I had read about a tour at MK, in which the participants must search for Capt. Hook's hook....has anyone done this? Is it a 'thumbs UP' or 'thumbs DOWN'?? How much p/p, how long, etc......HELP!!

Hi. Yes, we did it back in January with my DS (9) and DS (4). They LOVED it LOVED it LOVED it. The highlight of their trip!
I don't want to give too much away in case you do it yourself, but it is an adventure through the magic kingdom where you are searching for captain's hook, hook.
It cost 25.00 a person (adults too), but you get 10% off if you're AAA member.
It lasted about 2 hours.
If you google it, there are FULL reviews about it- but that would give away exactly what happens there.

If this is what you are describing, the Family Magic Tour is open to all ages and is a fun tour instead of a "behind the scenes" kind of tour.

My family participated in it about 3 years ago. It is a tour to stop the villian du jour from doing bad things to the Magic Kingdom. It involves group participation and trivia question/answer. Ours was children friendly, asking questions the kids would know (if they watch Disney movies) and some harder ones that adults would know (what is a hidden mickey?). There are some physical things like skipping or hopping (bouncing like Tigger) and some silly things (we barked across the town square). In the end there was a surprise character meeting and a ride "fastpass".

I thought it was a blast. My 4 year old was ready to go home so he wasn't into it much.

During the 2 hours, you are taken through the park's themed lands in search of clues (like a treasure hunt).

Offered daily at 10 a.m.

If you want I can PM you the FULL description that I journaled, I didnt want to write every last detail in case others wanted to be surprised which is why I suggested googling it. But it is about 2 hours, it cost us 25.00 a person (minus AAA) and it's a treasure hunt through the magic kingdom, where YES, even adults will need to be doing 'silly' things, but it's fun & the kids love it.

My grand gathering of 8 people also just participared in this tour and I have to say that it was one of the best parts of our trip...
I would definately recommend adding it in as part of your trip my dd6 and ds5 were really into it and absolutely had a blast!

I had read about it too. we leave saturday and have it scheduled for wednesday. i have kept it a surprise for my two dd. Looking forward to it and will report back.

I did it two years ago with my dd (then 11) and my younger ds (his 5th birthday). They had a great time! Both of them wanted to do it again this trip even though they realize that it's going to be the same thing. They also talked dh and my older ds (now 15) into joining us.

There is a discount if you use your Disney Visa card (I think 20%) to pay for the tour.

I've been tempted to try this tour with my family - son is 5 years old. Would it matter if he does not know who capt. hook is? Is the fun of it just in the tour itself or would he really be missing a crucial part of it not knowing hook?

We did it last year and loved it! This tour was the highlight of our trip and the kids want to do it again next time we go - maybe next year :sunny:

We got 20% off using our Disney Visa :teeth:

You may want to let him watch peter pan beforehand. He would STILL have a good time. But the whole premise is saving the magic kingdom from him. They play peter pan's favorite game during it & in the end they meet Peter Pan & Wendy.

DH, DS4, and I did this last September. It was the most fun we had the whole trip, and we had a FANTASTIC trip! Big, big thumbs up here! :thumbsup2

Our family did this in January. DH, DD5 and I all give it a BIG thumbs up! DS3 gave it a BIG thumbs down. I would say the ideal ages for this tour would be between about 4 and 12. The kids who could read probably had the most fun because they got to take turns reading clues. Also, everyone inlcluding adults is expected to do all kinds of silly things.

Our tour included several kids ages 5-12 who all seemed to love it, a 2 and a 3-yr-old who both hated it (lots of crying/complaining), 2 teens (~15) who were very good sports and were along for younger sibling but would definitely have rather skipped the tour and several adults who all seemed to love it. The scavenger hunt was above the little kids' heads and my son was driven crazy by the fact we didn't get to stop and go on all the rides we were passing. We did get to go on two rides/attractions and that was the only part he enjoyed.

DH and I agreed we wished one of us would have stayed with DS and gone on rides but we couldn't decide which of us since WE both loved the tour so much :teeth:

This sounds like a ton of fun and something I would like to check into for myself and the kids. What number do you call to try to schedule it? Are ressies hard to get? We are under 30 days, but this would be a super cool surprise for the kids. TIA for your help

I want to know if you must book it beforehand, too....I am defintiely gonna check it out and try to book it for my DH, my DS [11], my DNeph [10], and myself...I don't think that my DS[17] and his friend would beinterested in it tho.....

yes you book ahead and pay at time of reservation. I had no trouble making the reservations (just about three weeks before tour date). I will have to find the number to post later. god luck!

You most likely won't encounter trouble making the reservation. It seems as if many people don't know about the tour, so it should be no problem. I would definately call and try...And don't be alarmed when the phone rep doesn't give you a lot of info about the tour...I think that is part of the fun!
