The announcement stated that both the Matterhorn and Toy Story Mania! would have traditional FP stations (aka Paper versions).

When MaxPass goes live, all FP attractions (except the Shows, aka World of Color and Fantasmic!) will be offered via the app, and the paper version.

The reason the Shows will remain Paper only has to do with logistics, as the new system will have special readers at the entrance point, and well, the shows have spread out entry zones, and those entrances can be adjusted due to crowd size.

All the news sources on TV say it's going to be launched next year, but I don't know if they are just guessing or it since Disney hasn't made an announcement.

If it's being launched next year I can see how they are going to revamp the AP prices to add in the maxpass option. I guess we will see.

I been a pass holder for 20 years and have seen sooooo many uncharges to our passes and this one I have mix feeling about. I understand this is all because of SWL, but I hope all the bugs are going to worked out before it opens. I go to Disneyland 1 or 2 time a month and with this $10 charge just adds to my pass and at this point I don't want to pay for it. Time will tell so I will just wait and see how it's all going to work. I agree with many we don't stay in the parks all day and night and we don't have to ride everything in one visit.

I guess my biggest beef is this: when I walk into a Disney Park, I'm on equal footing with everyone else. I have the same chance at a FP, at a dining reservation, at a parade spot. Yeah, yeah, I know they have the uber-expensive dining plans where you get a good spot at WOC, F!, or a parade....and I HATE THOSE! At WDW, at least in the past, to get a F! Dining Package, you just signed up for it like a dining reservation - totally free with your meal. DL has gone to the nickel-and-dime policy, and that's a shame.

But on the up side (sarcasm coming), Disney can see some great corporate advertising. MaxPass, brought to you by Always. GOTG Mission:Breakout, brought to you by Clearasil. What's next? Big Thunder Mt sponsored by Gas-Ex....California Screamin' sponsored by Wes Craven....

It just occurred to me that this will probably make casual trips with friends/non-family groups a bit more complicated. I recall coordinating a trip with several friends who were in very different financial situations and the question of parkhoppers came up. Sure, everyone could get whichever ticket they want, but if we didn't get the same kind either someone would end up getting "ditched" or someone would feel guilted out of using the parkhopper they paid for. Now on top of hoppers/single-park tickets, there's another tier of ticket to consider. If some people in your group have access while others don't, it will be that much more difficult to coordinate touring plans and FP return times. It's not the end of the world, it's just another aspect of this that I hadn't considered. It might sway me from considering whatever annual option they offer for AP's, since on some of my trips I might not want to make use of it even if I have it, if I'm with others who don't have it.

Disneyland has had corporate sponsors since its creation.

MaxPass sponsored by Maxi Pads?

Some of the articles about the MaxPass have said that you do can get a FP for an attraction in DCA while in DL and vice versa.

Posted on the Disneyland blog:

So if I purchase max pass and I’m in disneyland can I book a fast pass for a ride inside California adventure? Or would I have to leave disneyland and enter California adventure to do so?

  • If a guest is within the FASTPASS window (meaning able to reserve their next one), they can reserve a FASTPASS for Disneyland park if they are in Disney California Adventure and vice versa.

So its a double cash grab. Buy Maxipass. And make sure your tickets are Hoppers.

Nothing in the Max Pass is forcing you to buy a park hopper but having the Max Pass makes hoppers more appealing since you can get FP for either park from either park.

You can still use the Max Pass with a 1 park per day exactly the same way you can use Fast Passes with a 1 park per day ticket....you are just limited to Fast Passes in the park you are in.

As a side note, while I understand why many people are not exactly thrilled by the addition of the Max Pass, I just don't get the level of angst it seems to bring out in some. Heck, I don't think we will add it on to our passes, at least not at the price they have tossed around but I am not personally offended by the concept like some seem to be.

Except that when Disneyland first opened, the number of attractions you could ride was based solely on how much you paid. Your basic entry got you into the park and access to 9 attractions. If you wanted to ride more than that, you had to pay for a ticket for each attraction. At least now the cost is for unlimited attractions per day.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not sure if I will cough up the $200 CAD ($150 USD) extra it would cost our family of 3 for a typical 5 day trip but to say that it's not what Walt would have done is just not true.

Valid points here. I think we all tend to look at history through rose colored glasses and that is no different when thinking of Walt. I believe Walt was a creative genius and a great showman but he was also a businessman.

Now, having said that, I think people have the right to be upset about prices and the like but it always amuses me when folks dust off the old "Walt would never do that" or similar line.

When the park opened on July 18th, 1955, the basic admission was $1, and the rides were sold separately. The 9 attractions that we free were things like the Main Street Arcade, where you could watch others place coins in the games, and sponsored halls.

In October of 1955, after a very successful summer, Walt and his staff looked into ways to make things run more smoothly, and the ticket books were introduced.

It wasn't until Magic Mountain opened up in Valencia, that Disney looked into creating an "all-exclusive" ticket, first offered as a special ticket to folks like the Magic Kingdom Club, which was designed for local groups to get a discount, to compete with the new player in town, who started the main "unlimited rides" option in Theme Parks. By 1982, Disney dropped tickets all together, after a few years of having both options available.

This is an accurate rebuttal, but I think there is an even more fundamental point here:

Walt Disney is dead and has been for a long time.

He had no idea what changes would happen in society or at DL, and no chance to predict them. Thus we have no idea what he would think about this idea if he were alive today. If you look at the entire Disney corporate archive, you will not find a single scrap of paper where Walt Disney suggests that Disneyland should provide guests with free wifi. Does that mean DLR should not provide free wifi?

Whatever Walt Disney would want for DLR is unknowable and irrelevant.

I feel at $10, its cheap enough that Disney maximizes value because everyone will be forced to get it. I almost wish it was a $20 per person service so that only a select few will want to splurge on the service and the FP won't run out so quickly.

Besides the wifi, who has a phone battery that lasts that long?
I doubt my iPhone would make it from rope drop to fireworks, maybe I am nuts but when I am in huge crowds like NBA games it seems like the signal is weak and/or the battery dies faster then normal.
So say I book a coveted nighttime RSR for night for our group and my battery dies....

I think a lot of people are glossing over the "introductory price" part of this announcement. What will the price be after the "introduction" period? Don't get sucked into thinking this is a good deal because you get unlimited downloads of high-resolution PhotoPass images if that's only for the first couple of months before prices get jacked up.

And how much later in the day will your FPs be even though you got them first thing at park opening? Those who pay will already have "gotten there" first.

This also seems to be something that will harm families far more than individuals or couples. That seems a bit regressive, especially if you consider families will be spending more than individuals or couples to begin with.

It should be linked to your ticket, so you should be able to use the FPs just by them scanning the ticket. You just wouldn't be able to make additional reservations without a charge. Fuel Rod anyone? http://dlrprepschool.com/fuel-rod-chargers-at-disneyland/

My phone sure doesn't last all day at DL! We have a battery that I carry with us & it has 2 USB ports on it, so we can charge both my phone & DH's phone in my purse or backpack. It's come in handy.

Or...you could always pay $30 for 1 of those battery chargers that they're selling in kiosks now at DL & DCA...the kind were when it loses its charge, you can swap it out for a new one.

Maybe this is another "plus" to the whole strategy from Disney's point of view...to get individuals and couples to spend more money at the parks?
