We'll be there also 6/1-6/6 (me dh and two dd's 7 & 5). We will be at POR from 5/28-6/1. I"m almost condsidering adding a few more nights to AKL but probably wouldn't be avaiable. Never stayed at AKL very excited I haven't told the kids yet. They've always liked it when visiting.

I actually called to try and get a schedule of kids activities they kind of read them over the phone to me and I wrote them down. But she said time and programs definately change. There's so many things to do there thats why I wanted to add more nights.

we just got back from AKL tuesday-- there are a lot of activities but most are during the day which we missed. here's a few and the hours while we were there (5/11 - 5/17) - these hours were consistent for the days we were there...

horticulture activities 9a
flamingo feedings 930am
animal tracking 11-130p
arts/ crafts noon
medallion rubbings 1230p
cookie decorating 1pm
african games & crafts 3pm
family pool games 4p
music of the savannah 5pm
african folktales 730p

we only got to do the folktales, which my 9 & 6 year old loved and my 6 y/o daughter did crafts one day.

:wizard: IMHO, you should try for AKL. If the nights are not available, then it's not meant to be, but if they are  :Pinkbounc  ...go for it! The kids are going to LOVE it there. How old are they? In the past, if the resort has had activities for my girls (12, 10, 6), then they end up bagging everything else to become resort bunnies! :rotfl:

Best Wishes and we'll see you there!!

I have AKL on the brain. Can't work :confused3 , Can't do anything but focus on how much fun we're gonna have  ....

We'll be at AKL 5/30 - 6/5. You'll recognize me as the harried, harassed mom of 4 young children at check-in!

:wave2: Activities wise....anyone who's been recently...do you have an updated list of possibilities? Looking for ostrick egg decorating, adventurers stuff, explorers stuff, etc. Thanks!

We will be there then, too! I have 3 kids. Maybe we will see you by the pool!

....that is the Sunrise Safari you must be referring to....you meet at the concierge lounge to "check in" and your group goes on a bus directly in the "back door" to AKL, where you get a personalized tour of the safari, followed by an AWESOME African breakfast buffet at Tusker's, plus, each guest gets a Fast Pass to go on the Safari again!

that's true (we did it last week and it was fantastic!) but there's also an afternoon safari tour of the savannah's at the animal kingdom lodge itself- open only to concierge guests also- but any concierge guest of any resort.

I had wondered if they had added an afternoon tour. We were back at the room one afternoon and I saw it go by. I kept thinking, but, it isn't morning or evening!;)

prego!

i'd say go for it! the SS was soooo good- we did the regular safari afterwards and my son kept saying 'this is not as good' he was telling everyone they should do the 'early' one-- not grasping the whole concierge aspect of it!!

Eddieras, THANK YOU SO MUCH !

I'm not sure I'm getting this right :
:confused3 Is there ONLY an AFTERNOON TOUR of the lodge savannahs ?
(morning ? evening ? as I saw in another post ) :confused3

When did you book your TOURS ?
upon arrival at the AKL ? Were those tours filled up ... as far as you know ?

Did you get CLOSE to the animals at the lodge ???

:flower: Thanks very much again !!!!!! :flower:

Hi all,

My brother just booked two nights at AKL Savannah view. He is going to surprise his wife a little girl. They think they are staying at an Allstars. I would like to give him some tips from the experts.

How many savannah views are there? Which is the best one? What floor is best to request? Any other info would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

Laura-- i think you may be confusing the Sunrise Safari or Evening Safari, which both take place at the Animal Kingdom and are open only to concierge guests of the animal kingdom lodge, with those now offered at the lodge. they recently began safari's of the savannah's at the Lodge itself. i believe they're at 10am and 2pm - i'm trying to find the info, but can't!! i'll keep looking!

dizneykid- i prefer the the 3rd floor on the Zebra Trail, preferably in rooms 3423 to 3437 - these rooms are in the second 'block' (as you move away from the lobby) and it gives you a greater panarama of arusha rock and the savannah. you're also above the pool and restaurants = less distance to walk. i prefer the 3rd floor because the entrance/ lobby is actually on the 3rd floor- thus you only need the elevators for the pool/ restaurants- but not to enter/exit the lodge.

Hi, we will be at AKL in JULY :cool1: and are wondering what anyone thinks of the counter service “food court” Mara, as in what type food and can the family chose what they like and pay at the same time at one register or do you pay at each place where you order from. Also what drink do they offer for the mugs . :confused3 THANKS

you pay at once all together.... i enjoyed the food there- great burgers/fries and zebra domes for dessert!!!

DH and I were staying at AKL 2 years ago ; as far as I know food was BETTER than average counter service in most "WDW restaurants" we visited.
They had nice pastas and minestrone ( we live in Italy !!!) as well as salads-to-go and very good " chicken wraps"... and burgers and fries of course !!!

There were 2 stations for drinks where you can have all day coke and various soft drinks, including iced tea. You can have also coffee-regular or decaf.

We also found it very convenient to use our mug to get HOT tea and other infuses ... to take back to our room for the night ... or DH went to Mara early in the morning for hot tea and muffins  to enjoy on our verandah while watching the animals !!!!!!!! (7.00 - 7.30 in the morning )
To get your tea-bag just ask at the cash-counter ... no charge, if you have your mug with you.

Have a MAGIC vacation !!!!!

Laura :wave2:
