Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

My hope is that DL opens for Resort guests and select AP's (ones not normally blocked out in July) when the hotels were supposed to open on 7/23. Stay at that very limited capacity for a week and then open for other hotels, ticket holders and all AP's at the end of the month. In a limited capacity again of course.
Although this wouldn’t work for my family (we are staying at The Tropicana) I love this hope. I don’t see it happening since the hotels are telling people they won’t be open this month.

Just a reminder for anyone deciding to bring face shields to the parks when they reopen: Disney has stated that they will be requiring face masks (with ties/ear loops), so don't forget to pack those along with the shields!
It's always a good plan to have both. While face shields provide more complete coverage (for example, also covering the eye area, which we know through studies is another area of transmission-one we discuss a lot in the ophthalmology world), they certainly would not work for you on a ride at all!

My bet is still on after Labor Day. I think he will wait out these three weeks, see if conditions are improving, and if they are, then allow restaurants and other things that were re-closed to re-open. I don't think he will give the theme parks clearance until he has a few weeks to see how that goes, especially since schools will start reopening around that same time.

I rebooked our April trip and as I was doing so, I booked it for 9/6 thinking that was the earliest I saw Disneyland potentially being open. Unfortunately Labor Day is later this year, so if they decide to wait until after the holiday, we are out of luck. Hopefully they’ll allow us to rebook with the same awesome discount and $50 Per night resort credit if they aren’t open.

I just received an email stating that the DLR hotels will not be open in July, but you can make reservations for August.
Actually an acquaintance of mine said that they were told they can move their booking to August 1 and beyond. So maybe (and this is a long shot I know) they will still open a weekend before the hotels like they were going to last time? Idk how possible it is seeing how they would have to call everybody back and train them within that time, but just guessing🤷‍♀️

Disney Food Blog has the most current update on “face coverings” allowed at WDW:

“A Cast Member we spoke with said face shields are also an acceptable face covering since they cover the nose and mouth. They haven’t seen many folks wearing face shields, but they’re allowed.”

Which seems weird because face shields don’t protect others unless a mask is also worn along with the shield.

Actually, face shields protect very well. They aren't my personal choice, but the University of Iowa has done some very good studies on this. Of course, if you want to be as safe as possible, wear both. But a shield blocks droplets not only to and from others with direct transmission (the same as a mask), but also protects transmission from the eye area as well. In addition, it helps to prevent the wearer from touching their face, which is a large source of transmission as well.
So while many wear masks because they are easy for us to pull on and off, and for a while shields were hard to get ahold of- they are a very valid option that should not be discounted for those that find breathing in masks uncomfortable, wish to drink carefully through a straw as discussed, or even wish extra protection.

Also, does anyone else get this image when trying to check the calendar on the app for block out dates? I have a deluxe and was double checking availability for August but I keep getting an error message.....

He was very caucus unfortunately. He only said, in response to a question, that it is “...safe to reopen...” but that’s all, and he said that it is safe ONLY if the guidelines are followed. He did reiterate the current guidelines for now, but he did not mention A timeline of any sorts.
I have a feeling we'll hear from DL in the next day or two.

Thanks! I can see that shields block droplets but the shield-wearer still exhales/inhales unfiltered air which contain aerosols...especially inhales those found in a restroom. 😷

I read through the comments in the DFB article that I linked and some say WDW won’t allow face shields-only but DFB has yet to amend or update their article.

I’m also in the camp that I don’t want to be the first group in for the reopening- I want things figured out first and plus see how well enforcement goes. I also want to know specifics of what’s open vs. what’s not (rides, shows, things in swge etc etc.) before I commit.

I wasn’t happy to see United opened up all middle seats for our flight (end of September) after I was told when I booked they were staying blocked off. Seems like other airlines are following suit as the summer goes on for their Fall flights.

Really?!! We are flying United, and we chose our row at that time based on middle seats being blocked. I guess I need to change my seat so I'm actually sitting next to my husband?

Yes I think I saw somewhere that United and American were going to book their flights full going forward.

Well according to this article, United will only fill it to capacity if they have to. But they will notify you if the flight is full and allow you to switch.

Even with the middle seat empty policy, I think you could still sit next to your immediate household on request at the airport or during boarding.

I have always hated flying United or American. I have always felt that their cabins were more cramped, seats closer together, and customer service worst. Delta is usually my airline of choice and then Southwest. It appears that these are the airlines that are best working with trying to social distance their customers. I applaud them and will continue to stick with them. They are taking in less earnings for their customers safety.

I can't believe Disney continues to give people false hopes of the parks opening. They really shouldn't be taking reservations at this point. They should just wait until they are given the okay to open.

I really feel bad for people who keep scheduling vacations based on them allowing reservations starting on X date.

Yup, they didn’t notify me either. I was just bored (story of our lives these days) and thought I’d see how the seat availability looked and yup... middle seats wide open. We did seat assignments so we could have the far back row (logic was no one behind us- less breathing coming at me?) so I suppose I gotta call too to make sure we’re next to each other.

I might not even bother messing with it until we get Disney news since I might have to reschedule it all anyways... Unfortunately I’m working with the flight credit from our rescheduled trip so I’m stuck with them unless I’m willing to repurchase tickets and I don’t wanna. 😅

At least DTD opens this week- gives us some kind of news to read, right? Some small joy?!

Their 30” pitch on a 5hr flight sucked. If I had known, I would have “upgraded” to a less inhumane seat.

And in other news, just got this in my inbox...
