Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I’m sure there is a way Disney can keep capacity & masks past the 15th and not require the vaccination. Once they want to drop masks/capacity, then they would have to require it. I don’t see the state forcing it on the 15th if a private business doesn’t want to do it.

I don’t see Disney, nor the state, forcing that no child under the age of 16 can go, which is exactly what this would do. I can see them making an announcement for a further date where it will be required, but with enough notice for people to actually get fully vaccinated.

Just my opinion.

Hopefully this is just a rumor anyway. I mean, "someone on Twitter heard" doesn't always pan out, you know? I hope you are able to take your trip as planned!

Me too!

The state has a lot of arbitrary rules, which we all know. I can’t imagine them screwing over Disney this way. Can you imagine the outrage of people (like me) if trips have to be cancelled or cut short in the middle. Especially when I’m doing the right thing and getting them vaccinated!

But I really do believe, if it’s true, it’s an either/or for a grace period. Either fully vaccinated or keep capacity/masks.

I was personally really surprised when I saw it considering Newsom was just quoted days ago about losing masks after June 15th (even though he walked some of those comments back) and how there would be "no restrictions on any businesses." Can you imagine the media on this? "Only vaccinated guests can visit theme parks in CA" or however it would be phrased.

I'm just surprised, seems like the opposite direction in where he's been going with all his interviews/tweets/whatever. But at this point, who really knows.

I so hope you are right. Our next trip will be cancelled if they do require vaccinations. I have mine but my husband is not getting his. Same with our friends we are going with. She won't take the kids without him so our trip will be cancelled. If we do ended up cancelling I'll take my daughter another time just the two of us.

I don't know, I feel like they've been pretty consistent in how they've been screwing Disney over for awhile now.

But hopefully this is all just rumor and you'll be good to go for your trip! Sounds like a headache all around. But to be fair, if out of state guests have to show vaccination proof (if that stays in place) then really it doesn't make sense to not have CA-residents show proof too. So maybe that's part of the logic?

Oi vey.

To be clear since it appears I’ve stirred up a mini hornets nest. Disney is free to require proof of vaccinations should they choose to go that route. The doubious, unconfirmed tweet was about the requirement coming down from state government, which would would take some serious legal gymnastics and sets up a potentially scary future that no one should be in support of.

They already allow proof of vaccination for entry into more condensed seating sections at sporting events and concerts. I don’t think expanding that to theme parks would be that far off. My guess is the requirement will be either 12+ guests required to show proof of vaccination and then the theme park can eliminate masks and distancing requirements. Or theme parks can let anyone in but must maintain mask policy and social distancing. Theme parks will be able to choose which policy they want to follow.

Most supermarket pharmacies have walk in availablity. Check your local ones today. Usually they do walk ins from 11-4pm.

Your child won't feel sick the day after the second pfizer shot, most likely. My 16 year old felt fine, as did me and my husband. If you're driving anyway, he can rest if he's not feeling great.

I wouldn't expect Disney to have any leeway if the state makes this a rule as of June 16.

Okay, you convinced me to be prepared. Scheduled DS for Monday and his second shot near where we'll be on vacation. Will be a low key trip, so in case he feels sick, I'd rather it be there than in the car (possibility of throw up!). If it looks like this isn't happening right away, then I can delay his second until we're back. Would be 4 weeks, which I think is fine. When DH got his at Walgreens, they were scheduling everyone at 4 weeks, even the Pfizer folks.

This is what I believe. It will be an either/or. But for fun I’ve emailed both CDPH and Disney to ask 🤣 I don’t actually expect to get any useable information back in response, but felt better asking anyway.

Hi, the tweet was from Joe Kleiman of In-Park Magazine who has sources in the CA Public Health Department. Joe did say the vaccination requirement is not nailed down and the final guidelines are expected after Memorial Day.
That’s similar to what the article I just posted said too. They expect information for mask mandates at the end of the month. Hopefully they’re able to do the math and realize not a single 12-15 yr old can be fully vaccinated by 6/15 in the US.

Follow up reply from the owner of that tweet - the vaccine requirement is being discussed/considered. Nothing has been finalized. And that he believes mask mandates will still be around, but other restrictions will be loosened with vaccine proof. Since I clearly got myself worked up over it, I’m going to sit back and hope that the powers that be see the flaws in the immediate plan and come up with a workable timeline that makes it as fair to people across the board.

ETA: I know other people got this basic response. Just adding what he replied to me.

I am sure Disney is fighting this tooth and nail. They do NOT want the controversy of asking for vaccine proof. WDW said the instant this came up (before FL was like 'nope') they wouldn't consider it. And now look at how they've decided not to with out of state folks when that guideline got changed. They don't want to deal with it. I'm sure they will to stay open if they have to but I guarantee you there's some behind the scenes arguing happening.

For anybody curious, CDPH emailed me back and said they don't have any direct information yet to answer my question. Sort of what I was expecting to hear back.

So I've thought about this more this afternoon and the way things have always been in CA is that local authorities can make restrictions more conservative. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my end, but I think even if the state allows mask mandates to be dropped, I don't see them FORCING Disney to do it. I think it will be left up to individual businesses to do what they say fit. So I think Disney keeps distance/masks for a little longer. And that they'll forgo the expanded capacity allowance that would likely come with vaccine proof. I think it will be similar to how concerts, sporting events, etc are done.

ETA: a well known, often quoted Disney influencer/knowledge guru thinks this is nothing more than rumors. FWIW.
