DisneyQuest strategies?

Hi everybody,

I'm considering a trip to DisneyQuest while I'm at WDW in December, and reading up on it a bit. I'd hate to get stuck there for half a day, watching my kid play arcade games he could play anywhere! Or worse yet, waiting in ridiculously long lines. But some of the stuff sounds cool -- I tried Cyberspace Mountain at Disneyland Paris this month, and just absolutely totally loved it.

But anyhoo . . . as I'm reading about DisneyQuest, I'm not finding any strategies or touring plans, and it sounds large enough to justify such a thing. Does anybody have advice, or pointers to specific plans?

(FWIW, DS9 and I both love video games and VR stuff. I'm a Dance Dance Revolution addict.)

Go when it first opens in the morning, and on a Tue, Wed, or Thur if possible. And if you stay till closing, make sure it is a weekday night, as it can get busy on a Fri, or Sat night. Sun night has been good also when we have gone.
If it is raining in the parks, DQ can get busy! But more so on a weekend day/evening.
Do the Pirates and VR like Aladdians first, they get busier as the day goes on.
Dinner can cost a lot in DQ, but most of the food is good. We have split the meals, so that we could eat several small meals and have room for dessert from the Chessecake Factory.
Most things are free, however you can buy some things. The video tape of your RollerCoaster, the CD you can make in the sound booths, and some Toys you design like in Toy Story. There is also a drawing class, done on Computer, and you can buy what you draw.
I HATE video games! But I LOVE Disney Quest... no idea why. Pirates is way cool. However, if I know I will be there all day, I take a book, and sit up in the Wonderland Cafe and read as DS runs from floor to floor.

Wear very comfy shoes. And I have taken a light weigh shirt/sweater as I get cold in there sometimes.

Hope this helps, you should have a blast. DQ is one of the main reasons my DS and I have PAP's and we live 6 hours away!

We use to go to DQ every other Friday night. We've found, as the above poster remarked, that it's best to start from the 1st floor and work your way up. Most people start at the 3rd floor, since that's where the elevator drops you off. If you are there during the busy time of December, be sure to be there at opening as lines can get huge. If you are going at a less busy time in December the lines should not be bad. We've found the food lines to get long during normal dinner times. We usually eat really early to avoid the lines. The Quest burger with cheese is the best burger on WDW property!

Well, you sound alot like me - not much of a video game fan, so I understand your plight. ;)

I am NOT a DQ fan. Mainly, I hate the layout of the place. It's several floors, in a "stacked" fashion. Not alot of floor space, just alot of stuff crammed into the little bit there is. If you go at a crowded time, you feel like sardines packed into a can. ;)

So when my family (who loves the place) is off playing all the goofy games (I've played them and they do nothing for me), I go sit down, have some FABULOUS cheesecake and a cup of coffee and people watch. I find that much more amusing.

Enjoy! :sunny:

In the Fodor's WDW 2005 guide book it says there's a place called Replay Zone where you have to pay additional $ to get "play cards" to play the video games. Is this correct? Why isn't this included in the entrance price?

The Replay Zone has games that allow you to win tickets that can then be turned in for prizes. It is optional, as there are a lot of games that are free.
However, some people like to get prizes when they win, so you can pay, play and win. I have tickets that I have saved for the last 3 years, as this was undergoing a rehab 2 trips ago and was closed last Oct for a rehab. So I will try and redeam them in a week or 2, as some of the printing is very, very faint. We will see.

Fodor's also says that the Replay Zone area has a ride called Buzz Lightyear's AstroBlaster. It says it has bumper cars with asteroid cannons that make other cars spin when you hit them. Is it worth it to pay extra for this?

Thanks, kitty-chan, for posting on DQ and for all of the replies - my DS is now 13 and I have promised him we'd go THIS trip - finally! There's lots of helpful info you've shared for all of us!!!

melomou :grouphug: se

the only games you pay extra for are the ones that give tickets that you can trade in for prizes (think skee ball or whack a mole). you do not pay extra for Buzz

I also do not love DQ, but I do enjoy seeing my family LOVE it. It does have some unusual things that you would not find in your typical arcade. However, it also offers all the typical games you would find at any arcade.

For my family, we do not visit arcades. So, this is a treat for them. For us (them), it's part of the disney magic.

I recently read that the ticket games are no more...well, they're still there, but you don't have to pay to play them and they don't give tickets. I saw that on Mouseplanet.com in last week's park update.

…It appears that the former “ticket” games at DisneyQuest no longer dispense tickets. The upside of this is that you no longer have to pay for any of the games at the indoor park. However, those that enjoyed paying a lot of money to get enough tickets to “buy” a prize that should cost much less than you just spent will no longer have that opportunity.

Hey, that's great news actually! One of the things I hate about arcades is that my son gets so focused on winning tickets that he forgets about having fun. Ugh. I was thinking I'd have to set limits on this (ie, we're not playing games that cost extra, after paying all that money to get in), so now I'm glad Disney took care of that for me!

And thanks everybody for all these great tips! I'm currently leaning strongly towards hitting DQ on this trip. We'll be at WDW Dec 16-23, which is longer than we've ever stayed before, and since my son's outgrown character meals and isn't ready for thrill rides yet, we've got time to throw in a new thing or two. We'll have a car, so I'm starting to think I'll get the MYW "plus" feature, so we could stop into DQ a couple times in the late mornings, when the parks are starting to fill up but maybe DQ isn't insanely busy yet. We'll have a car, so it'll be easy to stop by DQ on our way to our afternoon break. :cool1:

My ds and dh were at DQ last week. The games you pay to play and get tickets were all gone.
