Disney's Club Level (CL) Information & Questions

We loved the AKL CL stay in August. We were also at the 2nd pod elevators, but loved that location. I would stop at the window between to view the ugly birds, and found it was a great area for laundry and ease to various cool stairways etc., My kids loved the secret staircase. Sam always welcomed me and the kids, even if he was a yankee fan, lol. Loved the sangria, other offetings, doorbell service, the quieter tables on the hall side.
My son rather sneak in the side stairs though than have to say hi to the desk people, lol.
My favorite resort so far. Well, except for POR, which is different, but still beloved, and our next trip.

Glad you had a great time and enjoyed AKL CL. LOL about your son sneaking in the side stairs to avoid saying hi to people. Hope you have a great time on your next trip to POR :).

Thanks! One thing I forgot to mention was, although you may be a little farther down on a pod, I think it helps your room view if you are a little bit, so that the Arusha rock area isn't obstructing your view.

Hi y’all! Wanted to do a comprehensive post about our latest Disney CL adventure, specifically, CR Atrium Club this time. Some of the below is more trip report than specifically CL, apologies in advance! Some may repeat from my posts during the trip (again, sorry). Hopefully the details about us/our trip give some context as to the lens we view CL and why it works for us.

This was a short trip, 9/9-9/12, and it was just me and DS6 – another boys trip! Poor DW doesn’t get to have any Disney fun. Primary purpose was to do MNSSHP that Sunday night, which is something we very much enjoy. If I had to choose one time of year to go to WDW, it would be during the Halloween party.

We chose CR primarily due to walkability to MK, accessibility to transportation options, and it was just time to get it in on the rotation. I like CR but in small doses – it has a major drawback (the pool) that keeps me from wanting to stay here for a long trip. We stayed CR CL once before in December 2014.

Made the reservations less than 30 days out. Walked on property with no FPs and no ADRs pretty much intentionally and it had zero negative impact on our trip. Admittedly it’s much easier to get by like that with only two people and a slow time of year.

As for CR….we had an absolutely incredible stay, among the best trips in our few years of Disney travels. I don’t mean to sound like a Disney homer because it’s certainly not all cake and lollypops, but credit needs to be given where credit is due. We encountered excellent CL CMs who went way above/beyond to make our trip a magical stay. That plus very low crowds, great weather, one last MSEP, and an awesome Halloween party combined for a great short trip!

Here’s a quick rundown of some highlights (again, some are non CL, sorry):

  • Excellent check-in experience. I had done online check-in and had my room number already, but I played dumb and stopped by the front desk to tell them I was checking in CL. The CM pulled up my reservation, acknowledged us as being repeat CL guests (a first for us at Disney) and thanked us for our business. She made a quick call up to CL and then personally escorted us to the elevators and rode with us up to the 12th floor. There we were met immediately at the elevator by a CL CM who walked us to our room. She made sure both of our MBs worked, showed us some features of the room (fridge, safe, etc), showed us the TV channel with the Wishes soundtrack, and informed us what time Wishes would be that evening. Also gave us a rundown of lounge hours and what was for appetizers that evening. She was on her game big time. Could I do without all of this personal treatment and be just fine? Yes. Was it a nice touch? Absolutely.

  • I had booked a TPV room. My room requests were “north side of the building” as a first priority and “odd numbered room” as second priority. I received both, was in room 4843 which is about half way from the lounge (middle) to the north end of the building (a perfect location for frequent lounge patrons like us). Having an odd numbered room was great! Of course, the view is stunning and never gets old. One of the few negatives about TPV rooms is the somewhat constant noisy bus traffic. I could see myself enjoying a Bay Lake view perhaps for a little more serene vantage point. Would like to try that view category next. As to being on the north side, I much preferred this vs. being over Chef Mickey’s like we were last time (I hadn't really learned to tricks of what to request on that trip).

  • CL food was relatively average IMHO. Better quality and more variety than Poly CL, not as good as GF RPC or BC CL. It got the job done for us, but I wouldn’t rave about it.

