Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

We were last there in Feb, but missed our Mar/Apr visits and 'feeling it'.

We would be fine with a hotel staycation with DTD take away food to hotel for a day or two. I seriously can't fathom cheaper to operate at even 25% capacity and $200/night than completely shutdown. The spend on merch and food alone will support DTD that much more and move us along the path. That's what they did at Disney Shanghai for several weeks prior to the land opening.

I’m with you.... I think we’d go unless the pool was packed. I read some analyst predicts Disney parks won’t fully recover until 2025. Who knows if he’s accurate. https://m.benzinga.com/article/16655335

GAHHHHH come on OC!!!!

They still have fewer cases per 100,000 people than LA, Riverside and San Bernardino. It’s all so confusing. I just know I miss Disneyland! We were there a year ago today!

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Whatever. Click bait headline with not much substance.

Our test positivity rate is down to 12.4% and cases per 100,000 is down to 183. These are significant improvements over the last 2 weeks. We (OC) are moving in the right direction.

Oh I totally agree with the clickbait. So glad things are improving in OC. The media makes you feel like the sky is falling. I just don’t follow the data in OC like SD. Hopefully the trend down continues and we are celebrating a Disneyland reopening before my 4 year old turns 5 in January. 🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

The DLR hotels, if open, would not just be required to significantly increase staffing, but all associated costs would immediately escalate. The costs for running a hotel go way beyond unlocking the doors; consider the huge increase in staffing, cleaning, power, maintenance, food, beverages, guest services, etc etc etc. The bills for a hotel of that size are enormous. I don't know how the costs would compare between an empty hotel with a skeleton staff and most things shut down to having to open almost everything up and plug the cords back in, so to speak, in order to provide the proper environment for whatever number of guests would consider staying there when the parks are closed. My guess is that it wouldn't even be considered because it would be cheaper to keep the hotels closed, shuttered, and eat the revenue loss than to open them with all of those associated costs when the likelihood of attracting a lot of guests is probably small.

ETA: and the fact that we're all on a Disney fan board doesn't make us the best judges of what most people would want to do.

I originally had a back up reservation at the Courtyard Marriott Theme Park Entrance in August. I thought I had canceled but I guess I didn't(oops!). Anyway, I received a a cancelation email stating they would be closed until September first today.
I noticed Grand Legacy is also not opening until September 1.

Reminder for everyone participating in this thread: Please keep the discussion on topic. If your post does not relate to DLR's reopening/speculation about the reopening, it will be deleted. This is not the thread for discussing people's opinions about different counties. Do not try to post about virus stats and public health on their own, and then slip something about DLR in at the end. Keep your posts on topic so that this thread can keep moving forward.
For those who are trying to stay on topic and to get the thread back when it starts straying off course, a sincere thank you.

Disneyland's reopening depends almost entirely on those stats, though. Why can't we look at the numbers and apply any speculation that results from either an increase or decrease in the metrics being looked at for reopening?

I actually agree that the parks will not return to *2019-level* profitability until 2025. Keyword 2019, which was a pretty darn good year for Disney parks. Parks will be profitable much earlier, but not to those levels. I think that has more to do with the economy as a whole more than anything.

That actually does well for those who can afford a trip as the parks will probably be less crowded.

On a side note, if you look at the analyst's historical record vs. stock price for DIS, he was pretty bad. Really bad. If you followed his advice, you'd have lost 12.4% of your money. All of his hold recommendations came before a run up in stock price, followed by buy recommendations near the localized peaks. This is a terrible track record :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

You don’t have to participate in the thread if the rules or guidelines bother you. Speculating about DLR is not predicated on Covid numbers. Many conversations have focused solely on conjecture of what CA and/ OC will do which is not necessary to talk about DLR’s possible Reopening. Just because people are responding one way to numbers now does not mean they will respond the same way later. If you absolutely need to talk about COVID conjecture there are other forums for that.

ETA: there’s a fine line, that is all. So if the Covid info that we are sharing is directly related, then it should be fine, but it’s the opinions about the numbers and counties alone that are off topic. This whole thing is unprecedented and fluctuating, and pretending to know exactly how business and political officials will handle it is asinine-and starts to get away from DLR reopening pretty quickly.

So....my DH and I have noticed a lot more activity going on while watching the Mattercam. Also watched a youtube video and they saw the head chef for Jolly Holiday. In the same video, they were near one of the ticket booths and there were CMs inside. The CMs were not in a uniform, but more of office type clothing. We saw a lot of CMs dressed in office type clothing when we went to DTD. My question is, what are they doing in the ticket booths? Why was the chef there? Is he prepping for opening? Taking inventory? Doing deep cleaning? Ordering food for opening? Reducing the menu for opening? Preparing food for the CMs? So. Many. Questions!!!!!! But I, being an optimist, will take all of this as a good sign :goodvibes

Eeeeeppp fingers crossed these are good signs. I need to watch this Mattercam and spy on the parks haha

So we try and stay in our county, but yesterday, when my little one told me that her lovie was her best friend because she doesn’t have friends anymore because of Covid, my heart broke. So this morning I surprised them with a trip to Downtown Disney. We spent a ton of money at World of Disney, and had a great time. We arrived about 11:45, and crowds were low. When we left at 2, it was more crowded. Everyone wore masks, and anyone walking and drinking or eating was told to stop. We went and said hello to Disneyland, and I cried. I miss it so much. It feels like this huge void.... this wonderful place we used to visit at least once a month. It felt so good to be on property. I don’t feel like it’s any riskier than Costco or the grocery store. Really looking forward to the day we can walk on Main Street again. My heart goes out to the other businesses and hotels in Anaheim.... I cannot imagine how much they are struggling. If anyone can successfully and safely open a theme park during a pandemic, Disney can, and we need to get it open. If you disagree, that’s fine, but I have zero interest in discussing that or in being told how wrong you think I am. Thanks. I’ve attached a photo of my beauties.
