Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS Resort

Sorry if this has been answered earlier.

We're thinking of staying here in May and I heard that the food court is being reburbished. Is this true and if so will it be done by the time we get there in May.

Thanks

i was at sports oct 2-12th this year.
the front entrance and gift shop was being redone at that time i stayed at sports.
i don't know the date the work originally started but the boards, came down and all was completed on my 4th day there.

Sports now has had the football field completely redone and the fronts of all the other buildings. they finished that up while i was there in october.
everything at this resort has now been updated except the food court area.

i have not heard any rumor of the food court being refurbished.

did you read about this on the rumors disboards?
what site did you hear about this work being done?
since you posted that you heard the food court is having a do over, maybe this started after i left the resort last month.

i don't doubt you for a minute, just have not heard about any of this yet.
everything else at sports has been updated so it would make sense for the food court to be the next project.

i would imagine that if and when that project would start, it would be completed quickly. they could update a lot in that area at night when it is closed at midnight.

they can't expect the guests to go to the other 2 sister hotels for the beverages, and food needs. i can see sharing the pools with the others but not the food service. too many with littles would be very inconvienced if that would occur.

We will be staying at the All Star sports Dec 21-26th. It will be and my 3 boys and my mom. We booked 2 preferred handicapped connector rooms. My 3 boys all have a metabolic disorder and 2 are tube fed. They walk but one gets extremely tired. My mom will be using a scooter. This seemed like the best alternative as we get 4 double beds and 2 bathrooms.

i had a handicap room at sports and it was a king bed with the roll in shower.
i wasn't aware it could have been 2 doubles instead. i didn't know people had the option of doing the double beds instead of the king.

if you have a scooter, they usually give you the king bed so you have more room for your scooter. i love these threads! i always learn something new each time which is great.

Hi Everybody!! Just got back a couple of hours ago from All Star Sports!
:sad1:

We had a great time!! We were in room 1109 which is in the Surf's Up preferred building. For anyone who has not been there yet, the laundry room is next to the main building, and we were next to the laundry room! In other words.....really really close!!!

There seemed to be a few sports groups there, such as some type of Karate and Kickboxing tournament, with people from Germany and Scotland, just to name a few places. But the competitors seemed to be adults and everyone seemed to be well behaved, so no problems there.

We never really did have long waits for buses, maybe 15 minutes at most. I said several times that I was very glad that we were at Sports instead of Music or Movies. Most of the times there was no bus sharing, but there was a few times and I was glad to have been picked up first!!

Anyone have any questions just ask!!!

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I was wondering, are there hairdryers in the rooms at AS Sports??

Thanks,
Teresa

Hi,

Does anybody have (new) photos of the area between the lobby and the foodcourt? I was there the first half of September and it was being refurbished, so I'm curious about what was done and how it looks now.

Thanks,

Luis

DisneyBarlans have a great trip and hopefully you will post a trip report.

Have fun......

I had never stayed at Sports before last week, so I don't know what it used to look like. But there was nothing I saw that looked new or anything like that. :confused3

Anyone have any suggestions on where to stay in the preferred rooms.. We are gonna take advantage of the cheap rates disney is now having.. But all they have is preferred open for the week we can go.. But we dont truly want preferred. We would like some quiet and both dont mind the walk..

My suggestion would be request a room at the back of Building #1. That's where the rest of our grand gathering party was and they said it was very quiet, yet still fairly close to everything.

So, picture a T shape - ask for a room at the back of the top horizontal line - I hope that makes sense!

HTH! :goodvibes

OK, I found the layout map I used to figure out which area to ask for before we went:
http://willcad.org/maps/wdw/resorts/allstarroomlayoutlarge.pdf

That should be easier to understand than my goofy description above LOL

They were in rooms #1150, 1151 & 1152. I would think anywhere on the back of that building would be quiet.

...a 2 night stay at SPORTS!:thumbsup2 Its been over 1 year since I have been there, and I got Tennis Section room 4219!:thumbsup2 Not too bad of a location, and I got the "new" furniture/bedcover/tv/and coat rack!:thumbsup2 Last time I was at Baseball, and did not have a "new room." So this was a nice surprise!;)

I just got back last night and will post a trip report soon! Our stay was okay. We were in the touchdown section, very close to the main building and we were facing the football field. Minor annoyances - Mousekeeping. I left a tip the first day in my handy dandy envies I made up. Didn't get any shampoo, cups, ice bucket was still dirty and I don't think they have ever mopped the floor since there was hair all over it by the door which wasn't mine. I didn't leave a tip again since the service was just sub-par.

Our sink didn't drain right and the "quick dial" buttons didn't work on our phone. I think someone on here had this same room because I remember reading about these two problems. Like I said, minor, I didn't complain and we only slept in the room so it wasn't a big deal.

Package pickup..the woman in the gift shop sent me over to concierge, then I got sent back to the gift shop. Only to find out our package wouldn't be there until the next day...the guy at the park said 3 hours. So try explaining THAT to a 9 year old PDD/ADHD child that has been looking forward to playing with his new POTC toy ALL DAY! I made up for it though and we spent A LOT of time playing video games that night.

Bus service was fine. We were the only people on the busses a couple of times. Food court was only packed on Saturday night and it felt like it took forever for them to prepare the food. I do have to say, people weren't helpful when I was getting on the busses. I'm a single mom, traveling with a toddler and a 9 year old. A stroller, 2 kids, and bags = HARD! Not a single person that saw me struggle offered assistance. Everyone just stood there. The men never got up on the busses to offer a seat to women or kids. The women did, so kudos to the ladies! Again, annoyances, but nothing to ruin my trip over.

Each night on the way back from the parks, I stopped in the resort gift shop, bought a big milk (same price as in the food court and twice the size). Filled the small shopping bag up with ice and the milk stayed cold in the ice bucket until morning for the kids.

We didn't get to swim, it was way too cold. My son loved the arcade. Bought a $25 card and it lasted the entire trip.

So that's it in a nutshell. :)

I would have complained about Mousekeeping !!I hear you with no one helping you! I decided against bringing a stroller in 2007 for DGS and we just rented at the park he was 5 though !! The first time on the bus DD saw people with strollers and said "Good Decision Mom"

I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I didn't want to read through all the posts. Do the rooms have irons/ironing boards? I can't remember from previous visits to values if they do or not.
