Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Reopening the hotels while we can't do indoor dining makes no sense. There aren't enough dining options available onsite right now to support the hotels being open. Most restaurants in DtD are still not open.

Chicken/Egg thing with restaurants especially contained area like DTD. If you have hotel patrons there to order take out....probably would open my shop for that opportunity.

I know we'd keep our VGC for last week of Aug if it opens. Right now, we have Yosemite as backup.

La Jolla shores and Encinitas need to get it together more though. It has improved overall. The challenge will again be compliance when bars reopen. Physical distance without mask in congested places simply is going to be extremely difficult. Clubs? No go.

I agree that DLR hotels should open with at least DTD already open. Would naturally increase foot traffic there. We'd go for a few days just to get out of town. Already did it with Big Bear

They need to just keep bars closed. Solana Beach needs to get it together as well. I can’t tell if it’s tourists not wearing masks or locals.

I think the hotels opening without indoor dining is a big issue.

Grand Californian has outside dining that could be used by hotel guests. That could be an incentive to staying onsite while the parks are still closed.

What they have is not nearly enough to handle the demand that would exist if it was literally the only place you could get food at the resort. Remember the Disneyland hotel won't be opening.

That is true, but perhaps they can make it reservations only?

That would just make it worse, I think.

Really, the hotels cannot even think about opening until indoor dining is cleared to resume again. They would need Downtown Disney to be almost fully open to even justify thinking about reopening the hotels without the parks open.

As things are now, DtD is maybe operating at 1/4 to 1/3. Hardly anything is open.

You are right. I think my desire for Disneyland to open is clouding my judgement.

I'm honestly not even sure if OC has cleared hotels to open to leisure travelers yet. Last I heard, they had not. Driving through Anaheim on the way to DtD, all the hotels appear closed, with cones or tape up across the entrances.

My son said "it's like a ghost town." It really is. It's kind of eerie.

I think Hearthstone lounge also has outside seating.

Kind of. They have like 4 tables. The space isn't very big out there. It's really not a feasible option. Remember, even with outdoor dining, you have to space the tables apart, which essentially cuts down the capacity by half.

Trust me, I'd love to see everything back open, but hotels opening up while indoor dining isn't allowed is not going to happen. There is just no way to make it work.

This is me. I'm thinking/hoping maybe they will get creative if the park isn't open. Kind of like how Knotts is doing a food festival. They could do something like that with DTD, and maybe just open the restaurants in the hotels. Downside is that can bring in a lot of people since it's Disney. Knotts is a little more lowkey.

The DtD restaurants that have outdoor dining space ALREADY haven't even all opened yet. Places like Tortilla Joe's, Ralph Brennan's, and Ballast Point could all theoretically open right now, but they aren't. There is a major issue with the fact that Disney is severely limiting attendance at DtD. There isn't enough foot traffic, even at the current maximum capacity, for all these restaurants to justify reopening and operating at a loss, basically. Now, if Disney FULLY opened DtD without capacity limitations, we'd have a different situation altogether.

I honestly wonder how long Disney will restrict attendance at DtD. I think as long as they do, we won't see all the restaurants and stores open. I think many are waiting until the parks reopen.

I saw a sign outside of Ralph Brennans saying they will reopen soon. Not sure what is considered soon, so maybe over time they will increase capacity at DTD. Right now it seems low (which is good).

Yeah, Napolini had a similar sign. I don't think it means much of anything, unfortunately. On the RB IG page, someone asked them recently when they would open and they answered "we have no information or reopening date at this time, but will let you know as soon as we have a date to share."

They are waiting for the parks to open. Guarantee it.

Dining options aside, I wouldn't be paying $600-700 a night to stay at the Grand without the parks being open. That much just for the 'privilege' of DTD and being on Disney property? Nope.

But I don't see them lowering the rates just to get people in rooms, either. With all the extra steps they need to take re cleaning & sanitizing and 'patrolling' for masks & SD, I'm sure they'd have to increase staffing and supplies which increases costs and lowers profits. Not gonna happen.
