Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

We just booked a last minute Christmas trip at BWV! We just stayed at AKV, they had so many activities around the resort. Are there any, besides the normal pool stuff and smores, at the Boardwalk. We actually stayed here in January, but i don't really remember anything. Maybe they do some extras for christmas? We'll be there the 17th, leaving the 24th. Just want to have some back up plans when parks get too crowded. Thanks and looking forward to being back at the Boardwalk!

Just a couple of questions: In early December I will have a one bedroom Boardwalk Villa. It is my ultimate favorite room. Have these rooms been recently renovated? If I try to get the top floor, will I be disturbed with people working on the roof right above me? Will I be able to peacefully take an afternoon nap?

Also .... How late can I use the pool ? I really, REALLY, love to use the pool right before bedtime, it helps me relax and wind down from a busy day in the parks. However, last time I was there, 2 years ago, the pool closed at 9 pm, and I only got 5 minutes in the pool. I was not able to use the pool for my entire vacation unless I got back from the parks extra early. Do you think I might be able to use the pool around 11 pm?

Thanks In Advance !

Yes the rooms are recently renovated. I believe the only wifi going on now is on the exterior, not the roof.

The pool now has a fence around it with gate access that will be locked when the pool is closed.

Is that the case with the quiet pools, too? I see that fencing was put up, but I wasn't aware that the quiet pool fencing was being locked. I, too, like a later swim and soak in the spa.

We will be staying here next month and I have a few questions about the refillable mugs.

1. Besides the Boardwalk Bakery, where else can we fill our mugs up at?
2. Do they have root beer at any of these locations? My son really only likes root beer and he was disappointed last year when we stayed at CBR because their food court did not have root beer.
3. We decided to add a night to our trip so we will be at POFQ our first night. If we buy our mugs there, will they only be good for one night or will they work at BW too?

Thanks!

1. I can't remember the name of the place...but there's basically a lounge area inside the hotel side of the resort, coffee is out and the "bar tender" can refill your mug for you.
2. Not sure...
3. I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure you'll need to wait. The mugs are good for length of stay, and your first reservation is just the one day. So it would be good only for the length of that first stay.

1. From post #11 of this thread -

DRINK REFILLS are available at BoardWalk Bakery, The BoardWalk Pizza Window, Leaping Horse Libations. Coffee, Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite refills are available at Belle Vue Lounge. Thank you to ChristianR for the location update.''

2. According to the picture in post #11, and according to our last stay here 2 year ago, yes.

3. They will work for 14 days from the date of purchase at every WDW owned resort.

Actually they are defaulted to 14 days from the day of purchase. The Rapid Refill System does not know how long your stay actually is.

And if your stay is for longer than 14 days, if you bring your receipt and confirmation number with you on day 15 they will activate it for another 14 days.

Thank you so much for this info!

Hi there! My family and I are so excited for our upcoming trip to WDW and our 1st stay at BWI. We have a standard room for our family of 5 (2 queen beds and a daybed). I have 3 children, one who has special needs. Can anyone help me decide whether I should try and request a room in advance or wait and see if there is any "Disney Magic" upon check-in? I am not familiar with this resort, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks so much!!

The BIG question is coming up soon. I hope everything goes as planned.

A popular Standard View request is an "Epcot view, 5th floor." This does overlook the quiet pool and garden area as another poster described. Don't forget to mention your proposal when you fax or if you call have it added to your reservation and if you can, mention it again at check-in.

Please update us after your proposal if you can!

It'll be fun trying a new resort! The nice thing about BWI is that almost all the rooms (except maybe a couple) have balconies and a Standard View room can be any view, except a BWV. It's also nice that the gym doesn't share with another resort like Ship Shape does. But, you're close enough to BC/YC to stroll over if you want a bite to eat.

Are you trying any new places to eat and have you booked YS?

Yes, we booked YS! We were iffy since they changed the executive chef, but my in-laws stayed at the BW last month, and they ate there, and said it was fantastic. So that reinforced our decision to eat there. :). We are doing some different meals at places we've tried before, like CRT lunch (only have done breakfast), and Garden Grill breakfast (only dinner looooong ago.). Also Chefs De France we haven't eaten at in about 5 years. And we're excited to try the new Flying Fish menu!!!

I saw this CL/IPO thread HERE, which led me to this FB post which nicely summarizes some IPO changes:

That's awful. We never really used the IPO, but I know a lot of people do. (Actually, the one time we tried, they were useless, but I don't remember which resort that was at.). That's still a bad change in my opinion, considering the price of club level. Oh well.

Like Gometros said, yes, they were renovated last year. They did a great job on them. The only thing we found a little odd was the hardwood floors in the living room. It's probably more sanitary, but a little less warm. But they were brand new when we went last year. They might be a little worn in now, but in a good way. :)

Regarding the pools, someone said the fences were up around all the pools, but the locks weren't installed yet. I don't know when they'll have it done. In general all of the WDW resort pools are getting locked up in the evenings after a child drowned unattended a couple of years ago. It's been a slow roll out to all the resorts.

Don't forget the entertainers outside in the evening! That's the big thing. They have a gingerbread stand in the lobby, but it's not really an activity. Of course there's the movies. I think in general they load up AKL with extra activities since it's the Deluxe with a locational disadvantage (only busses to all the parks.)

What do the BWV standard studios have, if anything, in the way of cups, plates, utensils etc? Thanks!

We stayed on the Villa side about a week ago, and I am wondering if anyone has any info on what model the TV is.

We are in the market for a new TV and this TV was glorious. I know it was a Samsung, but wasn't sure if anyone had details.

I'm going down soon and can check for you if no one else has the answer.

How was the outside refurb going? Are they still painting? Thanks!

I was going to do online check-in (staying BWV 1 Bedroom Standard View), but I have some questions.

Regarding room request it shows; 'near lobby' and 'near elevators' as options. Aren't both of those the same thing? Other than that it asked about floor.. I guess I'll ask for a high floor. Should I ask online or request via fax or phone? (and if the latter two, recommendations?)

It also talked about a 'pin'. Is that the pin that goes on the magic band for purchases? It didn't give me an option so I'm guessing the system is just defaulting to whatever pin I picked last trip a couple of years back? (now I got to remember the darn number.. lol).

Thanks

They weren't doing much painting that I could tell, but they were replacing awnings.

The worst though was by the pool, they were jackhammering up the concrete, and it was SO loud.

Thank you for the response. Longest refurb EVER! Hope it wasn't too disruptive for you. We have a very early flight and was hoping to have the family take a nap by the pool if the room isn't ready. May have to rethink that!

The options for online check in aren't the best. I've heard the standard villas near the elevator are close to ME so you want to request a high floor. Near lobby might mean lobby (ground floor), near elevators mean closer to the elevators on the higher floors. I have also heard that the standard views overlooking the bus stop area have trees that are quite high so if that matters, a lower floor might be a better bet.

I use touring plans room view and because I subscribe, they will fax the room request. I've never tried that before. All requests are just that, and not guaranteed. I suggest you call to confirm as your trip gets closer.

You should be able to click show details on the online check in page and then edit your pin. If you use your MB for charging, you will be asked to enter your pin. If you have a problem online, stop at the front desk and they will change it for you.

HTH.

I have stayed in the studios many times. They provide paper plates and paper bowls and individually wrapped plastic knives, forks and spoons. If I remember correctly, there was also a corkscrew in the tray with the silverware. There were also coffee mugs and some small glass drinking glasses. I always stay on cash, not points, and have not had a problem getting additional plates, bowls or silverware when I needed it.

ETA - I think there was a manual can opener as well.

I had asked concierge when we stayed there shortly after the renovations. He was going to check and get back to me, but never did. I ended up buying a Samsung 50" smart TV based on how much I liked the one in our room.

They used to have only LG, which we loved. My BFF, Mom, & I all have LG now because of Disney. (Talk about product placement!)
