The Disney website gave me quote of $1703 for 8 nights in September. Hmm... Please tell me why I should stay there. I know everyone raves about it in previously read posts. Does everyone else still think that this is the best hotel to stay at? Why?

Thanks!!!:confused3

I prefer both the DLH and PP over the Grand ~ the Grand has a lovely lobby *which anyone can enjoy - but not for too long cause that'd be rude* our room was dark and seemed small ~ the decor wasn't really my thing. The price has a lot to do with it as well, I'd rather stay somewhere else *off site* and stay longer, do more fun stuff.

that seems kind inexpensive to me! lol being that it's the GCH!!

i prefer the hojo , can't beat those prices! :)

Worth it for us, love it, bought the DVC there so we can always stay there.

That breaks out to about $212 per night which for the Grand is a steal. If you can afford it then go for it. It's our fav hotel of the three on property. I like the warm cozy feel the hotel has and it is a nice respite from a day at the parks.

It is more expensive than most other places around. Still have not been able to understand why locals who are close stay at a hotel when they could just drive home and come back the next day or whenever. Use to drive from Culver City daily:car:

We stayed there for our 15th anniversary, and we live about 15 minutes away. :woohoo: It was nice to be able to walk to where we were staying, not have to worry about freeways or traffic. There is just something about rolling out of bed, going down an elevator and walking directly into DCA. Amazing!! That was especially helpful since I was 8.5 months pregnant with our second. It was great for mid-day breaks as well. Of course, with the price, it won't happen again for another 15 years. :sad2:

Mamaso - that is a great rate, and if it's affordable to you I don't think you would regret it.

Without giving too much away (writing a trip report) I think the Grand is worth every penny! We bought DVC and after staying in the villas, I will try my hardest not to ever stay anywhere else when at Disneyland!

We live 20 minutes away and have stayed at the Hotel a few times. That way we don't get caught up in doing chores, cleaning, fixing things, putting away stuff in the garage, washing the car. When we are at the Hotel, we just chill and thats what's great about it. Sit by the pool, go to the parks, what-ever - its relax time then. We go for a few days to just get away.

I agree $1703 is a decent price for GCH for 8 nights. This is a hotel that often goes for $380-$450 per night. Location can't be beat.:thumbsup2

WOW! I would be jumping up & down in excitement for getting that price!! We hope to stay there for our next trip & it would be awesome to get $212/night!

Because it ends up being a CHEAP vacation! No airfare, no gas money, can pack food from home and bring it, etc. We do it once a year for 3 nights (at the Grand). Since we're not spending money on other things, we splurge on Club Level! Plus, it's SO different staying onsite for a few days than driving back and forth. You get immersed.

For the same reason, I can't understand why people come all the way down here (from far) and stay at HoJo's. I mean, I know WHY they do it, but I wouldn't.

I'll say!! That's $38 cheaper per night than what I will be getting Paradise Pier for! I would jump all over that!

I guess it is a budget issue. We have gotten spoiled so we work x tra jobs to be able to play the way we want.

Maybe I should have clarified. We do it because it's a good way to fit in an EXTRA vacation. ;) While for many, DL is their "big" vacation, for us it doesn't have to be, because we live so close we don't have the expense of getting there. It allows us to take a big vacation elsewhere, but still get to enjoy the GCH yearly (because, let's face it, it's an awesome hotel, and we can't get enough of it!).

I used to stay at cheap hotels during Disney trips for the same reason I stay in cheap hotels in Vegas. I'm not there for the hotel room. The hotel room's where I pass out for the night, shower, and change clothes. If it's clean, free of pests, fairly quiet, and keeps the elements at bay, that's all I need.

So did we..and when we're on the road we still do (Microtel is a great stopover hotel at a nice price). Now though, I don't know how to really explain it, but the Grand is part of the experience, just as much as the parks. We're going to Vegas in Oct (used to live there) and I thought about staying at one of favorite locals places (Arizona Charlie's) but we're going to see some shows and I don't want the driving hassle and such, so have decided to stay on the strip. We still stay in cheap places for the most part, but sometimes, the little splurge is worth it.

I really enjoyed when we stayed at the Grand. It definitely was not about the room itself, because lets face it, the rooms are rather small and nothing too special about them. You are truly paying for the experience of the ENTIRE hotel, not just the room and I really enjoyed it and would do it again in a heart beat. I go to the Grand every time we visit the DLR, which is about once a month. We love the lobby and the hotel bar, but nothing compares to being a guest.

Having said that, I would not want pay what it usually costs to stay there for an entire week, but the rate you got is AWESOME. I would book and not think twice about it. :thumbsup2

I think you hit the nail on the head! :thumbsup2 For some of us, the hotel we stay at has become part of the experience/part of the vacation itself. It's no longer just a place to sleep and shower.
