According to the map I am looking at rooms 1456 through 1486 are located on the Zebra Trail and depending on what side of the hall you are on you are either going to have a pool view room or a savanna view room overlooking the Uzima Savanna.

What view did you book?

Good morning, I'm gonna just jump right in since I'm at work. I just switched to AKL. We got an airline discount for a deluxe pool room and requested the ground floor as DS is autistic. Tell me how much I'm gonna love it!!!!

No discounts on suites if you go thru CRO or WDTC.

Sometimes, at check-in, you can upgrade to a suite with the same discount used for your concierge room.
If there's availability, they'll usually do this.

s&k'smom....I'll be the first....you're all are going to LOVE AKL!!!!!::yes::

Came up with another question. Now we requested ground floor is that below the lobby like at WL?

::yes:: If I'm remembering correctly, the lobby is on the third floor.

OK guys please don't think I'm stupid. Do you have to take an elevator to the ground floor. The reason I need to be so detailed is that Ds is afraid of elevators (long story). Can you take stairs or like at WL is there a ramp, so you can get to the ground floor or lobby by just walking. Any details about it would be greatly appreciated. Have to get going so I'll check in in the morning. Thanks so much.

Yes there are stairs to use.

1 set will bring you from the lobby down past Victoria Falls and hits the ground floor right in front of Boma and Jiko.

There are sets at the end of the lobby overlooking arusha rock which go from floor 2 to 5 or maybe even 6. haven't used those.

There are other sets of stairs around.

I haven't seen a ramp from the lobby area to the ground floor.

Have a great trip!

s&k'smom....I'm assuming when you say ground floor, you're referring to the 2nd floor as there are only first floor rooms by the pool. And you could get there by using the ramps as ckj described and then take the ramp to the Boma area. This will put you on ground level without using the elevator.
The other ramp goes behind the fireplace area in the lobby.

And also....there are no stupid questions here on the DIS!!!!

Have a wonderful time at one of my favorite resorts!

Quick point. The "deluxe" rooms at the AKL are located on the 5th and 6th floors. I do not think there are any deluxe pool view rooms on the 1st floor.

Oh you guys rock. It sounds like I can call back and really have a choice of floors and not worry about the elevator. Thank you, I knew I could count on you.

Has anyone had any problems with the AC sensors turning off at night? I'm seriously considering switching to a moderate so I don't wake up in a sweaty heap because the AC turned off in the middle of the night.

 No problems for us.

AllyandJack~

Last summer we didn't have any A/C problems at AKL. The room was always nice and cold. I don't think the air slowed down or shut off at night. DH and I, being transplanted Northerners, still are not used to the heat and humidity here. We would have noticed the air shutting off.

Thanks again you guys, I think my son is going to love the pool area. And the animals will be a bonus.

Has anyone come back lately how were the busses. I'm guessing because you have to get everywhere by bus they run pretty smoothly. Have a nice weekend everyone!

We were at AKL late March/early April and the busses were great! I think one time we waited longer than 10 minutes for a bus to MGM. It is so nice to just be picked up and then dropped off wherever you are heading.

While AKL is a little remote, the dedicated buses were good to have. I know it took less time to get to the parks then when we stayed at resorts that shared their buses. We never had more than a ten minute wait for any bus, and it was so nice to just get on and go where we were headed. Always had a seat too. ::yes::

I'm sure this is a frequently asked question and I haven't waded through all the pages of the FAQ...but i've read that only 10% of teh rooms at AKL are actually standard view and that you're likely to get bumped up to Savanah view???

We are going at the end of August. Does anyone want to speculate on the odds of that happening? It's also my birthday which I told them when I made the reservation...do you think that might help?

Also, just wondering - has anyone ever been upgraded to conscienrge? I know that this has been discussed on the boards but the search function isn't working.

Thanks!

Beth
