Disneyland Tinker Bell (Tinkerbell) 1/2 Marathon ** Jan 27-29, 2012 ** Check-In

Just wanted to see if anyone else will be joining the festivities on Tinkerbell Weekend!

How is everyone doing on their training? Are you getting excited and what is inspiring you?!

I will be running the 5K and TBHM. I hope to attend the Sunday DIS meet at DL hotel. It will depend on what the rest of my family is going. I am traveling from WA to CA and running the HM withe my sisters, niece, nephew, and nephew in-law.

Good times.

Next weekend, folks!!

OK, I have a dilemma - I need advice on what to wear for the Half so I don't freeze my tushy off before it all starts!

I'm excited because I got picked for the runDisney Meet Up with Jeff Galloway Saturday morning! We get training tips and get to run 2 miles with him INSIDE Disneyland!

Are you looking for race gear or stuff before the race that can get tossed? If it's before, really cheap ideas are those big black garbage bags. Just rip a hole in the bottom for your head and sides if you want to stick your arms through ~ sounds weird, but it really does keep you warm. Another one is to use an old pair of those knee high tube socks. Same concept~ cut off the toes for you hands and you can use those as arm warmers. Plus you can start to run w/ them and just toss them off to the sides. Also at Sports Authority and some Targets (in the $1 bins if they're still out and in stock) they have hand warmer packets for $1-2. Each pack comes w/ 2 and you shake them and they'll stay warm up to 4 hours.

If it's the race itself~ cheap mittens at Target, I think they have 2 pair/$1.50. You can wear them until you warm up and toss them to the side and won't be out a lot of $.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

I am bringing running tights and capris. I am torn on what to wear before the race- if anything- besides a long-sleeve running shirt. I don't want to check sweats because those are due at 5am and I wasn't going to leave my hotel until about 4:45am.

For some races, you can toss old sweatshirts to the side of the race route and they will pick them up and donate (assuming they are reusable). I don't think this race has that? That would honestly be ideal. I won't want to toss it until a few miles in...

The gloves are a great idea too, but I already did my target run and am packing now. They migtht have them at the Expo though.

I hope they will donate stuff, I always bring older stuff to throw down!!! It looks like it is going to be kinda warm at the start...45-50ish, much better then the 30ish I have been running in!!!!!!! I think I can...I think I can.....I think I can...

I'm packing big black garbage bags per a recommedation on the wish thread. Wear it before the race then take it off just before your corral is set to go. I'll be wearing Capri pants & a short sleeve shirt and also plan to get some cheap tube socks for my hands & arms. Then dump them to the side.

Look at these Tinker Bell Dooney purses! I think I'm more excited about the purse than the race now! :rotfl:

Just found this thread! I feel a bit better after seeing that others haven't been able to train as much too! Can't wait for this weekend and the 1/2! I bought some Tink wings to wear, we'll see how they hold up on the run!:)

Thanks for the tips everyone. It's my first Half and I'm just trying to get my bearings, lol.

Ugh, I want it!!! I will definitely be getting at least one. Does anyone know if we can use Disney giftcards to purchase and our AP discounts (I guess the same goes to the other merchandise they have in that area of the Expo)?

I guess I have another question! They do shuttles to get you to the start and all that right? I only did the 5K last year and drove myself. We'll be staying at the HOJO and just want to have a plan on how to get there for Sunday.

It'll be my 1st too!

They do have a shuttle and if you read the race instructions here (link found under Event Details): http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/events/rundisney/tinker-bell-half-marathon#pip-3
The last page of the pdf has info about it.

Yes you get an AP discount at the Expo, not sure about the Disney gift cards.

From the HoJo I think it would be best to just walk throught DTD to the start. The buses (ART) just drop you where they normally do.

Thanks for the link. I just saw that on the facebook page right after I posted the question. The whole shuttle thing makes me nervous but I always get that way when relying on something/someone else for transportation, lol. I must be strange, lol.

And good luck with your first Half!!

Thanks Sarah. I' hope we can use the giftcards as well. I need to save all the $$ I can get and I get discounts on Disney giftcards, lol. I guess I'll just have to find out when I get there.

I don't quite know if I want to walk all that way that early in the morning, lol. But it is do-able, lol.

You should be able to utilize your AP discount at the expo on runDisney and other Disney merchandise. You should also be able to use Disney gift cards as well. Other vendors probably won't accept your Disney discount, nor Disney gift cards--but I'm sure you knew that. :goodvibes

The map shows the shuttle drop off not to far from the HoJo. I know this is certainly a do-able walk, because I did it from the Quality Inn (the next hotel down past the HoJo on the opposite side of Manchester) for the 5K and the DL Half over Labor Day.

Yup, definitely expect not to use the discount and giftcards for the vendors. I just really want a Tinkerbell Dooney without going over my budget for the trip as far as my cash goes. I have a lot of giftcards to use and would love to use them on that.

Hm. I guess maybe we will walk, lol.
