Just a tip for CR guests...you may just time it right to be on the dock when Cap'n Hook, Mr. Smee and Co. head down for a pirate cruise...while we have never actually booked a cruise, we were waiting for a launch to WL and Cap'n Hook snuck up behind DS and DD and scared the "croc" out of 'em! It was hilarious! I saw him coming and he gave me a thumbs up, as in if it was O.K. to sneak up on the kids...then the characters posed with guests for a few before boarding their Ship...It was GREAT! Now, I am not suggesting folks stake out the dock, or hold up characters for photos when those who have paid for a cruise are anxious to get going...just mentioning that the magic at CR happens when you least expect it!

We saw this one of the first night's we were while we were lounging by the pool. I had to do a double-take, I couldn't believe Cap'n Hook was *RIGHT THERE*. :sunny:

Those nighttime cruisers are a rowdy bunch. DH and I would see them coming in late at night, singing and carousing and carrying on. Made me want to book one for our next trip!

Right out of the back entrance of the Tower. You can't miss it! And be sure to check it out at night, it's lined with tube lighting that changes color! Almost hypnotic. [

Thanks for that tip...once again, that is a tidbit that we will get a lot of mileage out of!! My boys will LOVE the changing colors!

hiya

does the 14th floor room have a mini bar? also will there be a price list included?

I just wanted to let everyone know about our trip June 1st -10th at the CR.

We stayed on the 9th floor tower with an MK view. The view was unbelievable and I do not think it can be beat anywhere else. The fireworks each night were amazing, and towards the end when they play the wishes song loud, we could hear it! It felt like we were close enough to hear people screaming on Splash Mountain. We did notice that about every 10 seconds you could see a large flash from Splash Mountain which must have been the camera taking the picture from the drop.

Our check in was easy, our room was not quite ready, but we only had to wait about 30 minutes. Our check out was also very easy, and it was great that we could check in for Continental Airlines at the resort.

We have two children, 6 and 3, so I wanted to get life vests for them in the pool. I was surprised that we only had to do this once. They assigned our children the life vests, took down our information and let us know that we needed to return the vests on our last day. This made it so much easier than having to checkout life vests every day!

If you are leaving the MK late at night (around closing) I would highly suggest taking the walkway. I was surprised at how long the line for the resort monorail was!

Here is one of my major complaints which will not bother most of the people who are going to the CR, but I have to say it anyway. DH and I both are smokers, so when I made the reservation it was for a tower room with the MK view with smoking preferred. When we checked into the resort, I was told that all of the tower rooms were now nonsmoking. Only one of the wings (sorry I cannot remember which one) had smoking optional rooms. So they tell me that they are going to put me on the 9th floor in a section where they put other people who might want to smoke and that it is okay to smoke on the balcony.

At first I had no problem with this, I have children, so I would smoke outside anyway. But then I started thinking about if I did not have children and how much I was paying for this room and what if I wanted to smoke in the room. So I call down to the front desk to ask where the smoking rooms are. They tell me they are on the 1st floor. What? There are no rooms on the first floor. No the smoking rooms are on the first floor of the wings they tell me. So I ask to talk to a manager (no, not to get anything, just to find out what the policy is). The manager tells me they are nonsmoking resort, except on the balconies, and that I should have been notified when they changed their policy. Okay. So I decide to call down to the front desk the next day and ask the same question. The manager says "Well you must be on the 6th floor, that is where we put the people who request smoking". No, I am on the 9th floor. At this point I gave up and quit worrying about it. I smoked on my balcony, and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was next to me who requested a nonsmoking room. When the CM first told me to smoke on the balcony of a nonsmoking room, I thought "are you kidding me, the people who cannot be around smoke will kill me!".

My main complaint about all of this was that I spoke to three different managers and they all had a different answer. So I guess this complaint would also affect nonsmokers, since they could not decide where they smoking rooms should be.

Since being back home, I thought the CR was great, the view itself was great and worth the money. I might give it another try just because I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, and assuming that the managers were confused because of all the rehab going on.

DD and I just returned on Wed. We spent our last 3 nights at CR.......
So, thought I would just add my thoughts on CR.
Overall we thought it was okay...... however, unless the price is REALLY great, probably won't stay there again.
Check in was quick and easy.
We had a ground floor room in the North wing facing the marina. I think it may have been a little better if we were able to see MK from the room. But, with being so close, unless you are above the 4th floor, most trees will block any real view.
It was not a renovated room, but was still nice. But nothing special from mousekeeping..... actually, they never did bring enough towels, which surprised me because I've never had an issue before with not enough towels in any Disney resort.
The walk to MK was FANTASTIC! So easy!!!
BUT...... try to get to MGM or Animal Kingdom!!! HORRIBLE!! It took 45 minutes one morning to get to AK. We only waited 5 minutes for the bus, but had to pick up WL, Poly and GF. Then the stop at Blizzard Beach...... And the bus was so jammed with people...... aweful!
And the ride to MGM was just as bad!
When we stayed at Poly, I don't remember all those stops.... only remember GF included in our route.

As for the pool...... our least favorite for sure! Both pools were old and looked like they needed a lot of work! The "quiet pool" was so small DD couldn't even do any laps. And the worst part...... there was a convention at the time and both pools were filled with "business" people.... all talking shop! In the small pool there was a group of about 15 that all had their "drinks" with them, just wading and talking shop. DD and I felt like we were totally out of place.

