Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

Today was Epcot and YS tonight. But in between we had some sit by the pool time! Cheers to my... Boardwalkies? Errr.... Boardwalkers? Peeps!
]

Great pictures again. Let's stay away from walkers - that is the term used in "The Walking Dead". I don't want to think of the Boardwalk covered in zombies.

From today's AllEars newsletter:

Disney Parks Blog has released more details about the backstory of Trattoria al Forno on Disney's BoardWalk, which is slated to open December 18. Located on the site of the former Kouzzina restaurant, the Trattoria's story begins with an Italian family that ran a modest tavern and boarding house on the boardwalk, which expanded over the years into a popular restaurant. The new restaurant is arranged as a series of separate rooms, starting with the original Entrata, or entrance. The first room, the Cucina, is designed as the eat-in kitchen for the boarding house guests. Next is the Sala da Pranzo, the formal dining room, which showcases the family's fine silver, glassware and eclectic china in a grand hutch, with two crystal chandeliers above in the vaulted ceiling. This leads into Salotto, or the living room, of the old boarding house, now a dining area with tufted circular booths and upholstered chairs, and photos of vintage Italian market scenes decorating the walls. Finally, the Taverna is a secluded dining area located in the structure's original tavern, where the mirrored back bar still hangs in front of exposed brick walls.

bweeps? beeps? ;)
as much as I despise cold (under 70 degrees & i'm shivering under layers of clothing), your trip looks & sounds amazing :cloud9:
have fun!

Thanks! I do like Bweeps, too. Pretty funny ring to it. :thumbsup2

I don't know what the problem was with parking. At the entrance, it was crazy with people checking or leaving. And for some reason they blocked off part of the area when you leave to turn back to go park, making it hard for vehicles to turn in the small space left. I have no clue about all the blocked off parking. We were checking in and couldn't park anywhere but the far distance back area. That's just crazy. There were whole areas up front that were blocked off as reserved but not full of vehicles. I think if a person in staying at the Boardwalk, they shouldn't be pushed to the back lot. Just my opinion. Unless Disney's trying to frustrate people into using the valet. Lol. All kidding aside, I told my husband when we check out, he's going to have to make that trek all by himself. We will be waiting in the front.

I think AirGoofy hit it on the head. It was Sunday. Folks swarm to ESPN. We can see it from our balcony, and I think it was before noon and we saw the line to get in going really far back. We were also happy we got in on Friday, since Thursday night they had the College Football awards at Atlantic Dance, and they invited all the guests to see them walk the "red carpet." It would be really cool for college football fans, but we're really not, and I'm sure it was a madhouse.

I so wish I had photoshop handy right now! :rolleyes1

Very nice and HAPPY (first meeting) ANNIVERSARY MR. AND MRS. PSAC!

We've felt the same way about MM (not Mickey Mouse!) It's underwhelming there with meh service and meh food. Now, Brown Derby on the other hand is a must-do every trip:thumbsup2

Great seeing the new signage which I will have to put in the DINING section of the thread soon:thumbsup2. When is dinner there?

Thanks! We had two or three great meals at BD, but then the last one two years ago was super-bad. After MM this time, we agreed we would give BD a try again next year.

Also speaking of the good and bad list, the last two times we ate at Flying Fish, we weren't too happy with it. This after four or five great meals there. We had an ADR for tonight, and kept thinking about cancelling and going somewhere else. We ended up keeping it just for convenience. We were very glad we did. It was REALLY good again.

But, last night we did Yachtsman's. And unless we get shockingly blown away by Trattoria on Thursday (opening night!), YS will be the best meal of the trip three trips in a row. It was just stellar.

Not the best angle. This was Saturday and they still had painters tape up, and it looks like one door painted and the other not.

As AirGoofy asked about:

Name that movie! :santa: I'm sure that's a hard one. hehehehehe

I do wish there was a way that members could get dedicated parking, but that would require Disney to verify transportation. Plus, ESPN makes lots of money off football, which is somehow owned by Disney.

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

Thanks. I've enjoyed the watching the movies on green space and glad to see it still there with the Christmas tree. As for that movie, you really need to Let it Go......Let it go.......:lmao:

We got back from our super short, super fun weekend getaway on Sunday. 2 1/2 days at Disney is really just more of tease than anything else. Loved the BW and took my fair share of pics that I wanted to post for you all.

Our Room:

Pool View

Our balcony was the one right under the arch on the left side. A little obtrusive, but did not spend much time out there because it was pretty chilly at night and in the morning.

Stumbled across this after we walked around the lake. Knew the College Football Awards were that night, but didnt know they were on the Boardwalk. Kept seeing people all day in College fb gear, but didnt really think anything about it. Lots of security around and this was a good 4 hours before the show started. Not sure what time the athletes got there, but people were starting to line up by the red carpet already.

Had some fun with the Color Splash app on the flight home

Also came across this group caroling.

Ummm........Little Red Riding Hood??

Just Kidding!! Practically everyone in the world must recognize that movie by now!! At least everyone with children!

What a great CASH COW Frozen has been for Disney!! Everything that I have purchased for my 2 granddaughters for Christmas is Frozen themed!!!

