I feel at $10, its cheap enough that Disney maximizes value because everyone will be forced to get it. I almost wish it was a $20 per person service so that only a select few will want to splurge on the service and the FP won't run out so quickly.

I don't think everyone will be forced to get it at this point. Unless they add more to it...like scheduling ANY return time. Or something like that. Based on this thread alone, a lot of people don't seem like they'll be buying into it just yet.

$10/day for unlimited photos is a great deal. I would definitely do that for at least a day or two. But if I would need to pay $30 more per day for everyone to have mobile Fastpass (family of 4)...I don't know. Probably not just for the convenience of not having to walk to the kiosks. But if it means getting a FP or not...then probably yes. I hope kiosk and mobile will come from separate pools.

I'm not sure why it's a great deal. We paid $100 for the Photopass One Week option that also came with character breakfast prints (this was Nov. 2016). There were 5 people in our party, and all 5 were in the parks for 5 days (DH/DD/I actually did 6 days, but we'll say 5 for the sake of this discussion). $10/day/person for our party to have unlimited photos and the app FP option would be $250 extra - as opposed to the $100 we spent on Photopass One Week. So, basically, it's $150 for the app FP access for that 5 day trip? That's not a bargain to me...even including the unlimited photos. Photopass One Week on its own is less than 1/2 what the MaxPass would have cost us, and the One Week option came with some prints (which the MaxPass does not appear to).

It's a good deal for photopass because you could just have one person pay for the Maxpass for the week, $50 in your example. You'd save $50 over what you previously spent. There would be no need to buy the Maxpass for everyone in the party if you were just using it for photos.

If you read the Walt Disney World side of the boards, many Walt Disney World people actually did take their business to Disneyland who didn't want to deal with fast pass plus.
THat would be us. Haven't been there since our 2014 experience with FP+, and we weren't fans. We much prefer DLR - for many many reasons, but legacy FP is definitely one of those reasons.

This whole thing still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, it's not what Walt would've done. It creates classes based on wealth
I travel with my boyfriend, with just the two of us paying our own way, we can easily afford the max pass if we decide it's worth it for us.
But it's basically a class system disguised with a photo pass. Sure, staying onsite adds benefits like extra hours but nothing is lost to regular guests, indeed, you could argue off site has several advantages. There are a few things you can buy into like dessert packages but it has little to no impact on those who don't participate.
I am not sure I am comfortable grabbing fast passes via phone, saving tons of walking, enjoy more of the park leisurely, while zipping by big families with little kids who can't afford it.
It feels unDisney.

First of all, entry into disneyland by your definition is a class system based on wealth because there is an entry fee to get into the location. There are many things at Disneyland that I can not afford from Club 33 to elaborate memorabilia. There are other items that I also think are unjustified for their expense, which is everyone's choice to purchase or not (I would never eat at Blue Bayou as I think the expense is not worth the experience but others feel it is a must). Even in your own statement you acknowledge that there already exists extensive class structures due to on site benefits and dinner packages.

For myself, I am not happy as I will not be disneyland with a phone and feel that you have lost your mind when you spend your time on a phone while on vacation, but again for me it is a vacation while for locals it is just a day at the park. I am pleased that they have decided to maintain both forms of access for now, but I am sure it will eventually phase itself out.

I only scrolled through the last half of this thread so I apoligize if this was already answered...

From here: https://www.getawaytoday.com/blogs/2017-01-11/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-disneyland-m

It says:
Can I have multiple Fastpass tickets at a time with the Disneyland MaxPass?

No, the Disney MaxPass will only allow you to have the normal limit of one ticket at a time. The MaxPass will work exactly like the current Fastpass system, but allows you to schedule and redeem your Fastpass tickets with your mobile device via the Disneyland app. This is a HUGE perk since you won't have to run across the park or send someone to collect Fastpass tickets for your group. Just do it with the touch of a button while you're in line for an attraction, waiting for a show to start or grabbing some lunch! It's an awesome way to maximize your time in the park.

and
Will I still be able to get the normal paper Fastpass tickets in the park?

Yes, the paper Fastpass tickets will still be available in the park for all Fastpass enabled attractions if you don't have the Disneyland MaxPass. If you are using the Disneyland MaxPass you won't also be able to have a traditional Fastpass at the same time.

