I'm heading over to Disneyland for a long holiday weekend. It's been almost 20 years since I've been out there. Can anyone suggest some good shooting locations that I should look out for?

Thanks

I hear they have a tiny castle out there that people sometimes photograph...

A spot I personally love to shoot from is in New Orleans Square right next to the river. You can get a great shot of the Mark Twain Paddle Boat with Big Thunder Mountain behind it.Another on is near the castle. When you get to the "Hub" hang a 45 degree right hand turn. The Matterhorn will be right in front of you. If you time it right you can get the monorail passing in fron of the Matterhorn. During the evening hours the sun will reflect of of the snow and create some great colors for you.

Remembered another one. West side of the Matterhorn, you can get some good shots of the Submarine Lagoon again with Monorails going above it. Wait got another one. This one is all about timing. At night in front of the Castle it is possible, if staying to park closing, to get pictures of the Carousel through the open archway of the Castle with no one in the way.

Fantasyland is wonderful for shooting especially storybook canal, casey jr, and all whole exterior look of that area. The exterior of IASM is amazing. You can also get some interesting shots from the top of Tarzan's treehouse.

Interesting. I have never heard or read that.

I have been on tours at DL and was told that He wanted to make the Matterhorn the focal point and he wanted it to be larger but had to stay within regulations/city code. It wouldn't make sense for the castle to be larger than a mountain. I'm sure Walt did probably want the castle to be larger though. Anyways I do prefer it to Cindy's Castle. Bigger is not always better. I love the dioramas inside the castle. Did you happen to that on your visit Tom? I would love to hear what you thought of Fantasyland, IASM, Pirates, Mainstreet and your trip.

I have never heard the Matterhorn part, but I have heard the city code (I've also heard an FAA code) bit, and that's urban legend. I think sometimes the cast members on the tours make things up or are misinformed. I've heard a lot of falsities regarding Partners that have come from those tours (specifically the Keys to the Kingdom tour at WDW), too.

Granted, even the Sotto statement could be incorrect. Someone could have remembered incorrectly, embellished, etc.. It's tough to really know for sure since Walt never made a public statement that was recorded.

All in all, I loved Disneyland. I'll get into quite a bit more detail in my forthcoming TR.

You do know that Walt wanted it smaller because the focal point was the matterhorn at DL, right?
Couldn't have been that; the Matterhorn was a later addition to the park, and wasn't even conceived of when the park (and Sleeping Beauty Castle) was originally designed and built.

Agree with all the suggestions for New Orleans Square area. It is rich in colorful detail.

With the new CarsLand open in California Adventure you should be sure to head over there as well. The imagineers have put a lot of thought into each tableaux. You'll find both sweeping vistas and some (again) incredible detail.
