DISNEY'S CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information Thread!

Not a stupid question at all IPO means Itinerary Planning Office :sunny: It is the service that comes with Concierge level accommodations. If you are not staying CL, then I would call WDW number and tell them what you are looking for, they will give you the number to call.

there is a Concierge Information thread, the first posts lists all the phone, fax and e mails for all the hotels.

The problem is who you get in the IPO. Some planners are wonderful and some are not, meaning that some will barely answer a question and others are so informative with ideas, options and prices. When you get a good one, keep their name.

My experiences with IPO over the years have been superb to extremely poor.

We have always stayed at the GF RPC, this is our very first visit to the CR at the Atrium Club this Sept.

I will be calling most likely on monday, so any info I get I will pass along. I like having surprises in our room too! I also found out never to call on a weekend. I also have a fax machine so maybe they will be able to fax some info over to me.

goofie4goofy - If you get any more luck than me let me know please. I have just sent an email to the IPO manager to complain about the service and I never usually complain about anything!
Let us know what you find out.

does anyone know if you can order a chocolate monorail if you are not staying at the contemporary? We are eating at Chef Mickeys for DS 12th birthday and I would love to somehow order one for him, even to just take back to our resort....does not have to be for dinner.

Thanks,

Pam

Ohhhhh Nooooo! Never ever E-mail. Always call. When you call don't explain anything to the person answering the call, simply and politely ask to speak to a manager. You will get instant results. If they say the manager is busy, say you will hold, but do not get off the phone without speaking to the Mgr. There is a manager that oversees the IPO.

I had a problem at the GF a few years ago. I had ordered some very expensive items to be in our room (the total was around $2200.00 of stuff) They could not get it right. I went to the conc desk and asked for a manager and explained that all I want to do is spend money, I am not looking for anything for free, I just want someone to listen to me. From then on, they have...whenever we go to the GF I have an executive relations person that takes care of us over there. It is great....it is a higher level of conc service.

My point is, call don't e-mail, speak nicely and politely but be firm and see what happens.

FYI, the CR and GF share the SAME IPO staff. So you should be getting good service. There were several complaints on the GF thread about recent problems with return calls/emails from the GF IPO, but it seems to be better now. I'd suggest calling. I'd also love some info on the chocolate monorail. My triplets would love that! Does anyone have a number to call to order it?

Great Thread!:thumbsup2 Slowly working my way through it, luv the pics.

finally, after 7 months a room opened in the Tower, MK view. We were booked in Garden View Deluxe & I didn't think any would ever open up.

I got a AAA rate for Fri & Sat (Oct. 13 & 14th). Family has been clamoring to stay here but, I could never "swing it", decided to splurge. Will cut down on spending elsewhere during trip
wink.gif
. Cost was around $200 more than original quote of $852. I think it's a good rate.??

I don't know anything about the tower rooms. Did notice that they seemed to be working on them when we were there in June. Hope the MK facing ones will be completed by our trip in Oct. Do they close a floor @ a time?

Wasn't sure what to request, so I specified an upper floor. Any other suggestions?

Our ADR's for those nights are @ Chef Mickeys (what a co-incidence LOL) & over to Trail's end the next night (since we've never tried it & it's @ the end of a week of heavy dining on DP). Wonder if we should cancel TE & book the Concourse Steakhouse?

Hope I can keep my big mouth shut & surprise my family - it'll be hard.

This is our first stay at the CR so excuse my stupid question....

When you stay CL at the CR do you have someone who greets you at the entrance and do you go to a seperate check in area like when staying CL at the GF?

We are really looking forward to staying here. It was a spur of the moment and we just booked (and paid for) yesterday. We always stay at the GF, but we wanted to try something new. We were lucky enough to get Atrium Club, I have been reading such great things about it. DH and I are sneaking a romantic trip in before we take my Mom to the GF in Dec.

When you drive up to front entrance just tell the bellman who greets you that you are staying on the Atrium, then one of them will take you & your bags up to the floor. Once up there you can check in, so you don't need to stand in the lobby line incase there is a lot of people checking.

I saw the new lounge on 12 the other day and it is great. Just wanted to let everyone know! I will try to get pictures soon.

Hi Patricia  I'm staying 12th floor again in October with my daughter. We were on the 12th floor last summer right before they started the rehab. I can't wait to see the pictures :)

Hi, I have a question hopefully someone will be able to answer. I read somewhere ( can't remember where), that the 12th floor is going to have more food offerigs like the 14th floor. Does anyone know if this is true? I booked the 14th floor for next March, and it is quite expensive. If the 12th floor offers more I would like to change. I want to make this a vacation of a lifetime, I have never stayed at the Contemporary. My kids are getting older and family vacations as I have known them will probably end soon. Anyone stay on the 14th floor? I am hoping I made the right decision.

Thank you Janet :)

The 12th floor has exactly the same offerings as the 14th as far as food/drinks now. 14 has suites and larger balconies off of the lounge area but 12 has a larger lounge now (as it should since there are more rooms!)

Thank you, I think I will call my TA today and see if I can get it switched. I can't wait to see the pictures. I think I will love the Contemporary! :)

When you call to book your room is it possible to check in at 8am??? If you let them know ahead of time :hourglass

Just wanted to let you all know that I also asked the IPO about special things to purchase for turndown, etc. (and also about Halloween happenings) and this was the reply. I did have to send the email twice but this response was pretty timely:

Good Morning,

You can view and order gift baskets through www.disneyflorist.com. Also we can arrange some items through private dining, a list of those are as follows:

Chocolate Top Hat Mickey w/ 6 dipped strawberries----------------------------------------------------------------$45 + tax grat and delivery fee
Chocolate Minnie w/ 6 dipped strawberries-----------------------------------------------------------------------------$45 + tax grat and delivery fee
Monorail amenity------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$50 + tax grat and delivery fee
Chocolate Contemporary picture box w/ 6 truffles--------------------------------------------------------------------$50 + tax grat and delivery fee
Chocolate truffles by the dozen--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$20 + tax grat and delivery fee
2 cookies and a small carafe of milk----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$ 6.95 + tax grat and delivery fee
Cookie basket(6cookies)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$9.00 + tax grat and delivery fee

Halloween events at the individual resorts vary, last your there was trick or treating at the resort. There also is usually a haunted hayride at the fort wilderness campground. This is not something that you can reserve the tickets are sold day of. The big event is of course Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

If there is anything else we can assist you with please let us know.

It all depends if a room is clean and ready to go. Busy times that does not happen that much. September or January probably- unless there is a huge convention or something. The Contemporary is pretty full most of the year!

It's been my experience that the computers will accept check-ins anytime after 6 AM and there is no need to call ahead. There is only a slim chance that your room will actually be available then, however, so it's best to plan accordingly.

The CM will check you in and give you your "Key to the World," but it won't open your room door until the room number has been assigned to you and is vacated. The CM will probably hand you a business card with a phone number to call later in the day to see if your room is ready. At that point, your key will be active -- no need to go back to the front desk unless you really want to.

I would pack a day bag and check everything else with Bell Services. Head off to enjoy the parks or the pool while you're waiting for your room to be ready.
