Resort Thread Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH Resort

I just went back and spoke to manager she once again states that I received the email in error and that they will not compensate me any further that she doesn't believe other people received the room credit and the gift card that "I can't believe everything you read online. That it was an either or and that I have already been credited on the room and that they won't speak to me further on that matter.

@CanadianMouseDad just checked in this morning and was able to receive both forms of compensation with no issues at all. If I were still there, I would gladly go to the front desk and help you as one of the guests who received both.

I've got a non-construction or gift card question so hopefully that is still allowed these days :-)

We are booked at CBR from 3-11 November. We got a great room only rate and booked when the gift cards were being given out so we're happy on that front. However, the only room we could get was a Pirate room which I have less than zero interest in staying in. I've been stalking the disney site hoping another room type would eventually open up, but no luck thus far. This morning I was wondering if a particular date of our trip was causing the issue so I started to play around with the dates. Basically every room category is available for 3-9 November and if I look individually (but not together) for 9-10 November and 10-11 November there is quite a bit of non pirate options too, including a standard room. So my question why can I can see a standard room available for the entire length of my trip independently, but if I look to make a single reservation for the entire data range it shows no availability?

Definitely call and explain the situation. If the first cast member tells you there is nothing they can do, ask to speak to guest services. They SHOULD be able to help you. They were able to help me last week in a similar situation where all of my dates were showing as available but not together. It took about three minutes once GS came on. Good luck!

Wow, that is terrible. I wonder if anyone that has checked in recently and received both remembers the name of the person they dealt with at check-in and can pass the name along to you on here. It sounds like some cast members are better than others at handling this situation and maybe you'd have better luck if you spoke with a cast member that's already provided the gift card to someone who also had the room credit.

This is a great idea. If I am remembering correctly the Cast Members I spoke with upon check in on 4/22 were Mike and Cecelia. Mike initially checked us in and gave us our gift card and then later I went back to the front desk to request a room change and Cecelia helped me. She was so nice and helpful, even asking if I had received my gift card upon check in.

If they weren't going to honor both then they should have sent a follow up e-mail stating they are only offering the $75 off /night, and not the GC, or vice versa, or something along those lines. I know someone could always say they never got the 2nd e-mail but in that case CBR/Disney has done their due diligence to communicate what the compensation would or would not be.

I was only ever offered the GC. I did have to call to drop our last night, and they assured me I would still get the GC's... I will wait & see.

I spoke to the manager Maddie she stated that "nobody" was getting both the discount and the gift card. Which I know is not true she was very firm that this was an "error" and she apologized but that Disney was NOT going to do anything for me and that construction was not even going to start until May 8th.
This has been an utterly defeating ordeal. I am just going to try to enjoy the rest of my trip and be present in the moment with my family. We probably will never return to Disney after this bait and switch and I kinda feel that I am stuck in this situation and now have less $$ on this vacation than I had budgeted for. But I am just going to deal with this when I get home.
Thank you for all of your suggestions, and support. I wish you all the best of luck in your process.

I am so very sorry that your family vacation started so poorly and that you were treated so unfairly. I wish you the very best and hope you have a great vacation despite its bad start.

Interested to know how many people, and when, Disney offered both a $75 discount on the room AND a $75 gift card. Seems really odd that both would be given at the same time.

Our travel agent got us a room discount of 75 on 2/24 then they emailed us stating we would give us a 25 gc upon check in. Then on 2/28 they sent us another email with our names and reservation # stating that they were now giving us a 75 gc upon check in. Now they are refusing.

For me it was during the first week of the construction announcement, they were changing offers daily, so much confusion.

I called on Friday Feb 24 th at about 10:30 am. I requested to be moved but was refused & only offered the $75 per night credit per room ( we have 2 bounceback a, one in my husbands name & 1 in mine, both same email, address & phone no.). I got email confirmations with the new rate the next day. On March 7th, Disney Destinations sent out emails discussing construction at Disneyland's Grand Californian resort. A few hours later, a corrected email arrived with the info on the gift card. I only recieved one of those emails . I didn't get one for my husbands reservation. However, the email says we will receive the gift card "for each room". So I expected one for each of our reservations.

I agree with the PP, Disney has had plenty of time to send corrections if those gift card emails were sent in error. They sent a correction within hours of the DL email.

@Ksweets656, I am so sorry you are getting such horrible customer service. If you are up to it, maybe you should send an email to the guest communications while you are still there. I don't have the exact email but so many people here have had good success with issues by emailing them. I'm sure a quick search will turn up the right email address. Let them know how upset you are that you planned for & expected that gift card now here you are at their property with less funds than you anticipated because of their error. Maybe you will get some quick help. I hope you can enjoy the rest of your trip.

That or the President, George K something or other. His email is floating around, I had it but can't find it now. I'm sure someone knows how to spell his last name. I had an issue I contacted him about last year and his office called me. It's been reported that he, or someone in his office, reads every email he gets. Worth copying him on any emails you send and forwarding the emails you have gotten and they are now not honoring

I booked on the last day they where offering the gift cards. I got a Florida resident rate or AP rate of 172 for May 12th. Was I also suppose to get a 75 dollar discount as well ???? It sounds like some people here are paying about 20 bucks a night which is by far the lowest price I have ever seen but I don't remember being offered an additional discount just the gift card

No. When there was confusion about what, if any, offers they were extending they did both, $75 a night and a gift card, amounts varied. Plus there were others things offered. When the dust settled they went with $75 gift card, plus whatever "promo" rate was applicable at the time.

Im dreading checking in now as I know my husband is going to rip them a new one...

The "why" has to do with the number of people checking in/out on 9 November. You can check in to a room that is being vacated on the 9th but that same room would not be available on the 8th and an undetermined amount of days before. Hard to explain and clear as mud, I know, but hopefully this sheds a little light.

I can't answer the "why" part of your question but this very thing has happened to me before. I encourage you to contact Guests Services and ask them to switch you to a standard room since it is showing availability on your dates. I did this before and was successful :)

Thanks to you all. Still muddy but I'll call GS to see if we can figure something out

I wonder how all of this gift card stuff is going to work come June...my TA got us the 75.00 refund for every night and promised 25.00 in gift cards a night. Two days later we got an email for the 75.00 gift card every night....not sure what will happen... Are there reports of people getting the gift cards and the original 75.00 a night.... maybe I'll have to not bank on getting the gift cards and adjust the budget...
