It would be nice if Disney had spent some $ to keep it updated and I agree the building exterior is fugly. But we went more than once each trip (water park & more tickets) and really enjoyed it. Great on rainy days. Great on days when you had a wicked sunburn and didn't want to go to a park until after dark. Concept is dated? So are a dozen classic attractions but we still go to them and loved them. Disney, like any smart business, wants to appeal to multiple demographics. Something like DQ was a way to appeal to interests that might be under-served in the major theme parks. I think that appeal was greater for a gaming theme rather than a sports theme. DH and I have zero interest in the NBA so we, too, will not go, and losing DQ is one less reason for us to bother going to DTD/Hyperion Springs/insert new name here.

Devils advocate - do you think it's the CEO making these "poor" choices? Should he go? Do you think it's lack of imagination on the imaginears part and maybe they need to change things up?
If they were smart, they would do something huge with a marvel theme of some kind. Look how huge that franchise is right now and I really don't think they are capitalizing on it enough.

There is already a pretty sweet Marvel store at DTD. There is not much they can do in the parks because of the Universal contract.

I see your points but I guess I was just hoping for something more original from Disney, since the NBA thing has already been done over at the dark side. And not to get too far off topic, but Cheesecake Factory replacing NBA City is one rumor I've heard too, and I've also heard it will be a WWE restaurant.
Disney Springs is going to be a shopping center with bits of unique creations since it is Disney, but it will mostly be outside,Disney approved vendors. If it was up to me you would have Haunted Mansion and Star Wars themed restaurants, the only hint of anything unique like this going in is the Indiana Jones bar going in next to the Boathouse, but this will be small,no huge expense in construction and guaranteed to be profitable if its anywhere as popular as Trader Sam's at the Poly with its $20+ drinks.Disney prefers to have outside companies handle and take the risks of building the major venues.

I think the CEO's job is safe while Disney is hauling in record profits. I think Disney is on the verge of some big things although they are being very tight lipped about any plans.

We are a family of gamers, and we enjoyed DQ. However, I can understand the opinions of it being outdated and not attractive for the price of admission.
What bugs me is that Disney is going from one very specific market (gamers), to another very specific market (NBA fans). Not to mention it's going to add yet another retail and restaurant space to the area. The whole Disney Springs concept seems to be devolving into another outdoor shopping mall, much like DTD in California is already.

My DH is a big basketball fan, and 6 year old DS is starting to enjoy it too. But they are both disappointed at the loss of DQ. We'd get premium AP's just so we could visit the place a few evenings or on a rainy day every trip. The guys would often go in while I shopped. We will likely just buy regular AP's now instead of premium because we don't do the water parks more than once or twice a year.

Considering basketball was invented in Canada I don't think it has much of a following in regards to the professional leagues at all.

No following? An all-time record 18.8 million watched Game 2 of this years NBA Finals - http://www.nba.com/2015/news/06/08/ratings-for-game-2-nba-final

Don't understand the "invented in Canada" part. Wasn't soccer invented in England? So by your logic, soccer has no following in other countries like Mexico or Brazil.

I'm alright with DisneyQuest I feel like they should have updated all the games and stuff. Seeing that NBA is going to replace Disney Quest upsets me because they should have sticked with a disney theme attraction instead of something else.

We're spending our first afternoon there in August. DS wants to try the virtual roller coaster after seeing it featured on a TV program.

My kids loves Cyber Space Mountain! We have to go to DQ twice a trip so they can do this over and over. They prefer it to Sum of all Thrills in Epcot, for some reason!

Our family is not the least bit interested in the NBA so will not go there at all. In fact I don't know any family or friends who are into the NBA. Considering basketball was invented in Canada I don't think it has much of a following in regards to the professional leagues at all.

My boys LOVED DQ! Oh well less reason now to take time to go to DQ.

Basketball was actually invented in Springfield, MA.

I've lived my whole life in Canada and have yet to hear of anyone talk about basketball. In fact when Steve Nash was a flag holder in the Vancouver Olympics most people had to look up who he was. At least in my circle of friends and family. But we had no problems knowing who the other flag holder was - Gretzky.:)

My point with only one NBA team in Canada it really doesn't have many fans. Maybe those 18 million were Toronto folks who have given up on the Leafs. Trust me there aren't many people on the prairies talking basketball. LOL.

I didn't mean that it wasn't followed in other counties where it wasn't invented. Just that even through it was invented by Canadians it wasn't that popular of a spectator sport here. Now hockey on the other hand....

I would think that interest in DQ has decreased over the last few years. Anyone have data on that somewhere? Lol! With sooo many options for portable gaming, and so many games available, even the classics, I would think people would not want to take time from an expensive vacation to play games that can easily play at home. I've got 4 different systems in my house where I can play classic Donkey Kong. No sense in forking over money to play it in another state. Lol!
Nothing like playing them in the cabinets though, for me at least its quite nostalgic. But now your making me want to boot up my NES and play some classics!

Sad. We won't be visiting the new NBA themed attraction, no matter what it is, no NBA fans in my house.

I enjoyed DQ, but something needed to be done with it. It was in need of some updates. I probably won't venture to the new NBA attraction much (maybe once to see what it is about). That just isn't' my thing.

Personally, I find the NBA experience thing a bit of a weird choice at such an international venue.

ETA: I had to Google what it stood for. I like sport generally- I'll be glued to my TV for some Wimbledon coverage, I barely leave the house when the Olympics are, you'll find me listening to my local team on the radio (as I moved away) every weekend for our match when football season is on, and I'm hooked by the World Cup, but seriously, didn't know what the NBA was.

We didn't have time for Disney Quest last year, but were planning on a visit next year as we have a 2 week trip booked. Never mind, more days for the other parks, I guess.

Visited DQ a while back, before the price was included. Totally not worth the price back then and probably more so now. Excited for the change though as we are basketball fans here in this house.

We thought DQ was horribly dated. And did not have much for younger kids.

I thought they might update DQ with better games and maybe some more family friendly carnival style games. I also think that the playground areas at the parks are always very popular and it'd be neat to have an indoor space like that.

I'll wait and see what NBA land is but the concept sounds too specific to me at first blush.
