Quick question...we are here now but I am wondering about the bed in our cabin. I don't want to sound like a complainer, but the mattress is hard. Really hard. Are all of the mattresses like this? If so, I will suck it up (I know it's Disney. Makes it easier to suck it up). Can't wait to start our first full day! Starting it with Kona for breakfast :-)

Got here late last night, and yes they are "firm". Had a great day, just wish it would stop raining....

Yummy, Kona sounds great! I read on a TR from POR where someone had a hard mattress and POR had a foam mattress pad that helped. Maybe FWC have those too. If enough people mention it, maybe they will remedy it.

No kidding!! The rain can seriously stop. It's actually cold. Lol. We have been so cold in the evenings

Does anyone know the process of renting a golf cart from Disney? I already booked my MYW package 2 months ago and after seeing all the posts on here about internal transportaion, we have now decided to rent a golf cart. Is that done through the main disney number or do I need to call somewhere else?

TIA,

Tom

Got back from the Fort yesterday. Just a few things:

Stayed in the cabins with 2 adults and 4 kids (15, 10, 8/9, 6). The kids took the bedroom and we stayed on the murphy bed.

-The grounds are beautiful and I loved the quiet and nature. However, every morning the lids to the trash cans were flipped off and trash was scattered all over the roads from Racoons. You would think Disney would put locks on the cans so they couldn't do that. Kind of made me wrinkle my nose to have to walk past that every morning.

-I did not expect 5 star, but the cabins could really use some refurbishment. Little things like holes in the paneling, nasty caulk, crooked skirting on the trailors (because really they are just trailors), crooked cabinet doors etc... The cabin were were in was just really run down.

-Housekeeping isn't the best. There were cobwebs everywhere, even left over streamers taped to the rafters. One of the glasses in our cabin was noticeably cracked when we got there and should never have been put back in the cupboard.

-Drink refill stations. Seriously there are 2 on the whole property (that we found despite being told there was one in every store). One is at Pioneer Hall so you have to go into the restaurant while people are dining to refill your cup. Not to mention this was clear at the other end of the resort. NOT a short bus ride or even a short golf cart ride. The other spot was at the Meadow pool snack bar.. which closes at 5pm!! Disney is really raking in the cash with tricking people into thinking it's even remotely easy to get your free refills at some resorts.

-We were consistently late to most reservations because the transportation was so spotty. Allow AT LEAST an hour and a half to get where you are going. We were an hour and a half late to 1900 park fare one night (despite leaving an hour and a half early) because lightening shut the boat we were on down so we were stranded at the wilderness lodge until a lightening proof boat came.. which we were told would take us to the contempo where were were hopping the monorail, but would only take us to MK.. and the GF is the last stop from there.

-They really should have two bathrooms and a washer and dryer in at least some cabins. Cabins are one of the few places on property that 6 people can stay in.. really, 2 bathrooms please even if one is just a half bath.

- The hot water heater is just barely sufficient, but reheats SUPER fast.

-I would recommend a golf cart to everyone. Busses run consistently, but you stop at every stop on the route. Not only that, but if you're going to a pool you need to have shirt and shoes on to ride the bus. Also, if you get a golf cart make sure to keep a dry towel on you or tucked in your cart to wipe the seats off if it rains.

-If you use Magical Express and they tell you to call the day before you leave to schedule complimentary luggage pick up... DON'T let them schedule it for 20 minutes before you leave. We had pick up scheduled for 10:30am and were to be on the bus at 10:50am. At 10:55am they STILL hadn't picked us up. We called the front desk to inquire about it and they transfered the call to the wrong place twice so we had to call bell services ourselves who just said "We'll radio him". Well we missed the bus to the airport, they couldn't check our bags for us because the system locks them out as soon as the bus leaves. First they told us they would get us a taxi and we could check our bags at the curb, then they told us we would get on the next ME bus to show up. That driver had no knowledge about this so we had to wait even longer for the to straighten that mess out. We finally got to the airport and by the time we got to our gate we had 20 minutes until our flight boarded. (and completely not Disney's fault, but my 10 year old daughter was puking in a bag throughout all of this fiasco)

- Also, the fact that the Fort does not have a quick service restaurant SUCKS. We left not using around 3 credits because we just didn't want to hop a boat over to wilderness lodge.

If you go to the Disney site and search Golf Cart Rental, a phone number you can call to make reservation will come up.

Anyone know where I can buy armadillo party lights? Bought a set at the meadow trading post 25 years ago and they need to be replaced. Can't find anywhere on EBay, Amazon, Camping World, online etc. Thank you for any info...:(

Thank you -- I agree on the add a 1/2 bath. The last time we stayed there (14 years ago) we had a rule, the boys went in the golf cart and found the "comfort statation" that was closest and that was the designated get ready area for us. I'm sorry to hear that the cabins are looking so shabby, I'm beginning to rethink staying there and extending at the Grand Floridian.

Anyone have photos of the Halloween merchandise being sold at the FW trading post??? They always have such nice things.

We were very excited to stay in the Cabins. Am I completely overjoyed with our experience here....no. The beds are HARD. Really hard. Everything is wet. There has been so much rain that nothing dries. We had towels hanging over the shower for 2 days and they still didn't dry. When we crawled into our hard beds (oops, I think I mentioned that) they felt really damp. And other things, but I will just leave it at that.

Was it nice to have extra space....yes. That's about it.

If you can afford the whole stay at GF, I would do it in a heartbeat.

It was okay staying here, but on to new resort next time.

After reading this it makes me worry about staying here next year as it isn't a cheap holiday should I swap to ssr or okw or somewhere else we are a family of 6. Anyone else stayed here recently.

Lots of people have had some great reviews lately on FW and the cabins.... Visit the "camping at disney" section for more:)
It is a great fun place and very relaxing....we were there a few weeks ago, but not in a cabin.

It isn't cheap and that was our issue. We paid a premium to stay on Disney property and didn't feel like we got what we paid for. Had we had the same accommodations off property we wouldn't have had a problem with anything, but we just feel Disney didn't live up to their standards here.

Pro's:
Quiet
Nature
Space
Easy to take a day off and actually relax
Lots of things to do at the resort

Con's:
Takes forever to get anywhere
A lot of activities are canceled due to weather
Cabin quality/cleanliness is low
No quick service (other than certain carry out items at Trails End that they don't really tell you about- a list with your welcome packet would be nice)
Refill stations for mugs are way too far away from cabins
Only 1 bathroom in cabin
No w/d in cabins meaning you have to lug your laundry pretty far

Got back yesterday from a week at the cabins. We had a great time. No issues with the cleanliness of the cabins and we enjoyed the quiet. We feel that you do need a golf cart.
We drove everywhere and it was great parking the car right outside your door. We would consider staying there again, but it is going to be a few years before we go back and we did really want to stay at the Poly but did not due to construction.

What loop were you in out of curiosity?
