Very excited for our first stay at AKL. We are doing CL and going April 30 - May 5, going down for DD's cheer competition. She can't actually compete because she is having spine surgery next month. We chose AKL as she will have limited ride ability still and if she's still getting tired easily, she can at least relax and watch the animals.
Any tips for room requests? It's myself, DH and DD 13. Do rooms have a fridge? Coffee maker? Can you take drinks and a snack from the Club lounge back to the room? Not sure what condition DD will be so I am trying to plan ahead.
Thinking of doing the night safari. Has anyone done it? Thoughts on it?
Any special things/places we should explore. DD will still be using a wheelchair but will also be walking.
Any tips, must do, must try, don't dos... would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You can also request Zebra trail, which would be closer to the Mara and the pool, if she would want to sit by the pool if she can.

Yes the rooms have a small mini-fridge and coffee maker, but the coffee/latte maker in the lounge was really good, so that was better. The jungle juice (or whatever they call it) is available throughout the day and it's really yummy. :)

Hi!

I'm so excited! Last week I booked our trip for May 15-23 and we will be staying at AKL for the first time :cool1::cool1:, in a pool view room. If any of you have any thoughts on what rooms we should request, or any other tips/suggestions, I would truly appreciate it! It will be my husband, 5 yo son and me.

Thank you in advance!

Joyce

Any more updates on the floor refurb? I will be going there in less than two weeks and would appreciate any news. Thank you!

Hi Cookies,
I sent an email to the AKL/CL IPO last week asking about the floor refurb. They replied that it was that it's supposed to be done by Feb 17th. The work is being done between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Hope this helps. Have a great trip! :yay:

We will be there next week, can't wait! :dance3:

....I guess they figure that's when most of the guests are visiting a park....I would have thought that they'd do it during the AM hours when all the guest are asleep, but I suppose it'd be too noisy....

Thank you so much! Figures they will be doing work when I'm there lol. We're only spending two days (2/14-2/16) at AKL before hopping on the Dream. Guess this will give me another excuse to convince my hubby to stay at AKL again in the future!

Have a great trip Gwynne!

Counting down!! 27 days until my birthday trip and stay at AKL!

A few questions for those in the know...

1. Is the night safari worth doing? Anyone ever done it alone?
2. Are Boma/Sanaa places that you can walk into without an ADR? I do have one dinner res and one breakfast res for Boma but I'm curious as to how likely it is that I can play it by ear on other days.
3. Do the lounges serve food into their late hours?

We did the night safari in December 2013. We were the only 3 people booked for that evening and we enjoyed it. The guide spent a lot of time in the giraffe area, as that was my daughters biggest interest. Since we were the only ones, it was like a private tour. The guide offers lots of great information and we had some great up close encounters with the animals.

If you had to choose only 1 table service for breakfast, or dinner at AKL which one would it be? We've already had dinner at Sanaa so we're looking for something else.

Have a great trip Gwynne!

I left there on Saturday and they were well on the way of completing the last quarter section of lobby. There were a few small patches (the bridge across the 5th floor), some small sections towards Victoria Falls, etc that still need to be completed, but shouldn't be as dramatic as what was going on when I was there. It should be done soon though!

Hi, could some one tell me where the laundry rooms is at Akl??

Theyre on the ground floor about 50 ft from the arcade in the corner where the wing divides the Uzima Savannah & the pool area.
If staying on the 5th floor ( DVC ) then there is one just off the atrium when you start to head down the long corridor.

Boma's never dissapoints, thats for sure..It's a buffet, but the mere word does it No justice...It's waaay more than a buffet...You'll be back, I'm sure of it.
Jiko's I still haven't tried but have heard great things...

....:scratchin let it be said that you ARE goofy.....
Speaking of Tink, Kim. Did ya happen to see the video of the new Peter Pan Queue???? It looks really cool, with a lot of magic...Especially Tink.:rolleyes1
