Does anyone know what the online check in request options are? I've tried reading through and searching the thread, but I haven't seen it. Could have missed it, of course.

Yes, at least for Jambo House they are
Upper Floor
Near Lobby
Near Elevator
Kudu Trail
Lower Floor
Ground Floor (is this even a thing at Jambo house?)

We are a vegetarian family as well. I think the veggie options at Mara are lacking. For lunch/dinner the choices are butternut squash soup, cheese or veggie flatbread and falafel pita. There are things like hummus in the cold cases but I think it would add a lot if they would offer a veggie burger or something like that. Also, the veggie kid options are pretty much an uncrustable. The cheese flatbread is the only thing that is a hot veggie kid friendly but I don't know if they will allow it as a kids meal option. If they would add Mac and cheese for kids and a veggie burger for adults I would be much happier with Mara.

We just got back yesterday - I found that if you ask they will make off menu items. My daughter ordered a kids mac & cheese and grill cheese sandwich all week without any issues.

Only 65 more days until our first stay at AKL!!!! We have a pool view room booked and I am looking for suggestions or advice about online check-in request options. Are there any options that apply to pool view rooms that may enhance our stay. Floor choice or near elevator? Also, looking at the AKL map it appears that pool view rooms are on the Zebra and Giraffe Trails. For those of you that have experienced AKL, is one of these trails preferable to the other?

Yes, very normal. Nothing fancy - very suited to a child with simple tastes.

We have 44 days and I'M SHOUTING! I'm so excited! I can't imagine how nuts I'll be when I get to 6 or 9 days. I just want time to sloooowwww dowwwnnnnn when I get there, please! We have built in lots of resort time this trip and we are all three really looking forward to it. I am not (yet) medically cleared for the rides so the shows, F&G Festival and the resort are really important to me. I'm hoping to be cleared on April 28th for at least the tamer rides. Whatever happens, it will be an awesome trip. I keep looking at pictures on the picture thread and videos on YouTube.

The most requested hallway used to be Zebra trail because it has close access to the pool, Mara & the restaurants. I think it's not on the request list w/ online check in because everyone would request it. By only offering Kudu trail as an option I think they are trying to encourage people to request it, rather than it being a 'better' view than Zebra. If I had a savanna view booked I would not request Kudu trail if I preferred to be on Zebra trail and closer to the amenities. Personally I'm kind of hoping for Kudu trail sunset savanna view next time (we favor booking savanna view) because that's where the zebra herd is, but if it were my first trip I'd rather have Zebra trail w/ a savanna view booking. If I was booked for standard view and didn't mind the potential long walk to get to the amenities then I might request Kudu trail as all of those rooms/villas have at least a sliver of a savanna view.
In December I left the requests blank and ended up back on Zebra trail w/ Arusha savanna view near a waterhole - which was lovely.

I see links to various maps in this forum and some of the maps show a room type of "Value". Does this exist anymore, or is "Standard" the same thing as "Value"?

There are DVC villas @ AKL that are classified as 'value' villas, so unless you have booked/rented a DVC villa you won't be in one of those. They are located on Giraffe or Ostrich trail (the hallways to the front of the building) on the 5th floor.
The regular rooms booked for cash will be on the lower floors. Standard view rooms booked on cash reservations could be on any of the 4 hallways (Ostrich, Giraffe, Kudu, or Zebra.)
It's complicated at AKL because a couple of years after it first opened they converted the 5th & 6th floors to DVC villas and they go by different names and have different view/booking options than the normal cash reservation rooms. Nevertheless, there are some old original maps out there. Plus, even the view categories for the regular rooms have changed through time - the pool booking category is fairly new, for example.

Would you mind sharing more details on the limits of vegetarian options at Mara? We are going to stay at AKL for the first time in May, and we are a family of 3, all vegetarians. Thanks in advance!

I'm a vegan and had good success working with the chefs to create balanced meals: substituted chopped falafel for chicken in the Mara salad, and had substituted falafel for meat with vegan waffles at breakfast. If you don't like the choices, you could probably work with a chef to create something off-menu.
