Disneyland Secrets

thanks! can you get a map of the park hidden Mickey's or no?

There is a book Hidden Mickeys Guide: A Field Guide to Disneyland Resort's Best Kept Secrets. It is for sale in the Compass book store located in Downtown Disney toward the Disneyland hotel end. I have never used it, but have flicked through it and it looks useful!

Sleeping Beauty’s castle is based largely on “Mad King” Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, but with one big difference: the top is on backwards.

The castle is actually in Germany. I climbed a huge mountain just to see it.
And Sleeping Beauty's Castle is actually backwards. One day a imagineer had turned the model of the castle backwards and didn't turn it back to it's original spot. Later Walt came and saw the castle in it's new position and liked it better, so it stayed that way.

The entrance plaza to the park was intentionally designed to mimic entering a movie theater. Walt wanted people to believe that they were literally walking into live, 3D versions of his movies. Walking into the two tunnels (under the train tracks) simulates having to walk down the side aisles of a movie theater. As soon as you get out of the tunnels, you smell popcorn from the carts in Main Street Plaza, another intentional movie reference.

Walt originally wanted to have curtains on the tunnels and have them open and close as guests walked in. But since ppl keep walking in and out of them, we can see why he didn't keep this idea.

The Hidden Mickey book can actually be purchased in the parks (DL & DCA) and in WOD, not just Compass.

The Hidden Mickey is GREAT! It really helps the kids (and me) pass the time while waiting in lines. We like to read what HMs are on the ride and then try to find them. There is an index that lists each attraction so it is easy to use.

First off this thread is awesome:thumbsup2 . I just wanted to mention what a CM told me recently. When walking through the castle you will see a clock, well the CM went on to say the time it is displaying is the time the Walt Disney passed away. I think it read 4:01 if I remember correctly. Can anyone verify that it is true?

I happened to read your post during our trip, so I snapped these two shots for you when we went back to Disneyland the next morning :)

Here are some that I have heard-
.

-The two entry tunnels (as mentioned above) are nicknamed "Voms" (short for vomitoriums) by CMs. For some unknown reason, kids frequently throw-up in the tunnels. :confused3

:thumbsup2 Great thread!!!

It's a stage reference! Vomitorium was/ is the tunnel underneath the seats entering onto the stage of a theatre!

There used to be Mermaids in the submarine lagoon. Now I am not near old enough to have been able to witness them first hand, but I have heard its true. How cool would that be if they came back with the new Nemo ride!! Wishful thinking I know!!

Here's one I learned recently. Not sure if it's on this thread yet. Over in California Adventure the plane sticking out of Taste Pilots Grill is a replica of the one Chuck Yeager flew when he broke the sound barrier for the first time. In the store across the way there is a clock with a cracked face. It is stopped at the time that the sound barrier was broken.

So does anyone know why that clock is stopped in Sleeping Beauty's castle? Maybe related to the movie when the fairies make everyone fall asleep? I have no idea, just was wondering! :confused3

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it just died and they never fixed it lol
