Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

WDW does not have the restrictions that Disneyland has, though. You can't compare them. There also weren't 3+ hour long lines to get into Disney Springs at any given time. Disneyland Resort has had to contend with all sorts of state restrictions that WDW never did.

Actually there were really long lines 2+ hours to get into disney springs.

Ok, so further proof that they will not let long lines deter them from carrying out the health and safety protocols they have put in place. If they aren't willing to compromise on those, they won't compromise on a state mandate either.

That was one day on Black Friday... Doesn’t even compare to DTD consistently having 1+ hour waits to enter.

It feels like this has gone beyond speculation become arguing for arguments sake, borderline encouraging people to try to skirt the rules on an off-chance they won’t have their IDs checked. It will all be settled on April 30th. For now, Disney CMs are telling people that they WILL be checking for valid California IDs.

Is FOMO that bad that people want to encourage/empower guests to break Disney's CA only restriction just to go a few weeks early? The state's target date of June 15th "reopening" seems more likely everyday. I think capacity limits will stay for some time but I don't see Disney keeping the CA only restriction once the state gives "all clear" on reopening.

Exactly. I don't understand the insistence that Disney is going to just skirt the rules after the numerous statements they have made to the contrary. It's a bizarre claim not backed up by history with the Disney company operations.

People need to remember that places like Sea World, Legoland and Six Flagsare absolutely DESPERATE for paying guests. Of course they will go as far as they can get away with. Disney isn't that hard up, clearly indicated by their lack of annual pass or local discount ticket offers. They are fine to sit and wait. Case numbers in Orange county and state wide are on a continued decline while vaccine numbers keep climbing. June 15 is a pretty sure thing at this point. They will only have to do these ID checks regularly for probably the first week before the word gets out that they are not playing. Then they can pull back if it seems to be causing significant issues at the gates, which I don't forsee.

Not encouraging people to break the rules. Some people think every adult guest will have their ID checked, I think they will not check IDs just like almost every other them park in California is doing.

California never gave guidelines on how theme parks need to verify that park goers are California residents. Plus several people don't have a state issued ID.

Also, Disney only needs to check ID at first ticket use where they'll check ID take you photo and be done with it for the length of validity for that ticket.

Exactly. They only sold tickets to people who confirmed they were California residents (they clicked a box and promised). We will bring ours of course but I don't expect to have it checked.

Because it's interesting to speculate how they will handle an arbitrary, completely nonsensical restriction.

Disneyland has an established MO for checking ID at the turnstiles. They already have the plastic barriers up and will scan tickets (they did at ToD) and give back tickets too. They do check IDs for valid matchs -- eg SoCal resident passes were checked. So if not Driver's License, they accept things like utility bill matching some other form of picture ID if no license --- just like a school would for residency verification.

And totally agree, Disney is fine with queues backing to harbor and into DD. They even have all the Disney lane to use if they continue to hold off on using the trams to queue into instead of backing into DTD.

But there are MANY people (like me) who are out of state who already have tickets from before the closure. Not that I'm planning on going before the restriction is lifted, but there are others who may not be so circumspect.

I had tickets from before as well. I just meant Disney still required the person to click that they were CA residents when they made reservations so techinally they did follow State guidelines.

However it all pans out, as long as it doesn't require me to get my unvaccinated kids Covid tested in order for our trip to happen, I'm good!
I'm still hopeful that my currently unvaccinated 14 year old, and my 13 & 15 year old niece and nephew will have at least 1 shot before our Memorial Day trip. Local pharmacist mentioned back in January that they thought they'd get to teens by May. Nothing definitive, but those Pfizer initial reports makes me think they might be right. I'd be willing to get the kids tested before our trip, but annoyed. The teens in my family are all waiting not-so-patiently for their turn.

One of the big doctors was on the Today show this morning (can't remember his name), and he thought that age group would probably be okayed in a month or so. This is consistent with the time frame my doctor sis had mentioned, so crossing fingers for you. Her youngest child is in that age group and she's been following. The eligible teens in my extended family have all had at least one shot--they found success at the mass vaccination sites if you have any by you. My sister did her two teens on Tuesday in Oakland and my brother did his with his teen last week at Dodger.

I don’t plan to travel to DL until I know for a fact that my kids and I are ok to go. DH and I are vaccinated, but our young kids aren’t because they can’t be. Also, I want to make sure I’ll have a good time when I go, and many of the restaurants and experiences still aren’t open that we always go to (Napa Rose, Storytellers Cafe, etc). I don’t know that it would feel like a DL trip if we couldn’t eat there and see the fireworks at CA from the terrace at VGC. :/ WDW is closer for us and easier to get there. I don’t want to cancel my DL trip in the fall, but I’m prepared to unless there are quite a few changes between now and end of July when we have to make the decision. I’m sure there will be plenty of people willing to go even if we aren’t.

Great news re: vaccinations for 12 and up! My son is 11 so we've got a bit to wait. My anxiety level would just feel better if he was covered, mom worry and all that.

I still stick to my opinion that June 15th will be the go ahead for us out of state folks because Disney won't want to mess with all this overly complicated vaccine/negative test proof business. But you never know what Disney will do these days.

I'm feeling like this too. At WDW it isn't necessarily my "home" park so having certain dining/experiences gone didn't bother me because I didn't know what I was missing. I know DLR like the back of my hand, I will notice every little single thing that's missing.... even if it's just something like Carnation Café. I'll wait and see how it plays out before rushing back the instant we can.

Just having the restriction lifted, even if you're not visiting until later in the year, would just be a weight off the shoulders. Makes the planning part fun again instead of stressful.

You put to much faith in people to think that every single person will have their ID ready to go. Every time I fly at least half of the people have to dig through their purse or wallet to get their ID out at the TSA agent stand.

It's my lot in life that I'm always behind the family of eight at rope drop that has no idea where their tickets are and have to start emptying pockets and digging in backpacks. :rotfl2:

I have heard the same thing about next month for 12-15, which would be awesome. I know since it's the same dosing as the 16+ for Pfizer, they're looking at amending the EUA instead of having to apply for a new one. So I suppose it's possible for two of mine to get their first dose, possibly even their second. So protection, that's awesome. If they require it for entrance though, it'll be hard pressed to count since it has to be FULLY vaccinated, which is 2 weeks past the 2nd dose. The calendar just isn't in my favor on that one.

ETA: My 17 year old will be 2 weeks post her 2nd on Sat, DH on Tuesday and myself the following Sat.
