Our kids (and us!) have been blessed to vacation at disney world several times, and after this October trip we are thinking of trying somewhere new to change things up during spring break and let them experience other places. Many of our friends recommend Hilton Head and we are highly considering it.

So if you've been to Hilton Head, do you recommend it for families with younger kids?
Even in the spring when it probably won't be warm enough to swim in the ocean?

If so, then do you recommend disney resort at hilton head?

We can rent points for not that much more then getting a beach house and are very attracted to the themed events they have for kids, and love that we'd still be immersed in disney atmosphere.

We went for Easter weekend and it definitely wasn't beach weather but we were able to get in the pool. They had Easter brunch at the beach house. We enjoyed riding bikes around the resort. It is very relaxing and quiet. They had campfire songs and s'mores. We took a dolphin watching tour and tried fishing.

We were there during an Easter break that was in late April, and it was warm enough to swim in the ocean. Our children are a little older and they enjoyed the nature talks, walks, crafts, kayaking (we had dolphins come up to the service next to us), and the Family Bingo was a lot of fun. You can rent bikes and ride all over. I do believe that the pool at the resort as well as the one at the Beach House is heated. You'll have a great time.

Next time we go, we plan on renting fishing poles and fishing off the dock. And trying a few more restaurants.

October is supposed to be the BEST time to go to HHI, in terms of weather and low crowds, according to CMs I've talked to there. And although I don't have young children, I would expect that the wide variety of resort activities would make it desirable. And yes, even in the off-season the activities are offered.

Sssshhhhh, don't let the secret out. Hilton Head is awesome. Oh, and if the beach wasn't there it would still be just as awesome. This is mostly due to the great staff at the resort and the nature activities they offer all year for adults and kids. Don't miss the Pickney Island outing, marsh outing, bird outing. Make sure to take your camera. Great place for eating out as well (in no particular order): Sea Shack, One Hot Mammas, Steamers,Redfish and Cornbread, pizza place by Piggly Wiggly are all good.

The only disappointment I had was the golf instruction outing did not have enough signup in October. Shocking in HHI I know.

Say Hi to Mike the pool guy for us.

Can't wait to try it out in sept.

Thanks for mentioning Redfish. We try to get to a new (to us) restaraunt on each HHI trip, and Redfish was one we were considering.

My parents were DVC owners for years, and always vacationed with them in Orlando on their points.

However, as a lark we decided to visit HHI on cash (using their DVC discount) and in one 3 day weekend we were HOOKED! Our kids were 4 and 6 at the time. This trip was enough to make my husband decide that we wanted to be DVC owners ourselves (so we could go DVC anywhere, anytime without using my parents points!)

So - after we bought in and realized the next summer that it was very hard to get an August ressie without booking priority, we bought a couple resale contracts at HHI! So, we have vacationed there for a long weekend every August since buying in. Our kids are now 9 and 11.

Both of our kids learned how to ride bikes on those winding paths. We hvae enjoyed the hammocks, playing horseshoes - we have NEVER missed a campfire, and they have enjoyed B'Lou (the resident entertainer) and his stories and magic tricks. My son and husband have played pool in the parlor. They have walked in the marsh with the naturalist, and have made Mickey tie dies, pin boards, fleece pillows and just about every other craft imaginable. We've put them in the weekly "kids night out" on Saturday night so we could have date night.

We went to Hilton Head last weekend and we were planning on staying for 2 nights at the South Beach Inn (next to the Salty Dog Cafe) and not staying at DVC HHI at all. A couple of weeks beforehand I said "what the heck" and cancelled one of our nights at South Beach and picked up one night at HHI. I figured one night was better than no nights. The minute we pulled in and started walking on the paths, under those beautiful trees draped with Spanish Moss, our kids looked at me and said "thank you so much Mom for bringing us here... we're home." I just smiled - that's what it is all about.

I could go on. It's a magical place, unlike anywhere you have probably been. You could call the front desk and ask them to email you the activities sheet so you can get an idea of everything they have planned for their guests. It's as activity-filled or as relaxing a vacation as you want it to be. It is also two resorts in one, with a beautiful wooded marsh retreat, and a bright and cheery beach house with a "H" pool.

Can't say enough great things. Did I mention we will be going back in 3 weeks for Labor Day. I gave the kids the choice between going back to HHI (and we were just there last weekend) or staying in a beachfront room on Jekyll Island. Guess where they chose.

Go, and see it for yourself.

HHI is the BEST resort to us - love the pool - love the rooms and September and October are great times to visit! We have a small contract there and it will NEVER be sold! Love it!

Mike may be the best thing about Disney HHI. He is just a great guy.

We live about 45 minutes from HHI and look for reasons to drive over. It's just a great place to be.

We tried to get in for two summer and couldn't - so we bought points there!

WE LOVE HHI! We saw it as a great alternative to WDW (DW was going in to WDW overload!) And now... we both wish we owned more points at HHI!

The location is fantastic, the staff is fantastic, the rooms are fantastic, the beach is fantastic, and any amount of time there is... FANTASTIC!

We haven't visited Vero Beach yet, but I hope we like it as much... err... no... I hope we hate it - because DW won't let us buy any more points!! HAHA :rotfl2:

Thank you all! To clarify- we would be going to HHI late March (our October trip this year is at WDW- OKW). It sounds like a magical place that can't be missed, even if the kids can't jump in the ocean (too cold still).

You are going to love HHI!! Went over Easter last year beg. of April and we did have a couple of warm beach days and a few cooler days. Even if you don't go to the beach, there is still a lot to do. The resort is magical, Harbour Town is fun and everyone enjoyed dinner at the Salty Dog. My kids loved it there so much we are stoppig there on way down to WDW this year. My kids were 2, 3, 12, & 13 when we went.
