So back to my original question...does anyone know where I can find a list of what room types are available in what buildings?

I'll go back to my original answer. There are water view rooms in every single building at CBR. :thumbsup2

This might help. The following are rooms you can book and where they are located. If building number is not specified, they are all the buildings.

Standard View - Martinique 21, 22, 23, Barbados, Aruba, Jamaica
King Bed - Martinique, Trinidad North, Jamaica, Aruba, Barbados
Water or Pool View - Martinique, Trinidad North, Trinidad South, Jamaica, Aruba, Barbados
Preferred Room - Martinique 24 25 26, Trinidad North
Pirate Standard View - Trinidad South
Pirate Water View - Trinidad South

Basically, the fact that you booked a water view room means they can put you in any section of the resort, and you will get your water view. Your request wasn't a waste, because I'm sure if they have the availability to put you in a water view room at your requested Trinidad North they will, but obviously those rooms go to the people who booked preferred first.

Thanks! Some of the other posts made it sound like a request for Trinidad North was not going to happen in lieu of an upgrade, since every single room in those buildings is (supposedly) a "Preferred" room. I think there may be a difference between "Preferred building" and "building with nothing but Preferred rooms", which is why I'm so confused :)

I wouldn't be terribly upset if we end up in Aruba or Jamaica, but would like to be by the main pool, if possible. I didn't want to be wasting a building request if there was next to no chance we'd be getting it.
That said, I'm sure we'll be calling CBR closer to our arrival, and possibly even asking for a room switch after having one assigned to us, but that's just how we roll ;)

GREAT explanation. Thanks!

From the sound of it, "Preferred" and "Water View" aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, but Preferred is higher up the chain. In other words, if the last room left in Trinidad North is a Preferred room that is technically also a Water View room, someone paying for a Preferred room will get it before we do. But that does not mean we have little or no chance of getting into a room at Trinidad North. However, someone paying for Preferred would never get placed in a Water View in Aruba or Jamaica.

Starting to get it now :)

You're welcome. There is no difference, every room in Trinidad North and in Martinique 24, 25 and 26 are preferred. Some of them just happen to have a water view. So getting your request of Trinidad North is considered an upgrade. I have spoken to a couple of room assigners in the past and they all suggested that when it comes to Preferred vs. Water View book the one you absolutely must have and request the other.

There is no way to call any of the resorts directly. Your best bet is to call the Reservations Line and have your room requests added to your reservation. This can be done any time from the moment you book up until 4-5 days prior to your arrival. All rooms are assigned 2-3 days out so make sure your requests are noted prior to then. Once the reservations are sent to the resort for assignment, the Reservation Line CMs cannot access them. There is a section for room requests during online check in but they are predetermined and limited. So they might not meet your needs so I always call and recommend the same. Our requests are Jamaica 45 and 2nd floor. Requesting a building and 2nd floor are not options during online check in.

Maybe booking a preferred room instead of a water view room would work best for you from what im understanding.

No, we're still sticking with Water View. We'd rather be in Aruba facing the lake than Trinidad North facing the parking lot.

Thanks for your help!

Exactly! :)

Is this a new policy? I'd all but swear I talked to someone at Coronado last year when requesting the Cabanas.

They may say they're at the resrot, but its really just a main hub most of the time.

No it's not. The numbers you can find via google, etc all route to a Central Call Center not even on property. And if you dialed the number for Coronado the CM would answer like you called Coronado and is supposed to do everything they can to make you think you are talking to someone actually at the resort. Even when you hit the "Front Desk" button on the phone in your room you are talking to someone at the Call Center. That is why you will see people all over the DIS telling people to "go down to" the Front Desk when there is an issue.

Thanks for killing the Disney Magic (tm) for me, jerk ;)

Remind me not to ask you how Mickey can be at Epcot and MK at the same time.

Sorry. I've just seen too many people have unrealistic expectations because they think they're talking to someone at their resort.

I greatly appreciate all the info you and others have given me this morning. Including the resort phone expose :) I will take an uncomfortable truth over a nice-sounding lie any day!

Of course, now I will have the inner debate of whether or not I switch the building request to Aruba or Jamaica, to lessen the odds we get Trinidad South or Barbados, but I won't bother you with that conflict :)

We met Mickey last year at the Disney Visa photo spot, then again over in the main Character Spot immediately after. But then again, he IS a magician, albeit not a great one.

We just booked 3 nights at Caribbean Beach we have never stayed at this resort before, the perferred room was $50 a night extra. Is it worth that?

That's how I feel too.

Your odds of getting put in Trinidad South is next to zero. Trinidad South is 100% Pirate Rooms. That is why there is a separate booking category for Water View Pirate Theme room. We have been in Barbados and really enjoyed it. It's a very peaceful location. The walk is a bit longer than Jamaica or Aruba, but it didn't deter us from heading to the main pool or OPR at all.

Yes, he is a Sorcerer for sure.

Don't know, but I CAN tell you that you could end up getting a Water View room in Trinidad North or Martinique that is also a Preferred room :)

If proximity to OPR and the main pool are important to you, I'd say it's worth it.

Stole this from a Pop Century website:

Pros: Consider paying for the preferred room if...
  • Someone in your party has mobility problems. While the pathways around the resort are smooth and even, the trek can be long to the bus stops and food court when you're using crutches, a walker, etc.
  • You spend a lot of time at the hotel during your stay. Usually, people who include several days of relaxing at the resort in their vacation plans will benefit from being close to dining and the main pool -- especially if you're continually filling your refillable resort mugs!
Cons: Stick with the regular room if...
  • You don't spend that much time at the resort hotel. Those who are off in the theme parks all day long and only use the room to sleep have no need to be ultra close to amenities. Use the extra money in the parks.
  • You exercise regularly. If you're going to get up and go for a run every morning, why spend extra money just to save yourself a little walking later in the day?
  • You prefer a different section of the resort.

Worth is very subjective so it's hard to answer that for you. I can say that to us, the extra $$ for preferred is not worth it at any resort.

Cool! Glad to hear it. I'm used to making daily walks from the Cabanas near the Dig Site to El Centro in the morning when we stay at CSR, and the longer walk is often more enjoyable. I'm getting really excited to try out CBR, and everyone on here has been extremely helpful.
