Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

A plan being announced soon does not mean the parks will open soon.
Let’s look at it this way. If the assumption that Theme Parks might not be allowed at all until Orange and it could very likely be Yellow it is 6 - 9 weeks AT MINIMUM until OC would be able to open Theme Parks. And that is if OC continues its dramatic downward trend of positive tests. I know a lot of you are just ignoring my realistic (not pixie dusted) view point but there it is anyway.
All they said was that announcement should be coming soon. We get it, you “don't think” parks are opening anytime soon. That’s great. Let the rest of us converse about the various thoughts we have. Please stop conflating your opinion for a “realistic” view. You are not a Disney Exec, Newsom, Politician, or anyone with any more information or insight than the rest of us. Please let the rest of us discuss what we think without having your opinion forced on us. Thank you.

We are VERY tempted to try that as well....but we have never been to WDW and that is what is scaring me a bit (planning an official WDW trip for 2022)! We even looked into flights and saw what you are talking about-not a whole lot for the times we are wanting to try. Super frustrating!

This is the same for us. Disney World is just so much more expensive coming from the PNW. I priced everything out this morning and put in specific prices on my spreadsheet, adding one extra day because of the flight distance our trip goes from $4131 to $6197. DL vs WDW. That includes all meals and spending money. That also includes if we decide to use our miles for this trip instead of a different trip, if we decide to save for our other trip it's another plane ticket so $420 more. I definitely understand it's a fluid situation with California's cases and rules but I'm getting a bit bummed. Plus I'm from Washington and we've been pretty much on lockdown or modified lockdown since March as well.

Yes, we are in CA and same!

One thing that concerns me traveling all the way to Florida from California is the issues with flights. I've had other friends travel this summer and have gone through multiple cancelled flights due to planes being empty. They thankfully got to rebook without any extra costs, but that would be stressful for me.

Not to mention Disney said that one of their hotels won't be opening until 2021 :( I'd be worried that this would happen at other hotels, or the one we book at. I know you can still rebook without issue, but that again would stress me out with all the hotel changes.

Gah! The woes of trying to travel during a pandemic lol

If we go I am looking at the Disney Springs Hotels. With the parks closing early we would do more dinners at Disney Springs, it would save us a little money with the added flight costs.

That's us too. If we go it will be about $500 in savings overall by staying off-site, but with a fabulous pool and lazy river. And that was the very lowest tier or hotel onsite. I still haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've got reservations all throughout December, January, and February in Anaheim. I'll probably end up sticking it out.

I really am surprised they haven’t opened up anything, or even put some popcorn and churro carts down at the end of DTD or... anything. Seems like some missed opportunities.

I've been thinking about this (because what else to I have to do LOL)... I don't think most of the churro/pretzel/popcorn carts inside the parks are actually all that mobile despite their appearance. They all have dedicated power hookups and a number of them even have little sinks/water hook ups. I don't know if they could replicate that in the esplanade? There are certainly other carts that are totally mobile though (ice cream, drinks, the ones that sell boxed popcorn) and it does seem like they could wheel those out but I don't know if they'd have the same draw (plus the potential non-compete stuff with DTD vendors others mentioned).

Separately, count me in the "I'd do WDW if it wasn't a cross-country flight away camp..." Sigh. If I was even in the midwest I'd probably just drive there but to do so from SF seems a tad too far to really consider that given how much vacation time it would take just to get there and back.

Shouldn’t 2021 dates be opening up soon too? I wonder if that will be delayed until an announcement is made?

To everyone participating in this thread: There is enough room here for people to express opinions on both sides of this discussion; and so far we've managed to do this pretty well. That said, let's remember to keep things respectful, courteous, and as gracious toward the "opposing" side as we can. Remember that no one is having an easy, stress free time during this pandemic. No matter what anyone thinks about the theme park reopening question, I think we all agree that there is a great deal riding on every decision that gets made and that no one is going to be completely happy with those decisions. But we can agree to keep working together to have a thoughtful and meaningful discussion on a topic that matters a great deal to many of us.
So let's get back to it!

OK everyone, what do you say we get some fun "speculating" going again? What do you think will be the ride that the most people will want to ride first when they reopen? Me?
DCA: Cars ride (as my family calls it)
Disneyland: Probably anything at Galaxy's edge, but my oldie but goody pick would be Pirates.

I just wanted you to know that I happen to agree with you 100%. I know we are in the minority, but it is what it is. I cancelled a WDW trip for this month because I did not consider it safe to go and I did not think a 5 hour flight was a good idea.

I’ll agree with Radiator springs Racers

in DL- I’m going to say Haunted Mansion

DCA: Soarin, RSR, then Monsters
DL: Space Mountain, Indy, and Haunted Mansion

We already made our list. It will either be Indy or Haunted Mansion at DL, we keep swapping those ones. At DCA I think everyone will go for the racers but we'll go for Toy Story.