  • Similar to what I experienced at RPC earlier this year, CMs were slow to clear tables. I wish they would just put an area to bus your own dishes – would make it so much easier!

  • CL CM’s were roughly 75% very pleasant/friendly and 25% wouldn’t acknowledge your existence. For full context, I’m a very low maintenance CL guest – I don’t use the desk CMs for anything, I don’t expect gushing interactions at every turn, I don’t want or expect to be BFFs. But I do expect a “hello” or “good morning” when passing, a “good evening,” maybe a little interaction here/there. There were a few lounge CMs that were just zombies, going through the motions. Boo to you!

  • Now, counter that with a set of VERY EXCELLENT CL CMs who sprinkled a little Pixie Dust our way one afternoon out of the blue. It was totally random, incredibly generous, and created a memory DS and I will have forever. Forgive the hyperbole, but it was just that good. We would come back to CR CL just for these CMs and the level of attention/appreciation as a guest we received.

  • I accidently left my glasses in the room the day we checked out. I received a call from CR lost/found in less than 24 hours – frankly before I even realized I had left them. They mailed them to me right away and had packed them carefully in a box. Nice effort on their part. If they had not called I probably would have thought I lost them somewhere else.

  • Rant coming up, sorry. Disney needs to just bite the bullet and take the wrecking ball to both CR pools. For us, this is the biggest demerit against CR and is a total deal killer from us wanting to do a longer CR stay. There is SO MUCH SPACE to do something incredibly impressive out there. Sorry to be so negative, but we’re pool people! CR just doesn’t do it for me.

  • We weren’t in the room for two nights but one night we were and had really late turndown service – around 9:15pm. Maybe that’s normal there? They had new to us Ghirardelli chocolates, but only one or two per bed. Not that I need or would eat any more than that I guess!

  • One evening I came back to find two child car seats had been delivered to my room (obviously not mine). Called the bellhop/luggage services and it took a while for them to understand the situation. When the guy came to get them, he stood there with his hand nearly out wanting a tip. Am I supposed to tip someone for taking luggage away that was delivered by mistake? Awkward! (I am normally a good tipper but I didn’t tip him, didn’t think I needed to in that circumstance) Boo to you too.

  • It wasn’t a long enough trip to see if this was a consistent pattern, but had pretty late room cleanings both days. Was never cleaned before 2-3pm. Our plans are usually RD a park, then back by lunch / shortly after so I tend to appreciate it when they come early. Wasn’t the case here, but not the end of the world.

Here are some various pics of our adventure!

Lovely! Room was in reasonably good condition except for maybe the carpets a bit. Needs a refresher there sometime soon.

We stayed for three nights at AKL at the end of our trip this summer.
ZZub, your experience largely echoes our experience in Jan 2015, except ours was before the room ready texts.

When it comes to CL's in general, I have to preface all by saying the CL staff have often been wonderful to us! Several have been hero-level, trip-saving kind of wonderful.

I too, have had awkward encounters with the AKL staff, and a napping man at AKL. I've posted my encounter with the staff before, so I won't re-post it.

Our AKL napping man napped in the lounge every afternoon, not post-check out. As it happens, our room was near his. I REALLY don't pay attention to other people's conversations, but we happened to walk by at the moment this poor man's wife VERY LOUDLY kicked him out of their room one afternoon. As I recall, she didn't want to hear any more of his blankety-blank snoring! It was a while ago, so I forget what she said she was trying to do, but it wasn't sleeping. (maybe reading?)

In our case, the tables and evening food were hoarded. By 4:30 all the tables were taken. Large family groups sent one person to grab "their" table before 4:30. They sat at the same tables all three days. A scuffle broke out when a guest sat as another family's table!

We haven't been back since that visit.

Last post, I promise. I know this is better suited for another thread but it goes along with why we stayed at CR this trip and I just have to brag on my wife for the great costume execution. Here was DS's costume for the MNSSHP. DS is typical all boy - loves the monorail more than pretty much anything at Disney. The first and last thing we always do is a monorail ride. He came up with the idea, DW was able to pull it off. While most guests were scratching their heads, he got a lot of attention from CMs (and gobs of candy). Pretty much treated like royalty on the monorail too. :-) Thanks for following along and letting me share!

