No, say it isn't so, omg my boys are going to be so disappointed, that was the one draw to get my family to DTD/Disney Springs. Shopping and an NBA experience is not going to do it. So bummed!:(

As for Disneyquest...If it was updated I think it could have brought in more people. I don't "get" the NBA themed place. Why not do something related to Disney or Star Wars?

They probably wont bring in something related to Disney or Star Wars because they want people to pay park admissions for those experiences. NBA Experience seems like a good way to try attract young men, one ares where disney does not have a huge fan base with. Also one of reasons they acquired Lucas films.

I like the idea of DQ in concept, and in practice have whiled many hours with DH playing air hockey and classic arcade games. We love Cyberspace Mountain and had fun in the Buzz Lightyear bumper cars.

In reality, most of the attractions are dated and require uncomfortable headgear to experience. I guess it takes a commitment to updating that WDW is not willing to make regularly.

I wouldn't pay full admission to get in, but I probably wouldn't go to an NBA themed attraction at all. So for me it's a loss.

Wow. DisneyQuest isn't all that. And arcades are kind of dated. But DQ had a nice aspect that you didn't need to keep plugging quarters (or now dollars) into the games.

Replacing w the NBA thing is terrible. DQ draws $50pp from families... an NBA place is targeting who? I just don't see an opportunity to play or watch basketball... whether real or in a virtual way... as a draw in itself. I can do that at home, my kids can do that in school. And the NBA season only goes half the year... And there's just no reason to have that there. It's not what any significant number of families are looking for -- imagination, fairytale, Disney characters, escape from reality, etc.

At least DQ catered to their typical guest... families with kids 3-9. It was something to actually do in DTD. An unthemed restaurant and basketball center is blah. (and yes I consider something "themed" around something as mundane and every day as basketball as unthemed. There is no reason to go to Disney World to seek this out.

I'm already kind of DTD'd out... we made a tradition of getting a new hat sewn at the store there for each of our kids on subsequent trips... but now that they all have one, that part is done. We like the T-Rex to eat, and the LEGO store is always a good 10-min stop. But beyond that it's not like we're going to shop shop shop and buy stuff.

I'm pretty sure we would never go into an NBA-themed thing there. Especially not for $50 per person.

Glad we'll get to go to DQ before it closes.

Would rather have seen them fix DisneyQuest than tear it down, but I can understand them tearing it down. I don't understand why Disney keeps replacing things with ideas that are "trendy" but no one really wants. There's an ESPN Club restaurant at Boardwalk already. It's...there. It's mildly disappointing if you've ever been to one of the real ESPNZones (the ones that closed in other cities that had huge sports-themed arcades) and expected something similar. I'm not sure what goes in an NBA experience other than a restaurant and shopping--and a restaurant with nothing particularly interesting about the food. Like the Avatar expansion, this seems to be picking up an IP because it's there, not because it's good or fitting.

Now, I could come up with some very cool things to do with an NFL Experience restaurant, which would fit slightly better at Disney World (because of the annual "I'm Going to Disney World!" Super Bowl champion commercials), like serving distinctive tailgate foods from around the country (brats and cheese curds from Green Bay for a start). And football is a lot more popular than any other U.S. sport, with a lot more cultural impact (compare Super Bowl parties to the NBA Finals).

Hey hey hey!! We love the NBA, in fact basketball is the ONLY sport we watch AT ALL in this house. DH and I have zero interest whatsoever in sports and wouldn't care about basketball either, except 3 out of 4 DS's love it and DS13 plays in many leagues, just started playing for school last year and hopefully will continue next year and into high school..............
OK I'm done:) Not saying this is a wonderful idea but I wouldn't be thrilled with an NFL or baseball experience either. Nor did I like DQ (except Ms. PacMan :thumbsup2) just had to point out the NBA does have fans!

My husband and I love the NBA as well, we'll definitely visit the NBA Experience as well!

Our family is hoping to make it back for one more DQ visit (June 2016) before it closes. We love/d it. During our WDW visits, we always plan a few hours at DQ. We will miss it.

We are not interested in the NBA Experience, but know that it will draw an older crowd and sports families.

(We also loved the Adventured Club and they took that away from us too)

Our family is not the least bit interested in the NBA so will not go there at all. In fact I don't know any family or friends who are into the NBA. Considering basketball was invented in Canada I don't think it has much of a following in regards to the professional leagues at all.

My boys LOVED DQ! Oh well less reason now to take time to go to DQ.

Bummer! We liked to going to DQ on rainy days (with a few close friends lol). Were looking forward to it next trip. Oh well. Guess we don't need the WP&M passes. Saves us $

I never went in the past (seemed expensive .. and didn't want to spend the time there (as I usually don't spend a long vacation at Disney).

Maybe I should check it out in August before it goes.

This really sucks !!!! my fiance and i look forward to this every year !! We battle compete and have fun and truly enjoy ourselves ! We talk about goign every year to see who is goign to have bragging rights for year and now its one less thing to do ... If they where building something for all of us to experience it would almost feel better. BUT an NBA store !!!!! I'm heart broken !

My adult children has fun there. They added it to their tickets for $20.
No interest at all in NBA!! :(

I can see it closing, but not for that.

Is DQ worth checking out as a 29 year old recent Disney World lover?? (My family couldn't afford it when I was a kid).

Haven't been since 2010, but DH and daughters really enjoyed it one rainy day. I think it was part of the Water Parks & More option, wasn't it? There is no way our family will ever bother with an NBA restaurant, so yeah, it is disappointing for us.

I went to DQ once in 2003 and thought it was dated and not much fun. It was loud and I had to chase DS down. If it hasn't been updated much since then I can only imagine.

We try our best to limit electronics on vacation so DQ was out of the question for vacations after that. I actually haven't even been to DTD since 2008. It just feels like a big mall to me.

I can see us going to DTD in the future just for the NBA experience since DS is a huge sports fan in general and keeps up with basketball a lot. My BF is a huge NBA fan too.

Only if you are a major gamer, and have free or discounted admission. I have been an avid gamer my whole life (I'm 38), and DQ was just okay to me. It was loud, and the classic games were fun, but I own a lot of the games, so it wouldn't be worth the price to me. We just went because we had free admission with our package.

:welcome: to Disboards. :)

I may be behind the times, but I just read about the closure of DisneyQuest sometime in 2016. My DH, DS19, and DS17 will be so bummed. They could spend every day at this place. We won't be going back until the first week of June 2016. I so hope it's still open then. I know they stopped selling annual passes this year on June 29. So wouldn't that mean that it wouldn't close before June 28 next year to allow those who bought annual passes to get a full year's worth? That may be wishful thinking though.

ETA: Now I see the other threads on this topic. Sorry for making a new one. But everyone can guess the closure date on this thread.

I'm not into games at all, lol. So THANK you for your insight, I'll just stick to the parks!
