Disney's ALL-STAR MUSIC RESORT Family Suites Information & Questions

Back in April of this year we stayed in the Family Suites at ASMu thanks to Linda's lovely advice. We were all very happy and comfortable in them.

It was 5 adults and all of us slept comfortably.

Not quite sure how big the bed in the 1 room is because it didn't feel like a full because it was slightly bigger than a full, but didn't look like a Queen either. :confused3

Anyway, 2 adults fit comfortably in it though.
The 1 adult fits comfortably in the single pull out beds (the chair and ottoman). 2 small children may fit in the chair pull out too.
1-2 adults fit comfortably in the pull out couch which is the size of a full.

I didn't sleep on any of the pull outs. The reports were the chair and couch were very comfortable, but the ottoman wasn't as comfy.
I lied down on the chair pull out bed for awhile and the time I was there it was comfortable and I couldn't feel any bars or springs.

The kitchenette area was wonderful. It has a microwave, mini fridge and coffeemaker. The resort supplies 1 roll of paper towel, plastic eating utensils, a bottle opener/corkscrew, teas and instant coffees (instant coffee that is in the filtered bags already), paper plates and bowls, plastic cups and there was plenty of storage space.

The bathrooms were nice and having 2 was a big plus for 5 females. No fights for bathrooms and shower time. There's plenty of room in the closet/sink area to store luggage and to hang clothes. There was also plenty of drawer space for all 5 of us.

Having the 2 TVs was great too.

The internet connection was in the bedroom (but the connection cord was out in the living room area we later found out).

So we were very satisfied with the room and layout. We didn't feel cramped and were comfortable. There wasn't a lot of noise, no complaints. I think the only one was hearing the bathrooms from the adjoining room in the living room, but if we closed our bathroom door we couldn't hear it.

We were in the Calypso building 10, 3rd floor, Room 656 or 0656 and had a pool view and were VERY close to the food court/front desk/gift shop/bus stops. The laundry and bar by the pool was also very close.

I'll share some pictures in the next post.

So thank you Linda! I hope Disney makes more suites too and I hope they start offering Discounts on them because that to me was the only drawback. :sad1:

Thanks so much for sharing your review of the Family Suites.
Thanks also for your kind words and the photos you posted.

I am very pleased that the 5 of you enjoyed the Suites and that all of you were very happy and comfortable in them.

The bed in the Master bedroom is a Queen size. I think the headboard made it appear smaller than it is but it is a queen. The pull out sofa is a double.

Closing the bathroom is a good tip.

The values, AKL and SSR have the turbo toilets and the noise travels through the plumbing. I keep my bathroom door closed when staying at a value and I never hear the noise.

I hope you had fun at Disney!:)

Thanks for all those great pics!!! :) We'll be there Aug. 26th (not in a suite...needed 3 rooms for our Grand Gathering) and it's nice to see more pics of what the renovated rooms will somewhat look like!!! :thumbsup2

Questions for 1st timers.
Do the Values have connecting rooms? How much does the little fridge cost?
I noticed that one suite would cost more than two connecting standard rooms.
Would get 4 full beds, 2 baths that way but would have to pay for a fridge right?

Thanks

I believe it still costs $10 plus tax per night for the fridge. Keep in mind all the other advantages with having a suite compared to 2 std. rooms though. :thumbsup2 Also, the only bldgs. that have the suites are the Calypso and Jazz Inn which are pretty close to all the main areas. You could end up with your 2 connecting rooms at the far end of a BIG value resort. :guilty:

They do have connecting rooms but I don't think they will guarantee that unless you have small children in the 2nd room. Not sure though. :confused3

I do believe the values have connecting rooms and I am almost 100% sure the little fridge cost about $10 a day. I went with a suite because of the fact the master bed is a queen which no matter where you stay is very hard to come by . The other thing is that the kids are in a seperate room and we have a kitchenette . the microwave is a great addition . We drive down so we will have food in the car and go to the local food store for goodies. my kids love microwave popcorn.

We did the POR which is a mod. and weren't as execited as we are for the family suite. :goodvibes

Subscribing. And wondering-Are there elevators to the upper floors? DH and Grandma cant climb stairs. Are the free dining or code discounts available for the family suites? Thanks for the info. Trying to plan for next year and waiting for new rates and availability to book.:goodvibes

All of the buildings have 2 elevators to the upper floors.

I am sorry but at the present time there are no codes or discount s for te Family Suites.

Also none of Disney's suites including the Family are eligable for free dining.

I am hoping these policies will change in the near future.

Thanks for the info. I kinda thought the family suites were not able to get the free dining in sept. In that case we would be better with 2 rooms and able to get the promotions.;)

Thanks for all this wonderful info... you've pretty much sold me on a family suite for next August. (Yeah, I'm a little psycho; I like to plan early!)

I do have a few questions though:

- I know the lines in the morning and at night will be bad. How bad is bad?

