Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right thread...

My cousin and I are going down in December. She's a former CM and her friend, a current CM, booked the room for us so we'd have the CM discount (woot!) My cousin is arriving at MCO a little over an hour ahead of me, so she was going to take ME to our resort (ASMo) and check in. She's the first person listed on the reservation, so all the ME info such as luggage tags and the "ticket" to get on the bus will all be mailed to her. I know they have a desk down where you board the buses...so here's my question. Can I go to the desk and they'll get me squared away for boarding? Also, to throw a wrench in the plans, my name is misspelled on the reservation (they have my last name beginning with a P instead of a T.) Will that pose any problems??

Oh...and I tried calling ME to add my flight info, but they won't talk to me since I didn't make the reservation...even though I had the reservation number :(

I reeeallly hate to sound slow, but I'm trying to just make sure I get this. We fly out of LGA on Aug 27th at noon. I fly back from MCO on Aug 31 at 8pm.

So....we have signed up for DME and I got my little packet. I recieved my yellow luggage tags but they don't have flight times on them. Will the barcode tell the airline what they need to know? I'm so confused and afraid they'll go on the wrong plane or something! So do I just hand them to the gentlemen at curbside? I plan on checking in and printing my boarding pass the night before so I think I can just go to the gate. Do I have this part right?:confused3

Now, when I get to MCO around 3:00, I'll just go find the DME desk and give them our little packet with the barcodes? I'm assuming they will then show us to our bus and off we go....I thought the arrival time of 4 - 4:30 would be good since check in isn't even til 3 - is this a mistake?

When we check out it will be at 11 (I think that this is check out time for AKL) and I am on Delta, which participates in the luggage program. So do I find the desk when I check out, give them our luggage, get our boarding passes and then go on our way to explore the parks for the rest of the day? I understand that I should get a packet the night before telling us when to catch our bus to the airport. I'm assuming it will be around 5 pm which would be great if I can just leave my luggage at the desk at check out because then I can not worry about them and go have fun. Do I have all of this right?

The yellow DME tag has NOTHING to do with the airline. It's not an airline tag. It's ignored by the airline (as it should be!). The tag is only paid attention to AFTER you land at orlando and the luggage is being unloaded from the airplane. It's after that point, AFTER you land in Orlando, that the DME tag comes into use. It lets Disney and airport workers know to pull that bag from the luggage stream and not let it go to baggage claim, but instead to send it to Disney's luggage sorting facility on the grounds of the airport. From there, it's loaded onto Disney delivery trucks and taken to the resorts. The barcode on the DME tag tells DISNEY how to route your luggage.

When you go to your home airport and check your bags with your airline, they will put on the usual airline bag tag they always do, the one with the 3-letter airport code on it. Remember, the DME tag is ignored by the airline, it has NO meaning to them. It's just as if you tied a bunch of yellow yarn to the handle to make it stick out for you later ... kinda like the DME tag, the airline would pay no attention to that bunch of yarn you tied on.

Well, truth is you can check-in at any time, you don't have to wait 'til 3; if your room is ready early, they'll let you in early.

Your assigned bus time will be about 3 hours before flight departure. If you are going to use Resort Airline Check-in, you'll do it, as you say, before you leave the resort to go to a park for the early afternoon. If you're going to have carry-ons for the flight home, you can have those stored by Bell Services, and you'll go to get them back before you wait for the DME bus back to the airport.

Thank you Cleverocks!! Sometimes it really helps to have things broken down like that! This Disney stuff is pretty new to me and I think this DME program is awesome! Especially that its complimentary :goodvibes

I wanted to get a 6am flight (I always do this when I go anywhere) but thought it would be a waste if I can't check in til late. A lot of places I've stayed at just refuse to let you check in early, you know? Oh well - I'm not paying $100 to change it now, lol! My bf is thrilled to not have to board til 12pm so I guess he wins this one!:)

When I first booked my reservation back in January, it was a room-only reservation at the Contemporary. Then, in May, I received a PIN code offer, and decided to go with the POLY w/dining. So, I now have a package.

When I changed it to a package in May, at the same time, I also let them know that my guests and I would be flying in to MCO from JFK, and gave them my flight info. Two weeks ago, they mailed my package info with my vouchers displaying all of the new information correctly, but still received no DME tags.

