Hi. I'm new at this but I am trying to plan a trip to Disneyland for my family. I have 4 boys 4mos, 3, 5, and 6. My hubbie and I are trying to figure out when is the best time to go. October or early December? Do they do anything special for Halloween or Christmas like WDW? Thanks for any info. you can share.

The first weekend in October is Gay days at DL. With little kids you will want to avoid that - plus it draws large crowds.

A friend who has been at Christmas (all of Dec) says it is BEAUTIFUL! but avoid the weekends like the plague. Many locals come to see the decorations and special exhibits.

We took out kids the 2nd week of September and it was great. Still warm enough to swim, but low crowds. Now that they are older we are going to brave the summer crowds!

Definitely early December.

We went December 1 to December 5 and had a wonderful time.

Crowds were non-existent - we walked right on to rides like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain. It meant we could do as many rides as we wanted, and sometimes do them back to back. The only lengthy queue we had was for Peter Pan (20 minute wait) and that was only on the weekend - again, on the week day we walked straight on.

In addition, Haunted Mansion and Small World had special Christmas themes which were beautiful. There were fantastic lights and decorations throughout the park and a Christmas parade.

In DCA I didn't notice any decorations, but again queues were small. Soarin had a half hour wait but we bypassed tha with fastpass and got on within the hour. Grizzly river run was walk on, Tower of Terror and screamin were 10 minute waits.

It really does make all the difference when you walk straight on to rides and not spend most of your day queuing.

Christmas is beautiful at DLR. Me and the sweetpea love it. But like moustrom stated, avoid the weekends like the plauge. We made the mistake of going the first the first saturday this past december, ugh, more people than i would care to have been around. But, nothing beats the decorations and the feel during the christmas season.
