Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

I've finally caught up on this thread, we haven't stayed at the CR since Christmas 2016 (which has been our only previous stay, actually)!

We will be there June 18-22 Standard View Atrium Club after spending 4 nights each at the YC and BC. I put in a request for north end odd numbered room, through touring plans and will do it through DSS also, but one thing I LOVE about the CR is there are no bad rooms or views and none are far from the lounge, so there is very little to stress about regarding room location.

We have reservations for CM and the CP, haircuts for all 4 kids (2 are first haircuts) and my DH at Harmony Barbershop, and the CL extra FP booked for the MK the 19th. Because we booked so late I haven't been able to get Ohana or EMM (although with the extra FP program I'm not sure that would be a good use of money anyway, it's just that my kids always loved it and wanted to do it again). I'll keep watching, those might pop up and if they don't there's always next time!

I just wanted to add that I've been coming to WDW since 1984, and while I always thought the CR was "neat" I never really had any desire to stay there because I thought the theming was boring or non-existant compared to the other disney resorts. Then when we decided to stay over Christmas we opted to try the CR because of being able to walk to the MK - we had 2 kids and I wanted to actually go on Christmas Day, so it seemed like a great time to try it and to be able to avoid any transportation lines. Also, our DS7 loved Chef Mickey's and the monorail and wanted to stay there. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised, and really enjoyed our stay there. Even though there isn't the theming in the sense of a lot of the other resorts, it is amazing to be able to see the monorail going through the resort as soon as you walk out of your room. The views from both sides of the resort are amazing, one thing I love about the Atrium Club is we can get the best of both worlds - the wonderful Bay Lake View without giving up the fireworks view because we can go to the lounge to watch. Plus you can see Space Mountain and Astro orbiter clear as day from the inner hallway when walking to your room if you are in the north end. The pools are not up to par theming-wise (or zero entry wise) IMO, but despite that there is just something special about being in that bullseye pool and leaning back and seeing the CR tower towering over you. It's like you're in the middle of Bay Lake, it's very serene and the view is amazing. We were lucky that we went in December but it was in the 80's every day and we swam there on Christmas Eve and Day. So now the CR also has a lot of nostalgia for me, I'll always remember that amazing trip! I hope this one can live up to that one,we're really looking forward to it!!

Love your post. We love CR and Atrium Club, and you captured nearly all of the attributes that we like as well. Hope you have a great trip in June. :-)

Thanks GADisneyDad14! Your posts all over have been very helpful and fun to read! You recently made me really want to try AKL CL, which is one we haven't tried yet and one I was reluctant to try because of the lack of proximity to the lounge. Alas, now that we cannot fit in rooms that only hold 4, I don't see that in our future unless we leave a couple (or all!) of the kids behind, and then I see us staying at a MK or Epcot resort. But you never know...

We were there the same time as you, left Wednesday. We too were upgraded to the tower from the garden wing and it was amazing! I’m ruined for ever staying in the garden wing again. Went over to do laundry one night and it’s just not the same. We stayed at the Contemporary as a second choice and it ended up being so much better than I ever imagined!

Reading the stories of getting upgraded from Garden Wing to the tower gives me hope that maybe we'll receive the same upgrade! Will be happy either way, but that would definitely be exciting.::MickeyMo

For those who got upgrades, did you originally put in a room request or did it just magically happen when you got there? We have a reservation for a garden view room, and I'm wondering if we should put in a room request or lay low and see if we get an upgrade. Either way, we'll be happy.

I requested “close to transportation” or “close to main building” through our TA and touring plans...can’t exactly remember, but that was all. We arrived about noon and went to the desk to see if it was possible to check in early. That’s when we found out the happy news. We didn’t get a room ready text so I’m not sure if the upgrade was preassigned or if we were just a lucky recipient of pixie dust from the cast member checking us in.

Hi All - We are staying in the tower in July. however, DH is now terrified that someone will somehow fall off the balcony (he has a fear of heights). Any thoughts??

Well you could just keep everyone off the balcony and respect his fear of heights. Another option is to request a lower floor, the tower rooms start of floor(s): 5-6 depending on the view booked. Is that a compromise that would work?

Dave

That would be the plan but I don't want him to have to worry about it the whole trip. I have thought about maybe switching to the garden wing and requesting a patio - we currently have a theme park view which DH wants.. but maybe he would be happier not having to worry about the balcony issue. Anyone else with height fears here who has dealt with something like this?

That has literally never happened at a Disney resort (an accidental fall from a balcony). The railings at CR are super high. No one will accidentally "fall off." There are upper locks on the insides of the doors too so kids can't open them.

I agree with this. I have a fear of falling at deep heights myself but never felt that when I was on the balcony or scared the kids would fall. The railings are tall and secure. I also had the TPV room as well so we were pretty high. Maybe I was too transfixed on the beautiful view to be worried about the height :scratchin

Question...We are staying in a one bedroom at BLT. Which is more comfortable for an average size adult....the sofa bed or the chair that makes a bed?

None of the convertibles are as comfortable as the real bed, but my son slept on the twin sleeper chair and his friend slept on the queen sleeper sofa. He is tall and lean, his friend a bit shorter and heavier. They were both in their last year of college when they stayed with us. Kids can survive the convertibles better than older adults.

I shared the sofa bed a few times over the years. It is hard but comfortable. (dd and I slept well)

Biggest issue is lack of a comforter. I always ask a maid in the hall or call for a few extra blankets. Us northerners like to be bundled when we sleep. I have asked for 3 without any problems. ( one for all 3 beds in the room)

We had no kind of room request when we were upgraded from the garden wing to the Tower.

3 days to go! Can't believe we booked this trip way back in December and now it's just a few days away. We have our FPs booked and our Club Level FPs booked, shows booked, and I cancelled ADRs, rearranged things numerous times, booked a pool Cabana for our last full day, lol. We're (me mostly) very excited :) Can't wait to be at the CR.

Wow found this way back on page 7:eek:

@WDWKOOK add us logorail 7/5-8 CR TPV atrium club. Me dd23 and ds will be 21 and can finally try a beverage in the lounge :drinking1

Knowing him he will still prefer the nesquick;)

Anybody know what kind of sparkling is in the lounge these days? Dd wants that and her castle view:cloud9:
