Disney's Best Kept Secret on the Travel Channel showed the new Bay Lake Tower rooms (and other things).

If you are reading this before 12:00pm East Coast time (11pm here in Chicagoland)... It is going to replay.

:thumbsup2

DH and I watched about 5 minutes of it. We felt it was an infomercial, not a travel show, and not much different than their DVD they send out for sales. Just our opinion.....and we're already DVC members....

Yea, I wasn't crazy about it either. They really covered a lot of "non-WDW" things you can do with your points. Funny that using your points for those types of things really isn't a very good value. They never explained the point system or the home resort thing at all either. Wonder if there are major restrictions on how much they can really talk about the details. Ohh..and the "BLT" rooms are really U-G-L-Y.

I completely agree!!! I kept saying the exact things to DH.

You guys need to read this thread on the DVC boards. Basically, EVERYONE was embarrassed that it was such an infomercial and saddened that the show spent so much time focusing on non-Disney-related travel. That isn't the reason to buy DVC and most owners understand that "other" travel is nice to do and possible, but not the easiest to arrange nor the best use of one's points.

So what do we all think about the Travel Channel special???

I've come to expect the Disney shows on Travel are glorified infomercials, but it's no less disappointing. Can you imagine how awful the podcast would be if Disney owned it? *shudder*

That would be a terribly mean April Fool's Day edition to record....

If it's such a secret...
Stop telling everybody about it! :rotfl2:

Time for a new slogan, Disney.

The show made it look effortless to use points to travel anywhere you want. Hm... DVC owners have told me it just ain't that easy.

I agree with everyone else. What an awful show! I was a bit embarrassed as a Disney fan, but it does seem that Disney gets their hands into these "travel shows" and turns them all into infomercials. They should have just shown that YouTube video of Dee Vee Cee on loop instead - would have been a better use of an hour! :lmao:

I find those Disney/Travel Channel shows to be sort of commercial-like, but I always have some fun with them. Not this one - pure propaganda. Solely for the uninformed Disney fan to get them "in the door." Anyone in the know knows that it was all very misleading.

Propaganda.

Oh, Lord !

And *that* thing is even worse...

Disney is really dropping the ball, here.

I know the Travel Channel shows are just infomercials in disguise, but they forgot the disguise part on the 'Best Kept Secret' edition. :sad2:

I agree, one big infomertial.

Really disapointing. I enjoy the shows from the "olden days" that were not done by WDW, rather a independent 3rd party. Like Samatha Browns Great Hotels.

I usually save these shows on my DVR to show my non-Disney side of the family. I was lucky to get throught it myself. Terrible. Needless to say it was deleted. I would be embarassed to show or recommend this to someone. Disney should be ashamed. :sad2:

DBF DVR'd it for me since I was at school on Thursday nite. We watched it on Saturday and the whole time we were thinking how it was one giant commercial for DVC. VERY disappointing. The only part we enjoyed watching was when they showed the scenes for AKL. We just stayed there in August and it brought back memories. Other than that - thumbs down :sad2:

I could say the same of most Disney propaganda, unfortunately. As much as I'd love to just be able to show my extended family Disney's planning DVDs, they're so cheesy and out of touch and lame that I think they might do more harm than good. Disney's marketing team needs an overhaul, I think.
