hello everyone i havnt been on here in forever.... so long that i actually had to open an new account :worried:. Well i need some help. We have a trip planned for my ds8 ds6 and dd4 in late august with myself my mom and my grandma!!! we are totally exctied as we havnt been since before i had dd. but now we are adding another little traveler with us i will have a ds who will be at most 1.5 months old when we go. I dont want to cancel the trip as my mom has booked the time off and my other 3 kids would be heart broken. Im just wondering if anyone has gone with someone so little nad your experience. ANY help/ info would be appreciated my grandma will be in a scooter as she has limited walking ability and we will have stroller for baby. So anything all that would be useful please feel free to comment. Also we will be driving down from vancouver b.c so even car ride suggestions would be helpful!!! thanks in advance!!

I have never done it, but have a friend who did. Her youngest was about that age when they went to WDW. She took her mom as well. The mom/g-ma would watch baby while the parents took the other kids on the rides. From what I've heard from them, it wasn't bad.

My dd (now 12) was 6 weeks old when we went camping, she was much easier at that age then a year later. As fo the drive, for the older kids a portable DVD player to keep them entertained. Good luck

We took grand daughter on her first trip at 4 weeks old. She slept in stoller/carseat combo most of it. We made use of baby changing places and she really was no problem at all.

does any one know if i will be able to take him on the fantasy land rides and pirates with him in a snuggly?

I've heard conflicting on this one. Some people say yes while other's have been told they have to take the baby out. I just always carried mine when they were that little since they spent so much time in the stroller.

We brought our oldest son when he was 5 weeks old and it was one of the best trips ever!!! We brought him on everything that did not have a height requirement. I found Pirates to be a great ride to nurse him on. It was just long enough to get a full feeding in. Congrats on your newest little one.

Be sure to check out the Baby Care center at the end of Main St. It was so nice and quiet and pretty in there.

When my DD2 was a newborn I had to go on a trip with her. I was looking for a stroller that would travel easily. I ended up getting one of those stroller frame things that you put your car seat on. I had previously decided against that idea because it can only be used for a short while, and I thought it would be a waste of money. I was SOO wrong! I ended up loving it! It was so lightweight, and it didn't take up hardly any room. You may want to look into something similar for your trip. Have fun, and congrats on your new family member!

thanks everyone for your replys. Im not so worried about big rides as my grandma is unable to go on rides like that so she will be hanging out with baby i just wasnt sure if i was able to hold him on the fantasyland rides. my mom said the same thing about the car seat stroller, my only thought on bringing a big stroller would be for my dd4 incase she gets tired then i could put baby in the snugli :)

I work in newborn ICU so will give you a few suggestions from my nurse brain. :wave2:

Remember it will be hotter in SO Cal than you are used to at home so please remember to take in extra hydration for your milk supply, and try to nurse him a little more frequently even if he doesn't ask. He may not know he needs more fluid. If you are bottle feeding still remember to take in more fluid for yourself and give him a bottle a little more frequently. Your other kids may need to be reminded to drink more frequently also.

Also many of the sunscreens out there are really not baby friendly so check with your pediatrician before you go to see what they recommend for suncreen so that little one does not get to much bad stuff absorbed into his skin.

When he is in the car seat on the stroller please keep it fastened just like he is in the car, the straps should be snug with no slack. Many people do not realize how close they get to strollers with car seats and if he gets bumped or heaven forbid tipped over having the straps secured will keep him from injury.

He will get hot in the car seat so taking him out after about 2 hours, even if he is sleeping, will help him to not overheat. I like that you plan on wearing him some of the time, it will be great for both of you.

Now for you, remember you are still healing so don't push yourself to hard, take some extra breaks and a nap if you get a chance. You know your body best but some rides that would normally be okay at another time may not be okay now. It is ok to not go on every single ride.

Since grandma is in a scooter if you take it at her pace (not the whirlwind children's pace) that will be perfect for everyone involved. Well the kids may think different as they want to go go go, but I think you know what I mean.

Now stepping out of my nurse role HAVE FUN. pixiedust:

Also take advantage of the photopass photographers and don't forget to take the little guy out of the stroller or the snugly to get him in the picture. :artist:

I would have someone watch the baby and just take the older ones. It means so much more to the older kids to get to ride with mom and dad and have the trip be about them and not the baby. You don't need to worry about napping, etc. I hate leaving my infant and rarely do, but this Disney trip was already planned and I don't want to take away from my DS9 and DD7's trip and when the baby is older, we will take him.
Just my opinion, but the babywill never remember and the older kids will always remember the special time they had with mom and dad.

I took DS at 6 months, and he slept in the Ergo for a lot of rides. However, he was on my hip, so I don't know if that made a difference (VS on my chest if he would have been allowed where there are lap bars.) No one ever said a word to me, but of course he was visibly asleep and perhaps that helped, haha!

I have never done it but I would. I think it's great you're not postponing the trip. A newborn will be easier at Disney than an 18 month old lol. It's great you have grandma there, lull still be able to do everything you originally planned. Congrats on your new little man. Lucky he's coming six weeks before and isn't due when you original,y booked. Whew. Great timing

I took my youngest DS when he was 6 weeks old (that was 11 years ago though) and I took him on everything in Fantasyland. He was mostly in a snugly or a sling and I had no problem taking him on any of the rides there. I don't know if they've changed their policy since then, but I know Uncle Walt's objective in building DL in the first place was so parents and children could ride together, so I think everything is geared to make that happen--even for the little tikes :) It seemed the only rides I could NOT take him on were the ones with a height requirement (of course), so I don't think you should have a problem.

I took my DD when she was just 5 weeks old. It never crossed my mind to leave her at home, but then, I was also in the park twice when I was preggo w/her, so we do the parks all the time when one of us may have to sit out for one reason or another. Our enjoyment comes from seeing the joy on our kiddos faces (though, yeah, we do enjoy the rides ourselves too!).

Anyways, I seem to recall being told a few times, though I think it was probably on a later trip, when she was a few months old, that she had to be sitting, I couldn't hold her, on some of the FL dark rides? I dunno, it was forever ago, so maybe I am just remembering wrong.

Since you have another adult with you, I encourage you to go. You could also do the parent swap with your mom so you both can enjoy the other rides with your kiddos and not have to wait in line twice.

I would have someone watch the baby and just take the older ones.

He'll be itty bitty and traveling from so far. I wouldn't leave him!

It'll be good to have help with you! We planned a trip and then it got cancelled, which is good because I am pregnant now and wasn't when we originally planned the trip. So it's postponed til our little guy is about 6mo and my DD will be almost 3. I've also invited some of my IL's for the fact that they can help with the baby, so I think you'll be okay.

I've been wondering the same about being able to wear the baby on rides, because that's what I have planned in my head ;)
