Disneyland's newest food bargain

I would expect them to lower the price of the burger but still offer .99¢ tomatoes. :)

Maybe they were needing to raise the cost of the burgers. They stopped short of that and, instead, dumped the tomatoes and are now charging for them. Gotta see the Glass half full! :thumbsup2

I know it's hard to see the changes and additional charges. Times are tough for everyone and just getting to DLR is a sacrifice. But let's remember that insurance premiums are going through the roof. Disney has to pay a ridiculous amount for liability insurance on the rides for our protection. Also, they began the DCA remodel before builing costs went through the roof. Labor costs are higher in California than almost any other state. (Toyaota just announced they will close their California Tacoma plant and moving to San Antonio to save in labor costs) And, even with attendance up, the people coming are not spending the money that was spent in the past. We see it here on this board all the time. Yes, many of us spend alot of money there. But how many times do we see folks asking about bringing in food and drinks? Photopass shares (now not allowed here for good reason)? Questions about offsite rooms? Disney Visa enrollment went up I am sure in no small part to the free strollers (now defunked)
As folks come on here to find ways to save money, who are they saving money from? Disney. They have to find a way to make it up. Is it frustrating? yes. Is it inevitable? yes. Will it keep us from coming back? No
If you need to save the $, they are giving you the option, IMHO.
OK I will get off my soap box :rotfl2:

I was almost ready to curse, but had to remember where I was!!:lmao::lmao: It was a knee-jerk reaction! My first thought was, "Are you.......kidding me?!!!" No more criss cut fries??:scared1: How can that be? That is one of the best things AT Taste Pilots Grill, and one of the main reasons I liked TPG! You could put those fries on the hamburger or sandwich and eat it that way! Okay.....I am seriously going to re-think going to TPG again next trip, when I could just try White Water Snacks instead.

You know, Sherry... that was my exact thought as well.

I understand about rising costs, but it seems odd to just do this at the Hungry Bear. I had one of their burgers last Jan because the park was so crowded, that was the only place we could find some breathing room. I don't remember it coming with tomatoes. In fact, I'm pretty sure it didn't because I remember thinking it was nothing that great and put it on my don't buy again list. In my mind a tomato goes a long way towards helping a burger be all it can be. :rotfl:

And now that TPG lost their waffle fries... :sad2: And I was wanting to try their Full Throttle Fries. Well, off to Whitewater everyone! :lmao:

Char-Broiled Cheeseburger - with Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and pickle, served with seasonal fruit or French fries. $7.59

Char-Broiled Chicken Sandwich - with grilled Ortega chile and guacamole, served with seasonal fruit or French fries. $8.59 (This also comes with tomato and lettuce)

Now that chicken sandwhich is way bigger than TPG anyway! :thumbsup2 And, needless to say, blows away Hungry Bear.

My family is in the food service industry and I have this to add :)
regarding the possible cause for waffle fries disappearing. Over the last year our suppliers have dropped several items from their inventory. All wholesalers (ours) state that some manufacturers have gone belly up in this economy.
Maybe they DL are working on a new supplier or simply cannot get the volume they require anymore. Wholesale prices have gone up by larger than average percentages over this past year. Possibly the current supplier upped their prices to unmanageable rates? There is a bevy of possibilities :goodvibes

I think we all know and accept that prices are always escalating. I just don't like the tone it sets when you charge for minor things like that. It feels cheap and petty. Just up the price of the sandwich!

I have heard that at WDW they are taking the backs off of chairs at their counter service to make people not sit and be comfortable for too long. At least Hungry Bear still has their chairs. :rotfl:

As far as seat backs making me eat quickly...doesn't happen. We always have fish n chips at the harbor galley on the top floor at the picnic tables overlooking the hm line...no backs on the benches and we still enjoy our lunch. Anyway...

I don't mind the cost. I will pay another dollar if I really ned the tomatoes on my burger. I agree with a pp who said that the amount we pay to get into disneyland and enjoy all of the fabulous ride and entertainment is cheap!! And I hate to see them have to nickel and dime in the park...I'd rather just pay more to get in in the first place. Jmo.

