Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

You will have an envelope hanging on your door knob or slipped underneath your room door when you return to your resort the day BEFORE your flight home. It will outline what you need to do with your luggage & what time you need to be at the airport. Its usually anywhere between 2-4 hours prior to your flight. It will also tell you what time the bus will be at the resort to take you to the airport. Its a very convenient process, I was amazed at how easy it was! You just take your luggage to the airline counter at your resort, they load it on a cart & you don't see it again until you arrive home. You wait outside your resort for the bus. The bus driver will have a list of names of who they take...each driver has a separate list so you will know which bus to get onto. Hope this helps!

But...not everyone is entitled to check their bags at the resort and get boarding passes issued. Only those flying out on participating airlines can do this. This is the RAC system....it is NOT part of DME. They are completely different entities.
Your pickup time will be 3 hrs before your flight departure if flying domestically...give or take 15 mins in either direction, depending on which resort you are at.
The other thing to keep in mind is that the time stated is the time the bus will leave the resort, it is not the time you should arrive at the bus stop. Plan on being at the bus stop at least 15 mins before the stated time.

I know I have seen this answer before but it didn't pertain to me then. Now when I need it, I cannot find it! :confused3

We are scheduled to arrive at MCO at 8:40pm. How late will they deliver our bag from ME? It will only have some extras in it that we won't really need the first night. The rest of our things will be in our carry-ons. I have seen that it can be 3 hours? before you get your ME bags but if it's going to be late, we would prefer to get it in the morning.
Do I just tell them when we check in to hold our bag till morning?

Thanks- I know you guys have all the answers!!! :worship:

This has probably already been asked a million times but...

Can you use ME if you do a split stay?

DME stops transferring checked bags at 10pm, and starts again around 6 or 7 the next morning. If you arrive ontime at 8:40, you an expect to be at your resort around 10ish..your bags could arrive anytime up to 3 hrs after resort checkin. If you don't want to wait up for your bags (and who does!!), just let them know that at checkin. Then, I would stop by luggage assistence/bell services and let them know your wishes as well. When you get to your room, just hang out the 'privacy please' hanger outside the door. There will most likely be a message on your phone the next morning telling you that your bags have arrived.

I do it all the time. The easiest way to do it is to wait until you check into your last resort. When you check in there, make arrangements for DME when you are checking in.

Thank you! We're considering a future trip with WDW, Universal, and then WDW. My DH won't consider anything unless we can use ME! It's one of the major selling points of Disney for him.

No matter how many times you write it someone will still be confused! That's me!:thumbsup2

My question - we're flying SWA home (staying at Saratoga) , so I know we can't utilize the Resort checkin for our luggage, so can we store our luggage some where if we have a later flight and still want to go to the parks earlier in the day? (and using ME to get to the Airport?)

Thanks for your help!

Absolutely yes. You can hand your bags over to Bell Services in the morning and then head off for some last day fun. Then, be sure you are back at SSR in plenty of time to get your bags and head to the DME bus stop. The time you are given is the time the bus is due to leave the resort...NOT the time you should head over to the bus stop!! Plan on it taking up to 15 or so mins to get your bags from Bell Services. It will most likely take less time but it's better to err on the side of leaving too much time.
Then, be out at the DME bus stop about 15 mins before the time you were given.

Perhaps some of you ME veterans can help. We are going to WDW in late May, 2010. We are waiting to hear from Disney about ROFR regarding an add-on contract that has banked 2008 points. If we get the contract, it will be mid-to-late April before we are in the system and can use those points. We will add two days to our trip at whatever DVC resort is available using those expiring 2008 points (Aug UY). Not knowing when our departure date will be, we cannot book a flight. How can I get ME luggage tags if I will not know my flight information until 4 weeks or less prior to our vacation stay? What is the minimum length of time ME needs to be able to send you your tags? TIA

I've gotten Magical Express packets with as little as a week's notice (one extreme situation, one where they kept using a Kentucky ZIP code with my name and address, go figure :rolleyes1).

Even if you don't get your packet, you can still use Magical Express on arrival and you can still skip baggage claim and allow DME to pull your luggage behind the scenes and get it to your resort. Trust us :teeth: You just need to have that reservation.

You'll proceed to the Welcome Center; if you got your packet and attached the yellow luggage tags and have your voucher booklet (i.e. don't pack it in your checked luggage!) most likely at the podium at the entrance to the line your voucher will be scanned and you'll be sent right off to your bus line. If you didn't get your packet, you'll probably have to go to the counter to check in. They'll ask to see your claim checks and they'll note the numbers. They may show you a booklet with pictures fo luggage, so you can point out which yours best resembles. Then they'll scan your voucher and send you off to the bus line.

In either case, you can expect your luggage up to three/four (different numbers reported by different people) hours after you check into your resort and your room is ready. You DON'T have to be in your room!

DME people tell us that they need at least 10 days to process the info packet and get that packet out to you. I would say a better guesstimate is about 2 weeks.

My wife, baby and myself are using MCO this coming Thursday March 11th and I just realized that we don't have enough tags for all the stuff we're bringing.
We have three ME tags, that will go on the three bags for us.
Then we have a stroller bag, a car seat bag and an empty extra bag.

Should I call ME and see about getting extra tags overnighted, or should we just go to the Welcome Desk with our luggage tags and they'll pull the non-tagged luggage for us?

Thanks!

Why not do both??!!:cheer2:

Seriously. Call DME directly at 866-599-0951 and ask if you can get extra tags sent to you ASAP. If they say yes, great! And if they don't arrive in time, no sweat ... when you arrive at the DME counter at MCO just tell them you have some untagged luggage you want delivered, etc.

Best of both worlds!

how many luggage tags does each person get?

But if you need more, you can call after you get your tags and they will send as many as you need. I always call and get two more. We check 4 bags for me and the Hubby.

So, I never received our DME packet, which stresses me because now I have extra stuff to do/worry about!:headache: Also, I noticed on some information that it has our flight number, but not the flight arrival/departure time. I'm assuming I need to call and let them know the times...

DME doesn't really have to know when you are arriving or at what time. They need only the day of arrival. As long as they have you in their system, you're good to go. But, call them just to make sure they have you in the system.
I always recommend that everyone call DME to make sure they are in the system if they haven't received their packet 2-3 weeks before travel. But that is assuming the reservation was booked more than a month out.....they need at least 10 days to process the info and get it to you.

This happened to me last May and it ended being no big deal! I promise! We just checked our bags at our home airport. When we got to MCO, my DH went to the counter with our luggage claim tags (and we had 4 adults and 3 children!). They gave us our bus documents and our bags were delivered a few hours later. The only stressful part was that a few of the luggage claim tags were hard to read and my DH wasn't 100% sure that they got the claim numbers correct! Luckily they figured it all out and we had no problems. I did call DME to ask what to do (I didn't know about disboards back then - so naive!).
