Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

(Cross-posted with the Polynesian thread) Long story short but we’ve ended up with one night at the Polynesian in the middle of our Grand Floridian stay. I know that bell services will move our bags for us but do you think it would be possible for us to wheel them along the walkway between the two resorts ourselves? When we’ve done a split stay in the past it’s often been quite late when the bags have arrived and so I’d like to leave them with bell services at the new resort so that they’re available when we first have access to the new room.
If you don't need everything for the one night and next day I wonder if GF bell services would hold your extra bags for you the night?

That could be an idea - maybe we’ll ask when we first check in and then figure out what the best plan is.

Yes, I think you could do that. I just returned from a stay at the GF last week and I walked the path from the GF to Poly twice. The path was clear and an easy walk. As a side note - I did a split GF/Poly stay a couple of years ago and had Bell Services transport my bags. I ended up wishing we'd just brought them over ourselves as our Poly room was ready early (nice!) and before our bags arrived from the GF.
Yes, that was our logic - if the room’s ready early it would be great to have them.

I have done that in August with 90+ temps. I felt it was worth it to have my stuff !

I have also walked mine from, bwi to bc, S&D to bwi, CBR to RR. I really don’t like waiting for my stuff lol. 😅

For my mil in December I walked her stuff while she took boat and met her there, Then I also took an Uber with her and her bags another time. Depends on group size but 1 can Uber the bags and other mono over if that helps. I used to drag 3 bags to airline check in way back when my kids in grade school. Why? It was easier to finagle 3 bags vs listening to them complain it’s going home day, 😂

That gives me more confidence - thank you!

Does anyone know if they still let you order food to go from GFC? I’ve seen reports it has been offered but not sure how old those are. I would like to try a few options there during our stay but don’t really want to schedule many adrs.
We might do room service one night, but that’s too pricey for every day and some of the options aren’t available for room service.
Not sure why Kona and Steakhouse 71 gas mobile order take out and GFC doesn’t?

Staying in a resort studio next week, Someone posted on Facebook that the walls were like a “Motel 6” and they heard everything from the rooms above and next to them even to the point where they could identify the shows that were on their TV. I know Facebook groups tend to have a little drama. Has anyone been there recently and had any issues?

Hope not. I have the same booked

I’ve had noisy (inconsiderate?) neighbors everywhere. I don’t think it’s resort specific (in my opinion). We had some particularly noisy neighbors in Conch Key one time, but I blamed them more than the building. Other GF stays have been pretty quiet. Can’t comment on the villas, only hotel side (which included some stays in BPK pre conversion).

FWIW, we stayed in Big Pine Key in 2021 pre-reno. We never heard our neighbors, even the ones with a baby. We know they had a baby because they left dirty diapers outside their door, back when trash wasn’t being taken every day 😝. I guess it depends mostly upon your neighbors, but we have never noticed the walls at any of the GF buildings to be thin. In fact it’s usually very quiet. YMMV!

Enjoy your trip!

At the Grand Floridian this weekend and wondering if anyone knows why the third floor of the main building has some rooms blocked off with black curtains?

Maybe we got lucky but stayed there 8 nights a few weeks ago and heard our neighbors one time. Wasn't an issue at all.

During our stay in August we had neighbors on each side… the only time I heard our one neighbor (the room behind our bed area) was when they opened the sliding glass door to go outside. The other neighbor, well… I still to this day have no idea what the hell they were doing, but around 11:30 pm they decided to microwave something…. after the - oh, I don’t know… 30th time they opened and shut the microwave door and reset the cook time, I was ready to break down the door between our rooms!!!!!!!!!!!! No lie, this went on for about a half hour!!!!!!!! 😡 Luckily, that was the only time I heard them.

Hi all!
I've been looking at the Grand Floridian Spa and was wondering if anyone has made a reservation and their thoughts! Looking to get my nails done and was looking to see about the experience and whether it was worth the price!

Thanks!

What’s the fastest way to get to MK from GF if we want to arrive 30 minutes before ETPE?

Walking? Monorail?

I haven't been since the pandemic shutdown, but the one thing I didn't like about the manicure experience is they don't let you use your own polish (which I found strange), and I hated the polish they used and the color choices. Not sure if that's still the situation.

I've seen plenty of this mentioned on the DVC boards as well. I stayed in BPK numerous times before the renovation (and other GF outer buildings) and never had any issues with noise. I can't imagine WDW made the soundproofing worse with the refurb. People must be getting inconsiderate guests in the adjoining room. That door is usually the problem. The worst noise I ever had was actually 2016 at Poly with a connecting room. It sounded like the other guests were in my room with me. Never had any other issues at Poly so I think it's very YMMV.

Going to MK for Early Entry - I always take the walking path because I enjoy the stroll. The rest of my group always takes the monorail. They get there faster 99% of the time, but I'm close behind. They enjoy waving to me as they zip by on the monorail. I have only beat them once or twice, by a minute or two.

Leaving MK after fireworks or at closing time - I always take the walking path. The rest of my group takes the boat or monorail. I beat them back to the GF every time. By 20 min or more.

Anyone care to share tips for a RELAXING stay that is centered around GF and surrounding areas? Or your favorite things to do on a resort only stay?

We were at GFV this last spring with our two littles and it was a seriously stressful experience (no fault of the resort’s, just our kids being in tough phases). But we (perhaps stupidly 😂) just booked again for May 2023. We will definitely be doing the parks but we want to simplify this time around. We want to minimize the running around and mostly stick to dining and parks we can access easily from GF.

I’d love to hear about any of your favorites that might fit into this “simple” Disney trip.

What is the extent of the renovations? We booked a trip for Christmas but are worried we won’t be able to enjoy the lobby if it’s under construction.

Unfortunately, Disney has not given a timeframe to date. The construction has only reached the 2nd building on property. BPK has been completed and they are currently working on Boca Chica. I’d assume it will be the last building to be renovated, but no one knows for sure at this time. I will update the thread if and when something is posted!!
