This free service is not available to / from Orlando sanford Airport? What is everyone's suggestions that have flown into Sanford? We are doing Allegiant because it is half the price of anything else we want but disappointed that airport isnt listed on their website for the free transportation.

No, DME only services MCO. You'll have to rent a car, uber/lyft or private car service.

I just used DME from MCO and totally agree with the above-ground transportation can be $$$. We fly from a smaller airport and were lucky that SW flew direct once a day-again forth every single Penny. Had never used Disney transport in our other trips -not sure why-but we did this time-both ways and were simply amazed and pleased with the service. Worth investigating your flight choices in the overall cost scheme for sure.

FWIW, I think Uber/Lyft would be the cheapest option. The cheapest I'm seeing is an UberX which will be about $70 each way roughly. If you have more than 2 or 3 people, with luggage, you'll need an UberXL which looks to be about $95 each way, give or take.

You may be able to rent a car for less than that, but then you'd have to hassle driving yourself (Orlando traffic, ugh) and you'd have to hassle returning it on property or else pay parking fees at your resort. You'd likely also pay a fee to return the car to a different location.

....and worth noting?

This is the primary reason why we don't use Allegiant. TOTAL trip cost to & from WDW must factor in Ground Transport, which can run up to a cool $200 plus when fooling with Sanford Airport :(.
Thanks! It is a few hundred cheaper it seems so it is hard to pass up. havent booked yet but need to soon. We plan on renting a car from the airport for 2 days since doing a beach day. We then planned on doing taxi or Uber if didnt offer transportation. I have never done it though. your guess is it is about hundred bucks one way to uber to Orlando Sanford from a Disney resort?

You'll also be paying a parking fee at your Disney resort. The amount differs, depending on where you're staying. When you add in ground transportation, Sanford rarely comes out cheaper.

My sister always flies Allegiant out of Asheville, due to costs, and it pretty much forcing me to when we go in the fall together. The only reason I'm willing to is because we were already going to be renting a car for our trip to visit family in the area and Universal for a day or two, otherwise I would tell her I'd meet her down there, fly in to MCO and take MDE. I told her we aren't actually saving anything once you factor in the car and parking fees, but she doesn't care.

We fly in to Sanford pretty often- can have used Uber and we've used a private co- either way it ran us about $150. But even then, that saved us $$$ because Allegiant's rates were so much better than reg airlines going to MCO.

I was just about to post i wondered if my situation was unique because crunching the numbers for the availability and time i need, Allegient saves about 400-500 for 3 of us round trip. We are getting a rental for just 2 days anyways since beach time outside of disney first 2 days. Hopefully the rental company will come get at the resort after day 2 to not pay for it all week and also only have to pay 2 days of resort parking fees. does anyone know this by chance? and will figure in an additional $125 for uber to the airport.

Actually..... I used Alamo once as well. Flew in and dropped the car off at the Dolphin because they have an Alamo, so it was easy to utilize. After I dropped the car off there, I just walked to Hollywood Studios and was able to be car free easily.

They will not come and pick up the rental. You'll have to find a place where you can return it.

When we fly Alligient I rent a car from National and drop it at WDW Car Care and they will drop you off wherever you want to go on property. They will pick you up to get your rental at the end of your trip also. I find it pretty easy to deal with.

We decided to do Allegiant. It's MUCH cheaper for our party of 7, and it's a direct flight. If we fly to MCO, we'll have to connect somewhere, and that really doesn't sound like fun with small children. We're going to do a one day rental minivan (luckily I get an awesome company discount) and drop it off at the Disney Car Care Center. Then for our return flight, we'll rent a car from the Car Care Center and return it at the airport.

You are a good sister, LOL
I travel with a friend who often uses Allegiant. I will not, period. So when we do our yearly trip together we fly legacy. No cost is worth the headache that come with Allegiant. I don't play with my vacation time like that. It's not the car rental that is an issue, it's reaching FL with confidence, and home again.

No real guessing is needed. Orlando area taxi sites can give you estimates, and look at the uber and lyft apps for estimates (check at the time of day you’d be using them). And check the rental car agencies at or near Sanford, pricing it out to return where you want to return the car.

Hopefully the rental company will come get at the resort

I don’t know if there are any rental agencies that pick the car up.

Alamo and National have places to drop off and rent from onsite. Car care center (one of them) does have a shuttle, but there are certain hours. You can find it on the website; I usually google “Alamo Wdw car care center.” The Swan and Dolphin are dropoffs for those sake agencies. Price it out.

You have to look at the cost for your specific trip. There are other agencies around the area, but then you have to figure out how to get to and from there

Price it before making a final decision.

I once eliminated all savings and ease from a disneyland trip by assuming transportation options and costs would between the same at a different airport.