1) Does this mean that the sides are now connected with Max Pass? You can't have a MaxPass from DLR and DCA at the same time? And then there will be no disconnected rides at all?
2) It's either all or nothing MaxPass vs Fastpass? I can't start using MaxPass and then go to Fastpass if my phone dies or whataver? Or maybe you can switch off from one to the other?

I know that list is not necessarily official, just wondering how this will work.

If you're just using it for photos, I can see that..which is also likely why the 'introductory' price won't remain that for long.

Besides the wifi, who has a phone battery that lasts that long?
I doubt my iPhone would make it from rope drop to fireworks, maybe I am nuts but when I am in huge crowds like NBA games it seems like the signal is weak and/or the battery dies faster then normal.
So say I book a coveted nighttime RSR for night for our group and my battery dies....
They sell portable chargers in the park now. I believe they are $30 the first time you buy them, but they come charged. Obviously not ideal or cheap, but I'm sure there will be people who will bite that bullet to keep their phone functional.

I personally hit Disneyland with a portable charger or two already, but I take a lot of pictures on my phone and often play Pokemon while my kiddo takes a stroller nap, so I'm used to my battery tanking out.

They should have just upped the ticket prices by $10 a day and then given MaxPass to everyone for "free".
No, I think they know that their system couldn't possibly handle every guest booking FP online. By charging for it separately, they keep numbers down.

In all of WDW, there are only two attractions, neither of which is a headliner, that regularly have no FPs left at rope drop, and they're not even very good attractions. (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Frozen Ever After.)
Ummm they are the most popular attractions...when I went last year, neither Peter Pan nor splash mountain was available day of for fp+. In addition to mine train.

Yes, I too prefer just to leave my phone/purse in the room safe. I typically carry $20 and my ticket in my pocket and walk to the park.
I think I was mainly mulling over taking away from another guest experience, most of the extras currently don't detract from the average guest, i.e. you can definitely see Fantasmic without the dining package.
I am open minded, it may be an insignificant effect, we shall see.

I scanned through as much as I could in this thread, so I hope I'm not re-asking a question, but what I'm wondering is if they'll allow someone in DL to make a FP for a ride in DCA. Currently, I can go to DCA to grab a FP for Soarin' and then head straight into DL to grap a FP for Haunted Mansion before I ride Indiana Jones. The systems are separate and I enjoy that, especially since Anaheim's parks make it so easy to park-hop. The only possible reason I could see myself using the MaxPass is maximize on the different systems with only having to go to one park in the morning.

Also, I hold the AP for both Orlando and Anaheim but I live in So Cal. I go to the parks enough to not feel the need to pay $10 for a FP and I think most AP holders would agree. If I don't get a FP for a specific ride and don't feel like standing in line, no big deal, I'll catch it the next time.

Furthermore, we often get FP for late night times and if we decide to leave then we get to hand those paper tickets off to random people. It's always fun to do something nice and help spread the magic.

Disney was not clear in its announcement if the two system will remain separate, or might be combined. If it gets combined, it will happen to both the Paper version, and the MaxPass. In fact, it might get combined after the introduction, as Disney works out the problems and issues with the new system. As they say, only time will tell.

What Darkbeer said is true, and the way some of Disney's responses are worded makes it sound to me like they're considering combining DCA and DL, so that's something to watch for. But as to the other aspect of your question, yes, it seems you will be able to pull a FP for DCA while you're physically in DL. It's just that it might not be such an advantage if it turns out that will prevent you from pulling a FP in DL at the same time.

This makes me think that price increases are on the way for Annual Passes to include these "perks". They said that AP holders will have the choice of adding on but I think that will come in the form of upgrading your AP.

Does anyone think they will include this with their current Signature passes, along with the Premier pass? That would be awesome, but I wouldn't think so. Maybe just the Signature Plus and Premier.

It is just a guess, but it looks like the Signature Passes will get the new MaxPass at no extra charge, just like the current PhotoPass option.

Disney clearly stated they will announce it in the future, and why many folks expect it to be combined with new AP pricing announcement in February, which is also a guess.

I agree. This is a way for them to increase AP prices (top tier) with added perks and have it as an option for Deluxe and below.

Interesting. Thanks for this insight. I must say, I'll be surprised if Disney raises the AP prices. I know that sounds naive but their recent actions made me feel as though they were backpedaling on the blatant attempts to thin the AP herd. Bringing back the So Cal pass, adding perks, etc. in 2016 all pointed to encouraging APs. I would expect an increase in 2018 but thought they might see how things go in 2017.
