Does anyone out there know the best way to get from Disneyland (I'll be staying across the street at Marriott) to the Amtrak train station. It's at 2150 E Katella Avenue.

Is there a bus on that route? HELP!!

:rolleyes1

You can take a bus from right in front of DL to the train station, or you can take ART. I'm not sure if either will allow you to take luggage aboard though. My suggestion is to call and ask. The other way is to take a taxi. The train station really isn't all that far away.

For ART check out www.rideart.org
for OCTA check out www.octa.net

Thanks so much for the information. I won't have any luggage. We're taking a day trip up to San Diego Zoo via the train. ::MinnieMo

Are you saying the ART bus goes right up to the Amtrak station? The city bus doesn't--according to the schedules I've printed, I'll have to walk from the corner of Katella and State College Blvd.

If ART takes you right to the station, I want to know! :listen:

Don't take the train from Anaheim.

Take the 43 Bus North from in front of the BW Park Plaza Inn (across the street from the East Shuttle Area).

It will take you to the parking lot of the Fullerton Amtrak Station

It takes about 20 to 25 mins. to get there on the bus, but the walk is much shorter than the bus to the Anaheim Amtrak station.

I go to the DL area from San Diego about 10 times a year and this is how I get there.

Ok. I'm missing something. I'm staying at Fairfield Inn across form Disneyland.

I'm taking the train from Anaheim to San Diego Zoo.

So I need to know the best way to get from my hotel to the Amtrak train station.

Right.

Don't take the train from Anaheim to San Diego. You take it from Fullerton to San Diego. It costs the same.

Take the 43 North (Fullerton) Orange County Bus from the bus stop that's in front of the Best Western Park Place Hotel. It goes directly to the Fullerton Amtrak station and you won't have to walk 4 blocks or so.

The Anaheim Amtrak Station doesn't have a bus that stops right in front of it. It's at least 4 blocks away or more. That's why I don't take the bus to it and go to Fullerton instead.

When you return take Amtrak from San Diego to Fullerton and then take the 43 South (Costa Mesa) bus and it stops at the East Shuttle area in front of Disneyland.

On the other hand, here's the route to get to Anaheim but I don't recommend it:

From the East Shuttle area in front of DL:

Take the 205 South & exit the bus at Katella and Haster Stop #270
Transfer to the 50 East and take it to E. Katella Ave and State College Blvd.
Then walk about 5 or 6 blocks to the Anaheim Amtrak station.

The reason that I recommended Fullerton is that it's takes 5 minutes longer on the train, but you only have to take 1 bus to get there and that bus stops about 1/2 block from the station.

It costs the same to take the train from Fullerton and Anaheim to San Diego.

rode amtrak last weekend for the first time, went from portland, or to san fransico, ca. train was 3 hours late getting into sanfransico and *5* hours late getting into portland. better ways to spend your vacation than wondering how far off schedule the train is this time. train personel very accepting of train being late, in fact they kept telling me to keep checking back to see how late it would be.

The Amtrak long distance trains such as the Coast Starlight do have a problem staying on time, but the Pacific Surfliner that runs from San Diego as far north as Santa Barbara does a much better job.

BTW, that's good advice to use the Fullerton station instead of Anaheim station if you're using OCTA buses to get to the station.

The Coast Starlight from Portland to CA leases track from Burlington Northern, so it has to pull into a turnout whenever BNRR decides to send a train along. It is chronically late. It is chronically crowded. It is chronically dirty and smelly. The bathrooms are disgusting.

It is, however, very cheap. In fact, when you factor in the price of shoe leather, toilet paper, and calories, I think it is cheaper than walking!!!!

IF you do decided to take the OCTA bus from Anaheim Station, its the #50 bus. (Will stop at the corner of Harbor & Katella) Going to the station, the bus does NOT make any announcement so you have to keep a sharp eye out. The Anaheim Station is buried deep in the Anaheim Angels' baseball parking lot, and as another poster said, about equal to walking 4 blocks back to Katella. On the flip side, its only about a $10 cab ride with the tip directly to DL from here.

Hmm, I'm very confused . . . in another thread, somebody suggested that I take Amtrak from downtown LA to get to DL, and that there was a shuttle bus from the Amtrak station to the parks. Sounds like that's not the case. :sad2:

I'm starting to think I've gotta rent a car. Ugh. But it'll be worth it -- I could really use some Disney this week! :earsboy:

I think there's a little talking past each other in this thread.

The fullerton station is very very close to the Anaheim station. In fact, they are only about 8 minutes apart by train -- it's one stop right after the other.

I think the point is that even though the Fullerton station is slightly further from Disneyland than the Anaheim station (the Fullerton station is up closer to Knotts, north of the disneyland), the bus from Fullerton to DL is a snap so you're better off just getting off one stop earlier and taking one bus right to the DL area.

I think the point is that what's the difference whether you get off in Anaheim or Fullerton? The question in your mind should not be which of those stations is technically a little closer to DL (they are both close), but which of those stations is more convenient to DL, and it sounds as though the answer is Fullerton.

Great job! Yes, that's what I got out of the postings. I already have my tickets from the Anaheim station, so I'll leave from Anahiem. :earsgirl:

Where can we pick up a 1-Day bus pass?

The OCTA busses can sell them when you get on at $3 each. If you're only going to DL and back, its a $1.25 each way.