I called up Disney. After the CM investigated with DME on the phone, she found out that DME for some unknown reason mixed up the mailing address - even though the address on the reservation was clearly the correct one. She had it corrected and resent to me. The tags arrived yesterday. But... it has the wrong info on it. It has my name, and the additional tags have my guests names on it too. But, has my original reservation info on it... Saying Contemporary w/ the room-only reservation number on it. But above the room-only reservation number is also my current package reservation number.

Should I not even use them?? I don't want our bags to get mixed up and sent to the contemporary. Or since my new package reservation number is on it too, should I just scratch out where it says "Contemporary" & the old reservation number? The DME luggage vouchers also say Contemporary on it.

Uggggh... help??

If you have enough time before your trip, you can ask them to mail you new tags. If not, don't worry about it. Simply use a pen to make a correction to the resort name. Poly and Contemporary are both in the same delivery zone, so other information on the tag will still apply. All the luggage handlers are going to look at is the color/code in the Mickey head (which tells them Magic Kingdom area). Bell Services at the resort will look for your name and confirmation number.

Just don't want to get lost on the previous page :goodvibes Can anyone help with this?

Yes you can, and no it won't - but you can have your cousin call and try to correct the spelling if you want. Or you can call. Try the 'sample' spelling - you know - if your name is Parrot and they have it as Tarrot, say, "P as in pig" or some other easily-understood 'p' word.

I know from experience, P, T, and other letters sound alike - especially on the phone :teeth:

Thanks. I usually spell it out with words, but I wasn't the one making the reservation this time. Good to know I'll be all set to go! Thanks again!

I received four DME vouchers for our family, which is the right number, but for some reason instead of my husband's name on one voucher and mine on the other, they have my name on two voucher (and the correct kids names on the others). Will this matter when we check in for a bus, or will they just scan the four tags and not pay attention to the actual names?

I don't think it matters.. They never look at the names.

I agree that it probably doesn't matter for the DME booklet. However, if it's wrong there, it might be wrong on your main reservation. And it will matter with that.

I suggust you log onto http://www.mydisneyreservation.com with your confirmation number, or call Disney, and make sure the names are correct on your reservation. If you get it fixed ahead of time, it could save you some time at check-in.

Thanks for the responses. I did confirm that the names on the actual hotel reservation are correct, so hopefully we'll be ok.

I wonder if Disney perposely sends thier tickets/ luggage tags etc and other goodies/ confirmations...little by little just to build one's anticipation!
We got our Magical Express vouchers and luggage tages in the mail yesterday. YAY. the count down is officially 35 more days until touch down in Florida. So excited. I wonder what else we will be getting in the mail....hopefully soon. I can't wait!!!!!!:yay::cheer2:

Not intentional. DME and Disney reservations are two distinct operations. They don't usually end up coming at the same time. DME is usually 4 weeks prior to travel.

My family and I are booked on the Disney Dream in 2011. I've got the DME included now but saw some reasonable alternatives (I could save almost $150 for the family of 5). If I choose a DME alternative, will my bags still be brought to my cabin?

You don't have Disney's Magical Express booked. DME brings people only between the airport and their Disney resort ... it has nothing to do with Disney Cruise Line. You booked a DCL transfer, which you paid for ... DME is free.

I have no idea how anything works with DCL and luggage, I just know that DME has nada to do with DCL ... they both have Mears as a subcontractor and they sometimes interchange buses, but otherwise the services themselves are unrelated.

I booked through travelocity but followed the link to book my DME reservation. This was about 3 weeks ago. We leave for Disney 3 weeks from now. Should I already have my tags? Should I call ME and check on things? Thanks! :confused3

We used the magical express and it was great. All we had to do was bring our carryons on the bus and our luggage was put in our room a few hours later. We arrived in the early evening, went to eat, and when we got back to our room, the luggage was there waiting for us.

I just upgraded from Pop to CR and we arrive this Thursday. The agent told my TA that I should use my Pop yellow tags and just cross out Pop and write CR that once they get scanned, they will see the correct location in their system.
Is this correct?

Also, should I change the AK area symbol to MK symbol?
