Disneyland Ticket Price Increases:

To me this makes absolutely no sense at all. We are deluxe passholders and I was unfortunate enough to be there the week before the less expensive southern AP's were blocked out. I know it was my mistake for not looking at the calender and believe me it is a mistake I will not make again. It was a nightmare and had it been my first time at the park it probably would have been the last. I have never dealt with so many rude people who acted liked they owned the park. I am not trying to be unkind but the one day we did have in the park after they were blocked was a night and day difference. People were much friendlier and didn't try to trample you like the days prior. I do understand that not all of the people who have the cheaper AP's are rude and unkind but unfortunately we ran into far too many that were.

If Disney were to actually put every single penny of this increase toward the wages of the front line CMs who become our favorite characters, laugh their way through the world famous Jungle Cruise for the umpteenth time in a row, or exercise tremendous patience towards obnoxious and rude guests I would completely support this increase.

But why do I have the feeling that those very CMs, who right now are the only reason I'm even thinking of going back anytime soon, won't see much, if any, of an increase in their wages?

WOW! I am disappointed. My wife and I got PAP's a few months ago and are "locals". We live a little over an hour away from DLR and go every 2-3 weeks for a day. So far we have bought almost all of our gifts for our families there! We always have a meal, a snack and a treat when we go. We love DLR...it's our escape. It helps us relax and unwind. I also noticed a night and day difference between when the lower cost APers were there and blocked out. I was astounded how busy it was and then how much more dead the park was after they were out for the summer!!! I can't say though that we won't get PAP's again...we will have to see. Again though, I am disappointed.

I am also in shock with the price increase, it just plain sucks, I was hoping to get pap's next weekend, but with 5 of us that's more $ then I had planned to spend, so it's out.

Interesting information regarding prices. My DH just made a very interesting comment to me when I read him the (assumed to be) new prices here. He told me that his meal he buys regularly at the same fast food restaurant near his work used to cost $6.19. It now costs $6.82. I pulled up the calculator and that is a 10.17% increase. The PAP (anticipated) increase is 10.28%. The Southern California pass has the highest %age increase of 11.4%. Companies are raising prices as needed to continue. By the way, the Deluxe and SCS are only +7.4%.

A few thoughts on others' posts...

...I think they are only thinking of making more money but not really looking at the bigger picture of crowd control.

I know that the pricing of APs in relation to crowd levels has been discussed here, but (unless I missed something) I do not know why it is thought that these 2 are connected in the thought processes of Disney execs. I think they look at stats, patterns, and budgets when determining pricing.

Wouldn't it make sense that some/bulk of the ones that use the payment plan probably couldn't afford the AP in the first place, so would they really be spending in the park ?

It does not cost extra to use the payment plan, so why not use it? Using the payment plan does not in any way indicate inability to afford. All it indicates is the desire to pay out a large sum of money a little at a time instead of all at once. Very smart economics in fact if you make interest on the money sitting in the bank (as opposed to giving it all to Disney up front).

It really appears that Disney doesn't want my money, because I am not a socal APer. Am I wrong? Please socal people I am not hating on you I just don't get it

As I mentioned above, the Southern California passholder is actually the one getting hit the hardest.

am i shocked no but i also have decided not to renew my pap in sept when I go for the D23 expo. Not becuase i can't I just don't want to... there comes a time where one will say enough is enough. 400.00 plus each for my family of 5... not anymore...Guess i'll be trying to use my dvc points for RCI or just use DVC for accomadations and go to universal or legoland.

In a time where everyone everywhere is scaling back Disney does a increase... unbelievable.. What would Walt do????

Disney Dreams, thank you for doing the math! I admit that just by reading the increase amounts, the numbers seem unfairly skewed, but when looked at as a percentage, it is really pretty even all the way down the line. In this economy, and with all the improvements at DCA, ect, we had to see this coming. Granted, I am not an AP holder so these numbers don't hold the same meaning for me, but I know that when I return my Hopper will be significantly more....and to me it will be worth it. Disney has me suckered in.....

I think what has many deluxe and premium APs unhappy is the actual amount it went up. Last year, the premium price went from $379 to $389, so when people see a $40 jump they get sticker shock and start to worry that it's only going to get worse.

If I were to take a wild guess (and it really is a wild guess - I don't know any more than y'all do), DLR is trying to have it's Annual Passports at the same price point as Tokyo Disney Resort, which is similar to the Disneyland Resort in that it has two Theme Parks and a large Guest base motivated to visit by an affinity with the Disney Brand and Heritage

Good question...I am using the gift card to upgrade to DAP...unless I figure it isn't worth it...

After thinking about it for a day im still really upset about the huge price hike and agree with most of what you all are saying, but in the end my husband and I will still renew this year. Even at the ridiculous price the PAP is still the best option for how often and when we usually go. And even though it is an ungodly amount of money for the tickets the way I look at it is that its nothing compared to my husband's Warrior and Earthquakes season ticket costs, he told me he would not purchase these this year so that we could put the money into something we both enjoy. We do enjoy the parks and the happiness and excitement we get out of these trips is still worth that price to us, not to mention the discounts we get with our APs. It sucks but its life... it won't diminish my next 3 trips on the calendar already.

The price hike does not affect our decision not to renew...we knew from the beginning that we'd only have AP's for 1 year. However, it does make me question their thinking kwim.

If I buy an DAP online, when does it start for the 12 months? Today, when I click the button, or in 5 months when we visit for the first time on it? Seems like to me I should wait and use the parkhopper money to apply for it then instead of now if it starts now.

I like many many others from out of the "local" area spend a ton of $ in the parks and the hotels.

I'm kind of a local...we live about 2 hours away. I gotta say though, locals spend alot of money in the parks as well of out of towners. If you wanted to break down hours in the park to money spend ratio, I bet even the casual local will come out even or ahead.
The payment plan is actually making us go more often than wqe did last time we lived in California, since every month I see that $90 coming out of my bank account. We went with the payment plan because for a family of 5, our only option was credit cards, and Disney doesn't charge interest.
Another thing to consider, and I was unsure as to post in this thread or in the "AP psych 101" thread- many of the die-hard Disney fans, the ones who waited 6 hours to ride nemo, AREN'T the cheap so-cal AP holders...generally those are DAP or PAP holders. Those are the APs who can't not have a Dole Whip and 2 churros per visit, and who stand in line to buy a new figure that just came out.

They start when you first use them, but find out when they expire before you buy online. I have heard anything from 30-90 days.

I live an hour away...I dont consider myself a local but we do have AP's and have already spent 17 days in the parks on this AP and have many more ahead. That being said each time we eat ALL of our meals in the parks. If you figure an average of 35 dollars a meal for us, well...we have spent more than most out of towners on food this year. (17*105=1785 dollars!) And if you figure in our gift purchases, hats, snacks etc...that number only gets bigger. So while you assume that us ''locals'' dont spend money and only crowd the park...you are wrong. I may not spend the night in a hotel but when I am at the parks I spend money.

Yes I hope they figure our their blackout day issues but I bet if you asked the locals on this board which AP they have you will not see the cheaper ones as their answers. Thanks...jmo.

I bought our PAP online last year in June, got them in the mail and realized they had a July expiration date and freaked cuz our trip wasn't until Oct. I called and the castmember explained to me that they put the exp. date on them to encourage people to use them faster so they don't lose them ect. but it wasn't written in stone. We had no problem getting our AP after hanging on to them for a few months.