Do you think maybe they're testing these two things at one restaurant each just to gauge the public reaction?

I'm sad to hear about the waffle fries...I love them! I really don't care about the tomatoes as I don't particularly care for them on a burger (Always order without), but for those of you who do like them, it really stinks! Maybe due to weather or something there was a tomato shortage and they're testing in one place before everywhere?

I don't know, I'm just throwing it out there-It would seem that if it was due to a shortage they'd do it everywhere though.

Who knows. I am thankfully not in charge of money at Disney. :)

I am no tomato lover, at least not on my burger...but wow how much can one extra slice of tomato even cost? Not even a quarter for two slices I am sure.

Now does anyone have any reports on how the new fries were? Spacemermaid...where they just, um, fries? :3dglasses Had to use the 3D glasses smiley, he is too cute, inquiring minds what to see those fries in 3D, LOL!

Yep. Just fries. They were good, but they were no waffle fries!

I am confused. :confused3 why charge for the tomatoes? That just sounds so dumb! Why not charge an extra 50 cents for the lettuce too? And what about the poor onion? Like some of you who have stated above, maybe its a test, maybe they need more money, etc, but for only one rest too charge extra for tomato? That sounds so strange! Maybe, the manager for Hungry Bear is pocketing the extra tomato sales! :rotfl: Or maybe, they are doing us a favor- maybe this year the tomato has the dreaded virus- E-Coli or Salmonella LOL. I always forget which one is for meat and which one is for the veggi. Either way- the both make you sick. heha. Maybe, we need to wake up good ole Walt and let him know what is going on!

As for the fries, well that sucks! maybe there is an inventory shortage- maybe they will be back soon. Maybe, the waffle potato cutter is getting refurbished!
~Tinksdreamwishes!
ps. I cant wait to try out whitewater snacks!:3dglasses

Maybe, they have a plan! Like when you go to burger King or McDonald's and buy the basic hamburger - you get a pickle, some chopped onion, ketchup and mustard for like 89 cents. And if you pay $3 more- you get the tomato, big onion slice, lettuce and mayo! Maybe this is whats going to happen. Except the basic hamburger at dL will cost 8.99 and the deluxe burger will be $12.99 and the double deluxe burger (2 patties) will be $16.99. :rotfl:

Me too Sherry!!! OMG, NO criss cut fries??? Say it ain't so!!!! :( And yes a lot of companies may be going under, but Ore/Ida is still around and HUGE and they have criss cut fries......

WWS may just be the way to go for us too. Too bad because we LOVE TPG!!! But, the pickles on the burger at WWS is enough to make me go there, I can do without tomatoes (and usually ask for none on my burgers) but it's really hard for me to have NO pickles on my burgers. LOL HB doesn't do pickles....

So, if you eat at HB and say no tomatoes do you get your burger for less?

... E-Coli or Salmonella LOL. I always forget which one is for meat and which one is for the veggi.

e coli can be on either. e coli is all about poop, and it can contaminate meat and non-meat. apples can have it if they fall from the tree, land in poop in the orchard, and aren't washed (or aren't washed thoroughly). meat can have it if there's icky things going on in the slaughterhouse (ickier than normal, that is). etc etc. So I don't know about salmonella, but e coli can be anywhere there's poop (with e coli in it).

Isn't that a fun post of mine!??????

Where is the tag fairy when you need her? LOL :rotfl::lmao::rotfl:

There was at least one pickle on my hamburger at HB on Saturday . . . .

Really? We don't eat there often but everytime I've been there NO pickles on my burger, not at Village Haus either. I don't like plain burgers, but if I'm hungry enough I'll eat at Hungry Bear, I usually run over to the snack vendor by the canoes and grab a big pickle from them and then meet DBF and kids back at the restaurant, we share the pickle between the 4 of us. :)