Just changed our ressies from the BC to the BWI. We have deluxe CL rooms booked that I understand are BW view rooms? Do these rooms all have balconies? A balcony is very important for us this trip because we are celebrating our 45th anniversary and expect to be spending a fair amount of down time at the resort enjoying our balcony and CL amenities.

Are there any room requests that would be a good idea to add to our reservation? I have knee issues and DH has some hip problems. If possible we would prefer to have rooms as close as possible to the lounge and elevators to reduce long walks along meandering corridors. Is that possible? I don't want to request something that doesn't exist.

We are pretty excited to be staying in BWI CL with a BW view! DH has never stayed here before and I believe that he is going to LOVE the BWI!! I have been, but only with a standard room and it was a long time ago now. WE have looked at the pics at the beginning of this thread and the renovations look awesome!

Any tips or recommendations are greatly appreciated!!

Nice to meet you all!

From DVCNews.com:

Disney's BoardWalk Villas will undergo a soft goods refurbishment in 2015 "with some hard goods elements." Specifically, the fold-down 5th sleeper is also being added to BoardWalk Studio villas. No date was specified for the BoardWalk renovation start.

There is also a quick concept picture in the link, it shows a small picture of the studio and new hallway paint and carpeting that looks like it still keeps the roller coaster/Ferris wheel theme.

Yeah, and ESPN is actually the largest source of Disney revenue, more than the parks, movies, etc. quite amazing.

Nice to meet you all!

The biggest tip for the Deluxe Club rooms for you is to request 4th floor. Half are on the third floor, and half are on the fourth floor, but the lounge is on the fourth floor. Generally people walk the stairs from the 3rd to 4th, but if you can't do that it will be tough to go all the way to the elevators. I would request 4th and ask them to note mobility issues. Otherwise they all have balconies! :thumbsup2. They are great rooms, a lot of space. Happy 45th!

From two nights ago. A little bit of the mickey Xmas party fireworks over the buildings.

Illuminations.

Speaking of ESPN, last night we ate there for dinner. Good burgers, which is just what we were in the mood for. Not really a game night, so it wasn't super crowded, which was good. Service was fine, our waitress was friendly. The bill was pricey for burgers and chicken bites, but super cheap compared to our signature dinners!! :thumbsup2

Today after an Epcot morning, we went to Seashore Sweets for some ice cream, my wife ordered two scoops, and it was literally five or six. One of the biggest bowls of ice cream we've ever had. So we just ended up sharing instead of me getting my own. Of course I had to have her flavors, but I survived! Now we're off to sit by the pool for a bit! :cool2:

I think it's so neat that you'll be there tonight - opening night! They should give the opening night guests something special like commemorative bibs or finger bowls to take home…Great to hear that YS is still fabulous.

That was sweet of you to post all those photos - nice editing:thumbsup2

Welcome to the thread and congratulations on your epic anniversary:love:

All the Deluxe rooms have BWVs and balconies. Make sure that your anniversary is noted in your reservation. Just email the IPO and let them know what your location preference is and they will make a note in your reservation along with noting your anniversary. Then, don't forget to wear those buttons everywhere you go;)

Thank you for posting the breaking news, psac. Looks like they are going the way of the VWL rehab. The concept drawings look very clean and modern. I think that BWV is long overdo for some updating so this is good news. Interesting that BLT is listed in the article as getting rehabbed in 2017. I believe that would put it at about 8 years for its first rehab? This seems to be the length of time between DVC rehabs.

Yep, LOVING our Disney stock, too and hoping it splits soon:hyper:. Good DR tips:thumbsup2

Very nice photos and I think I can make out an ear? You can never have too much ice cream, I like to say. Of course, I've never tried the Kitchen Sink.

That's good to hear. I never understood why the 1 BR would only sleep the same # as the studios. Still just 1 bathroom though.

!

I do have that 1 share of Disney stock certificate in its frame. :lmao:
Seriously, I one of the mutual funds in my 401K has Disney and it has been doing well.

Great pictures. And, I agree with you about ESPN. DW and I enjoy bar food and ESPN fits the bill. We enjoy a pitcher of Yuengling draft beer (although I drink more of it) but they did take some of the food I liked off the menu. It's one of our regulars.

If I am reading it right though, now the studio will sleep more than the 1 Bedroom??

Question about the coffee pots here - are they pod/keurig style or should I bring filters & ground?

At BWV, you will have a 10-12 cup Mr Coffee style coffee maker. You need to provide your own filters and coffee, but you will get a single filtered pouch of coffee each service day.

We will request 4th floor. Good to know.

Great information. I am wondering about scooters, but prefr to try to walk it if we can. When I have had to have thes in the past I found them an asset, but one that I would rather not HAVE to take advantage of!

Is it better to note requests on the room ressie with CRO or call the CL CM?

Thank you!

Question about the coffee pots here - are they pod/keurig style or should I bring filters & ground?

The Inn has your standard hotel coffee maker with the filter pouch. We never used it last week because we were Club level, and we also noted there was no electrical outlet anywhere near it!