The "food and fun" food court if you can call it that, was one of the worst I have seen on Disney property. The one morning we got breakfast.... it was horrible. I ordered a breakfast sandwich..... the girl turned around, picked up a plate that had been sitting under the heat lamp (for probably at least 20 minutes from the way it looked and tasted), then just handed it to me. I couldn't eat it.... it tasted so bad.
The ice was never working. They had an ice bucket on the counter that leaked all over the place.
Certainly no magic there!

Overall..... we did enjoy being so close to MK and the monorail to Epcot. But CR can't hold a candle to the Poly for atmosphere.
I am glad we stayed there so that we wont be wondering anymore.
But for the money..... just wasn't worth it.

Can someone give me step by step directions to over-ride the AC sensors? :confused3 DH will have a FIT if he comes back to a room that is too warm.

I need help with the locks on the doors!

Can anyone describe to the me the way the doors lock or latch? Is there a security latch higher up on the door?

I have a 2 yr old escape artist and over the weekend when we stayed at a hotel, she quiclky realized she could open the door and RUN down the hallway. It was so much fun to have Mommy chase her in her pj's! There was a latch and we used it from then on.

We are staying at the CR for the quickness to the MK but how are the buses to AK and MGM? Do we go to the TTC for the buses? Are they really packed? Now I am second guessing everything again.

My DH has always wanted to stay here though I'm not as keen on it. However, this September we are bringing my niece with us and that makes us a family of 5 ... so I decided to give DH is CR stay this time due to the size of the rooms!

I booked a standard garden wing room ... now I'm feeling like if I'm gonna stay at the CR I want to book a tower room! I am a BIG view person ... love having a view!

For those of you who stay tower is it "worth" the extra cost? If you have the money to do it without too much problem that is?

Then ... if you do the tower is the cost difference between Bay and MK that large .... and again is the MK view worth it?

Finally -- could my niece (age 15) sleep on the daybed or is there room for a twin sized blow up matress at night?

Thanks!

Dreamalittledream: There's a deadbolt lock just under the door handle. The door handle is the paddle type and would be quite easy for a toddler to open if the door weren't latched. However, there's another latch about 5 feet from the floor that your daughter couldn't reach unless she's a *really* tall 2-year-old. princess:

There's a standard hotel security latch higher up on the door that should keep your two year old safely contained. :thumbsup2

You can catch a bus to MGM and AK outside of the resort. When we were there a month ago there were never any crowds on them and we seldom had to wait longer than ten minutes to catch a bus. Keep in mind they do make other stops--whether it be picking up other guests from WL or the Poly or stopping at BB on the way to AK. More than once we were the ONLY people on the MGM bus. :)

We stayed at the CR for the first time last month in a tower room and I would absolutely stay there again over a garden room anytime. It would be worth it (to me) to scrimp and save a little longer to get a tower room again. They're just too good!

Then ... if you do the tower is the cost difference between Bay and MK that large .... and again is the MK view worth it?
I don't think it's that much of a difference but we had a Bay Lake view and LOVED it. Granted, I'm sure there's nothing like being able to see the MK and Wishes from your balcony but we didn't have the first regret having a Bay Lake view. No parking lot views and you can see the lake and pools from your balcony. And the sun rises on the Bay Lake side which makes for a stunning morning vista. :sunny: I would probably stay on the Bay side again if given a choice.

Finally -- could my niece (age 15) sleep on the daybed or is there room for a twin sized blow up matress at night?
She could probably sleep on the daybed as comfortably as on an air matress. There isn't a lot of spare floor space but she might be able to put a twin sized matress on the floor between the first bed and the desk.

WDWObsessed: The MK tower view is very much worth it to us, but not everyone wants to spend their vacation money on such an expensive room. Our problem is that sometimes it's impossible to get a room at all at the CR unless we're calling well in advance. Our preferences are first for the Tower MK view, then Tower Bay Lake as a second choice, then the wings if there's nothing available in the Tower. The view at the Tower is unforgettable on either side.

Your 15-year-old niece should fit fine on the daybed assuming she's of no more than average height.

thanks, that is what I was hoping to hear. I thought it was a std thing in hotel rooms. I'm sure I have always used it but never really noticed that I needed it until this weekend.

Read my post a few posts up..... bus service is aweful.... IMHO!

I think that on the day that we go to Animal Kingdom that we will just drive. We usually get there when the park opens and stay till about 3. I agree that when we stayed at the Contemporary a few years ago the bus to AK and MGM did take a while because of all the stops.

Anyone have any updates on the 14th floor?
We are due to arrive on the 1st Oct after our cruise, I really hope it's going to be renovated! even worst they are renovating at that time.

I just switched our reservations for this December from WL to CR wings, and requested a non-smoking renovated room. The CM told me that I don't need any requests noted on my reservation since all the rooms are non-smoking now, and all the wing rooms have been renovated. I told her that I thought I heard only the south wing was renovated and she said; no all the wings are done, and they are finishing up the tower. I didn't want to argue with her, so I just thanked her and hung up. Do you think I should call back and try to see if a different CM will note my requests on my reservations?
Thanks.

I just made reservations for Dec. 25-Jan. 2, 2 garden wing rooms. When I said I thought all rooms were non-smoking now,the person I spoke with at DVC Member services (I'm using DVC points for the rooms) said she wasn't aware of that. I guess it just isn't widely known.

I would call back. We were there in April, had a room in the North wing and there were no signs of any renovations at all. it would be a complete miracle if they had renovated it completly since then. The CM you talked to seemed a bit misinformed. I would want the no smoking on the reservation, even if it truely were not needed.
