Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

OK...after changing my resort reservation 3 times we have finally decided to stay at the BWI for our 25th Anniversary Food and Wine Fest weekend Oct 16-19!! :) Very excited as this will be our first stay at BWI :)

I think you're going to love BWI! It has the ideal location and great atmosphere for an anniversary vacation!

Hey Guys,
only 5 weeks till me and DF's Disneymoon! (and DF's first trip and my first trip to Disney since I was a kid!)
quick question, I have seen some photo's of a few rooms around the boardwalk inn/ villas that are just small quiet lounge type rooms, I know one of them, the Attic is no longer open, but there was at least 1 more I saw that looked like a room somewhere off the beaten track that was open to guests who knew where it was. I am not talking about THE lounge where the bar is etc, but a different room. Does anyone know what I am talking about? have i just made this up in my head? If it does exist, is it still open? if so, where is it? Just wondering about some different places to hang out and explore while we are there (don't worry, we will be well behaved! ;-))
thanks guys!

There is a vey nice "sitting area" right next to the elevators on the 4th floor on the Inn side. There is a large sofa with a view towards the garden suites and quiet pool.
Have a great time on your visit.

You're welcome Blue. I love the bakery pastries. :cloud9:

Me again, sorry for all the questions! Has anyone tried using an Apple TV box in the villas? we were hoping to stream Netflix but I have heard reports that some TV's are not compatible and some resorts wifi are too slow for streaming. thoughts?
Thanks again!

  • Disney's Boardwalk Resort - ESPN Club to be closed for lunch 8/5-8/9 due to maintenance issues. Dinner service will begin at 4:30pm.
  • Flying Fish Cafe will be closed from Feb 2016 through Fall of 2016. A renovated dining room and new kitchen area will be part of the remodel.

Wow, that's a long refurb for Flying Fish. I liked the whimsical atmosphere, it'll be interesting to see what they do with it. Some of the food has been inconsistent at times, maybe the new kitchen will help.

I SO don't want to be that person, so if I missed this info somewhere, I apologize! We are considering booking a 2 bedroom villa as a cash reservation for next summer. I know the battle of trying to book cash through CRO because we did so two years ago at BLT. I even started a thread about how to successfully do so ;) My question is this; I see that the 2 bedrooms are all a 1 bedroom and studio connected, no dedicated 2 bedrooms, right? On the map it looks like many of these are Boardwalk view. Is this a booking category, or merely a request? We prefer to choose places in which we can book our preferred view and not roll the dice ;) Thanks for any help you can provide!

All two bedroom villas at BWV are lockoffs - combination of a studio (one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa) and a one bedroom. Boardwalk view is a booking category for DVC points stays only. You will probably get a pool/garden view with a two bedroom villa for cash through DRC. You won't get a BW view for cash. Even DVC members don't get a BW view for cash through DVC.

Well that's a total bummer, but thank you so much for the quick response! Our BWI stay a few years ago ranks as my mom's and husband's favorite, so we were hoping to re-visit! Back to the drawing board :)

It might be worth the stress of "renting points" if you'd really like the 2 bedroom Boardwalk view Villa. I say stress because there's drawbacks to renting. Check out the DVC board - I think it's the Resort board, but there's stickies on all of them with links to various posts. DVC Mike has recently (within the last couple of weeks) put together a really decent explanation of renting points, the pros and cons and the things to consider (like the timing of your request.) Besides probably saving you money, it *would* get you the room and view you want.

So (maybe this is in the DVC stickie which I'm going to go check out now,) would it actually save money over a public or AP discount? We booked at BLT with cash last year and saved a TON with a PIN code!

FFC was one of the main reasons why we booked to stay here next year. I think it's very poor practice by Disney to not announce updates/closures before selling holidays. I booked a holiday at a resort that included a deluxe dining option, and I won't have one on my visit.

Just a quick question, to anyone in the know.

Was just wondering how the renovations are going with the studios? If they almost done, or mostly done, or how this affecting your stay while there?

I'm sorry, I don't know. It depends on so many factors as to how much it would cost that it would be impossible to judge. Add to that the fact that I've owned Boardwalk DVC for 17 years now and haven't paid cash in that time, so I've no idea what 'normal' costs are to begin with! :-)

Good luck. I know there are lots of people that swear they save money by renting from an owner. With you wanting a specific room type and view, I think it's worth checking out, is all. Just pay attention to all of the details - the DVC program is confusing even to those of us that have owned for a while. Make sure you notice the dates - it's my understanding that the 'classification' or what-have-you that DVC goes by in terms of seasons is rather different than normal. What may be a cheap or expensive season for cash is often an expensive or cheap season for DVC. And, of course, there are the drawbacks - no free dining, no daily cleaning (unless you pay extra), usually no cancellations or changes allowed, etc. So take those into account when you make your comparisons as to cost.

We've very excited here...we paid off our Fall trip using my Disney Vacation Account - now to see how long it takes for those $20 bonus cards to arrive...has anyone else used this? Seems like a really great deal to me. I know that there is a whole Dis-thread on the DVA, but just thought I'd bring it up here in case someone else has experience with it.

Woo Hoo ----- 74 days until our first BWI and Club Level trip! :yay::yay:

Congratulations!!

You can stop changing now because I'm going to add your dates to the BoardWalk Bulletin:thumbsup2

No apologies here for asking questions. I don't have a close-up photo of the BWI TV, but here is a close-up of the CR TV inputs. I took it in April and I would assume they're the same:

You're right that does seem like a long time and it's not even a total re-do like TaF was.

Since FF is a Signature Dining venue that requires two TS credits, I assume you want to replace it with another 2TS near BWI? I would highly recommend Yachtsman Steakhouse at the YC. It's only about a 5-10 minute walk from FF and it's currently our favorite Signature Dining location. Ask for Bill:)

Thank you so much! It's definitely something to look into, and I appreciating you noting all the factors there are to consider. I wouldn't have realized the "seasons" were different.
