DISNEY'S CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information Thread!

I just asked a Cast Member who works at Contemporary Grounds and she told me it is true they are closing on Sunday and they plan to re-open in the future by the convention center.

We have never stayed at the CR so I'm looking for some info on a Standard Atrium Club room. The Disney site says this is a "limited concierge service" What does this mean. Is there a better level of concierge.

Any advice would be appriciated>

That is 100% false. The Atrium Club is 100% full Club Level service and is no longer limited service. There is also the Tower Club on the 14th floor, however the difference between them and the Atrium Club is there are only 5 standard rooms and the rest are suites. Aside from that the foods they serve are the exact same as on the Atrium Club.

inquiring minds want to know.... are there Krispy Kremes in the CL at breakfast time :)?????

Seeing that both clubs are "full" concierge service, what, if any, advantages are there to staying on the 14th floor? I will be staying at the CR in Feb and want to get one of these rooms. TIA.:)

The 12th floor has a bigger lounge, however there would be less guests on the 14th floor since there are less rooms. However if you don't need a suite, the standard rooms on the 14th floor are like $60.00 more then the ones on the 12th floor.

Tonight when my family and I got back we spoke with a manager of the Contemporary and he told us tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM the statue of Mickey & Leopold Stokowski is going to be taken away for a period of time and be on display at Disney MGM Studios.

Besides that next week part of the check-in desk is going to be closed, so their going to start renovating around there.

Soo happy that I snagged pics of EVERYTHING in the Contemporary in my most recent June-July visit. :( No Food & Fun Center AND Mickey/Stokowski statue?! "Say it ain't so!"

Thank You, I had read in a few places it was full club, but got a bit scared when Disney's online booking had it as limited club.

We have stayed on both floors. The 14th floor only received a "soft" refurbishment. The furniture wasn't changed....just the curtains and the bedding (although I can't remember if the closets were renovated - I don't think they were...which means more room in the old ones). We like the 14th floor rooms because they still have the old dressers, which means more drawer space. Also, the bathrooms still have the old deep filled sink (and lots of counter space) as opposed to the new flat square type - there are two, that don't seem to drain very well (and also splash back at you).

You will not be able to look down onto the 4th floor concourse from the 14th because it is the top of the tower and there are walls instead of a balcony (some people love the idea of privacy...but we actually enjoy looking down at Chef Mickey's every once in a while - and so does our "monorail addicted" son)! The lounge is a bit smaller than the 12th floor but there are less rooms, therefore less guests occupying it.

It's really a tough call for us...and drawer space and bathroom sink preferences may even sound silly to most people. I hate to live out of a suitcase and prefer all our clothes put away and suitcases tucked away in the closet. It's an awful lot of money just for that convenience!

We actually spend a bit more time in our room only because we have a special needs child and he needs more quiet time throughout the day. So when one parent is at the parks with one child, the other parent can still enjoy the spectacular view from the bedroom balcony while our other child gets his much needed "down time".

In all honesty, I think any room on any floor in the Tower is wonderful!!
Enjoy your trip! Let me know if you have any specific questions about the Concierge levels...I will do my best to answer them to the best of my knowledge!!:thumbsup2

They have to eventually do all these renovations. Don't forget that eventually the Concourse Steakhouse would be closing.

I was not aware that the Concourse Steakhouse would be closing. We just discovered it on our trip last month and enjoyed it! We were hoping to eat there again (we will be staying CR next June 2008). Is it closing or relocating?

It is closing. You should be ok in June 2008, but that will proably be "it."

It is supposed to close for good next August.

Actually according the renovation schedule, the Concourse Steakhouse is set to close in April 2008.

April 2008 through August 14, 2008 - The Concourse Steak house will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as the new Counter Service location for the resort. During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

CR Resort Fan 4 Life - First of all, thank you for all of your 'live' updates! :thumbsup2 I hope you and your family are having a wonderful vacation! :goodvibes

I have a question for you - Could you please take a look at the laptop that is in your Contemporary room and see if there are usb ports? We were thinking about not bringing our laptop with us, since there is one in each CR room. We would still like to download our pictures to a portable hard drive each night, and we need to know if this is possible with the in-room laptop. Thanks for any info you can get about this.

Have fun!
-Michelle