- The suites are exempt from the "code" discounts. But can I still use the AAA discount? Or is the price the price that everyone pays?

-I'm assuming that I'll want one of the Calypso buildings so that I'm closer to the food court, transportation and one of the pools. Should I be more specific than that when I eventually make reservations?

- I guess this is the $64,000 question: any idea when next year's rates will be out? I would like to know before booking.

- I've read about people getting seemingly random upgrades. I'm guessing they're few and far between? (I'm still harboring a secret hope that Tinkebell will hit me with some pixie dust and we'll end up at the Contemporary, taking the monorail into the MK each day:rotfl: )

Thanks so much for all the hard work. This made my planning soooo much easier!!

we are leaving for WDW and the family suites in a few weeks . July 29th is our check in date. We paid regular price as AAA discounts were not avaliable for these rooms. I too wish for an upgrade but am very happy with the suites as compared to a room at POR. They were just getting too small and I didn't want to spend too much on a room we only use to sleep in. We drive from NYC so the kitchenette is a huge help we will bring small breakfast foods to save some money . Only Monday we are off to chef mickey though.:goodvibes

I believe all the rooms are considered to be perfered so they are all pretty close to the main building . I will let you know where we get and if it really is a perfered room :rotfl: .

Gotta go watch my show :happytv: talk to everyone soon we are off to Six Flags New England for the weekend , trip one of three for the summer.BUT it isn't DISNEY !!:dance3:

I had my plans almost in stone to stay in two rooms at PC (crossing my fingers we'd get connecting rooms, DS is 15, DD is 12) and found availability at ASM in family suite today! Would anyone recommend to go with the guarantee of everyone being together in the Suite or risk it for a little less money and go with two rooms at PC? :confused3

Always keep in mind that connecting rooms are never gaurenteed unless under very specific circumstances such as 1 adult and 4+ small children. For this idea alone, I love the idea of the suites. PLUS all suites are located very close to the main building (1, 2, 9, 10) which is a big plus in my book! You can very well get connecting rooms, with your fridge rental, but be stuck in the back of the resort. The added benefit of a microwave, seperate sink, living area during the day, and queen bed have me sold!

Minnie I have a quick question for you!

There's a lot of talk about family suites coming to ASSp, PC, and even rumored to be part of the new CR tower. I know with ASSp, the suites will be constucted the same exact way due to current resort room layout. But what about when constructed brand spankin' new? Let's say they complete PC with family suites, will these suites still offer two bathrooms? Does any of this make sense lol? I think a huge plus for these is the two bathrooms (which is why I prefer this over a 1-bedroom... plus who wants the reminder of a stove on vacation!?) and like the idea of having two!

Thanks! :flower3:

Hi Late Disney Bloomer -- I'd choose the suite for the guarantee of all the family being together, and you would be gaining a kitchenette, for the kid's snacks and drinks.

Have a great trip!!

Thanks for the info - I tend to agree with you. A friend of mine told me that PC has better atmosphere than ASM - since I never saw either resort (we stayed POFQ last year and didn't see many other resorts!) but would anyone agree with that assessment??

I enjoy the quiet, relaxed, atmosphere at All Star Music.

Others enjoy the high energy, upbeat.fast moving atmosphere of Pop more.

---------------------------------------------------------

Here is a list of differences between the two resorts.

Pop is newer.
Pop was built in 2003.
All Star Movies was built in 1999.
All Star Sports and Music were built in 1994.

All Star Music just underwent a refurbishment of all of the rooms and was finished in June 2007..

All Star Sports is slated to be refurbished between June and Febuary of 2008.

Pop has a lake. The All Stars do not have a lake.

When staying at the All Stars you use any of the All Stars pools.
The 3 All Stars are within easy walking distance of each other.

The gift shops are separate from the food court at the All Stars.
The gift shop and food court are combined at Pop.

Pop has 2,880 guest rooms. 4 floors in each building.
Each of the All Stars has 1,960 rooms. 3 floors in each building.

Both Pop and the All Star rooms are 260 square feet.

The beds at the All Stars are movable.

the beds at Pop at bolted to the floor.

The far bed at an All Star is closer to wall. And the near bed is not as close to the doorway as it is at Pop

The far bed at Pop is pulled away from the wall more. The near bed is closer to door.

For most people that would not make a difference but since I need an EVC
the bed being so near the door at Pop makes it more difficult for me to back my EVC in. :moped:

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard:

Just a few questions for everyone.

1) Does anybody have any comments on the landscaping around ASMu vs CBR? Me and DD were there in the fall for our first on property visit and it was so beautiful. But when all 4 of us go back, the suite is the way to go I just don't know what to expect as far as outside the hotel room.

2) Anybody know how they decorate for Christmas? Hoping there is a little festive feeling....

3) DD wants to know if any of the suites feature Mickey rather than Donald on the art? If so, which building?

1. All Star Music seems to have the nicest landscaping of all of the values.