That outfit is totally adorable. Glad he had fun! :goodvibes

@GADisneyDad14 great pictures, and thanks for posting a review. I feel similarly about CR CL -- always love it while there, though not one of our go-to resorts, but THE best place to stay while doing MNSSHP with little ones. Used to be my favorite time of year to go to WDW too. We'd pack the girls' PJ's in our stroller and stay at the party until they were about to zonk out, then we'd put their PJ's on and recline the stroller seats and out they went. DH and I would stay a bit longer just to walk around and take it all in while the girls slept. Then what could be easier than just walking back to CR?! Miss those days! So I love living them again through your eyes. Someday we'll get back there in the fall.

About the CL part -- we're similar to you as we're also very low maintenance CL guests. I'm a detailed planner and enjoy doing everything myself, so I rarely have need for desk CM's. I love the room-ready text and going straight to our room, so whatever is going on with CL check-in's really doesn't affect me. Though I will say that during our RPC stay when a CM brought our luggage up to our room, he was one of the best CM's we've dealt with because he stayed to talk to us about the GF in general, our room, the CL perks, etc. He was so kind and soft-spoken. We could tell he was staying to talk with us because he wanted to, not because he was simply "doing his job." Wish I would've seen his name tag. He was a staple there, though, as I saw him everyday when we walked in and out of the GF.

CL food - I agree 100%. We're generally happy with whatever they put out, but we do look forward to BC and GF stays due to the larger selection and variety. We tried staying non-CL for part of our trip last Easter, and it was a good test because we learned that we won't enjoy the stay as much without the CL! It's a big part of our trip. Again, thanks for posting -- and LOVE your son's costume!

You've got to share your DS pixie dust moment!!! I love to hear them! I know some of us are hesitant to share so others don't "expect" things when staying at Disney but I ENJOY to hear about it!!!

That is a great costume.

@GADisneyDad14 - that was a great review about the CR CL. I pretty much would have the same review. As I figured we were in the same room. We had 4843 and 4844 and when we checked into 4843 - the tall lamp in the corner had no shade and the phone in the other room was dead. It took a day to get a new phone and 3 days to get a lamp shade. The missing lamp shade was shocking for the CR - the bulb was blinding when on and no shade.

We had the same feeling about the CMs - they were the nicest we have seen in a while. There also was a manager out in the lounge clearing tables and asking if we were okay almost every day we were there.

I agree about the pool. We did a split stay with the Poly CL - so we can enjoy the pool before we went to the CR. We would stay longer also if they had a good pool.

We absolutely loved the view and it never got old to us too. Thanks!

We love bay lake view when staying CL at CR as you get both views as lounge faces MK. The sunrises over bay like are incredible and seeing the electrical water pageant is always a delight!

Hi all. We are staying AKL club from 20 Oct. I am unsure if I should do the online check in form and what I should request if we do complete the form? Any suggestions?
I think we still need to go to the desk as travelling from uk so have to collect Magic Band etc

Thanks! One thing I forgot to mention was, although you may be a little farther down on a pod, I think it helps your room view if you are a little bit, so that the Arusha rock area isn't obstructing your view.

Thanks for the tip. We don't mind having a little more walking to do, so being further down wouldn't bother us :).

Thanks for your detailed and honest review, as well as the great pics. Glad you had a great time :wizard:.

What is "RPC" and "IPO"?

RPC is the abbreviation for "Royal Palm Club" which is one of two Grand Floridian Club Level options (the other being Sugarloaf, or SL). All of the rooms in the main Grand Floridian building are "Royal Palm Club" Club Level rooms.

IPO stands for "Itinerary Planning Office." They are dedicated Cast Members for Club Level guests that can assist with concierge type functions such as making dining reservations, room requests, etc. When you book a CL reservation you have access (via phone or e-mail) to the "IPO" for any pre-planning needs you may have.

Hope that helps.
