Fantasyland by the sword in the stone one day. As my son was trying to pull it out two characters come up and started a little show. (of course I missed the whole thing because Jo needed to go potty, thank goodness for iphones!) But they were searching for the “hero of Fantasyland” and were picking people to pull the sword out of the stone. My son of course volunteered. After two other people tried and failed, my son had a turn. And he pulled out the sword! He didn’t stop talking about this the whole trip. We went back to MK another day and the only thing Liam wanted to do was to try the sword and the meet the characters again (I can’t remember their names). We tried the sword, but no luck this time. As we were walking out we ran into the characters! Liam was just so excited and chatted with them. This was a highlight of his trip. (beside Jawa trading) This is the stuff you just can’t plan. This is what makes Disney so magical.

Check out was a breeze. Received information under our door before leaving. We requested an earlier bus time because security at Orlando airport is a MESS.

Havekidswilltravel, thanks for your detailed TR!:goodvibes We were at the Poly in October and we noticed no cleanliness problems with Captain Cooks. That is disturbing to read. Oasis Pool was not yet opened then so we are VERY EXCITED to experience it! Looking forward to having lunch at Oasis Pool and relaxing on those nice lounges, but if I notice lack of cleanliness at CC for breakfast I will be speaking to a manager. Hope you had a trip!:thumbsup2

Did I dream that you can order room service from Ohana (or maybe it was the luau?) I'd swear I saw that you could, but have searched high & low on here & Allears & can't find anything about it. If anyone has done this or knows where I can find the info please share! Thanks!

Believe I read it too perhaps Sept October time frame from Ohana. Think they referred to it as Ohana feast in that the portions were SO HUGE and fresh, another words if there were 3 people they ordered room service for 2! Looked delicious! Nice option if too tired to run out for dinner!:goodvibes

Its called the Twilight Feast on the In-Room Dining menu. It is very similar to the 'Ohana menu with a few differences. It comes with a lot of food so if your order, don't order for the amount of people you have. If it is for two you can order for one. We had 8 and ordered for 6 and had a bunch left over.
It includes including Spiced Chicken Wings, Asian-style Pot Stickers, Yokisoba Noodles, Stir-fried Vegetables, special 'Ohana Sunset Punch; followed with skewered meats and oak-grilled shrimp seasoned. Bread Pudding is included.
$20.00 for guests 9 and under
$40.00 for guests 10 and older

Awesome thanks - that's exactly what I was looking for!
