Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Anyone else out there starting to wonder if they may delay the actual opening of WDW & DL? Both FL & AZ are appearing to be national hotspots and California (with I'm sure many from AZ looking to travel to Cali for DL) has seen a pretty good rise in cases lately as well. I know all states still seem to be moving forward with their re-opening plans but in another 2-3 weeks I wonder what these numbers will look like and if there will begin to be talk of not allowing large venues like theme parks actually open up.

I don't think they will delay openings. People need to work. US Disney Parks employs ~150k employees, many of which who have been furloughed and are about to have their extended unemployment benefits run out. People gotta eat and bills to pay. And Disney has committed to being safe.

I bought mine outright, not upgraded, at the DLR ticket booths and had 119 days, from the start of the DLR closure to the day WDW opens, added. I wonder if they’re treating passes upgraded from as DLR pass differently?
Maybe, mine was a signature plus that was upgraded to premier so I’m still on a payment plan with 2 payments to go.

A lot of people are. It's asked like every 2 hours on the WDW opening rumor page :P

Most of us think the answer is no. COVID isn't going anywhere, Disney is keenly aware. I think they will only shutdown/slowdown opening if governments tell them to.

I also think that they have to figure a TON of stuff out before opening. I am sure they are working hard trying to get all the new procedures in place, training of all the CMs on the new procedures, along with the many different array of circumstances for hotels, tickets, APs, etc. I am sure a lot of that stuff will need to go through a legal team as well, before they announce anything too.

Just got this email from DL. Not really anything new but at least they’re thinking about us ;-).

Well, I guess maybe I should clarify who the “they” was in my original post. I was thinking more at the state or even local county level saying that they want to have WDW/DL delay their openings. I don’t see Disney willingly backing down at this point because it is a lot of people/process/technology to not only begin spinning back up but to also wind down again but if the positive cases plus the increase in hospital capacity continues to skyrocket you have to start wondering if they would want to see large venues close.

The government coffers are running super dry, they need Disney open more than Disney needs to open. They're not shutting Disney down in either state unless the emergency rooms are overflowing and while on a percentage basis hospitalizations are alarming on a basis of how much space they have left in hospitals neither area is in trouble.

I think it’s more likely in Florida than California. Florida’s cases are quickly becoming out of control and DeSantis is not likely to take the type of action that Newsome did today; by the Fourth of July, Florida may very well have overflowing hospitals. California has been seeing concerning, but not spiraling, increases in some counties. Hopefully today’s mask order means that by the Fourth of July, case increases in those and surrounding counties will be stabilizing.

WDW also has the NBA coming in August. If it comes to it, I suspect that Disney would rather keep the NBA than admit “normal people”. If it looks like it is too risky to have the public and the NBA together, I would not be surprised to see them delay their opening so that the NBA can continue with its games or tournament or whatever sportsball they’re playing out there 😛

My same thoughts exactly.

Well DeSantis might not, but looks like Orange County (Florida) just did: https://www.orlandosentinel.com/cor...0200618-enqynb4j5jc37i6gk6atj4fave-story.html

I feel like that’s how the mask order has been enforced where I live in LA.

I should also add maybe LA isn’t the best example Of mask enforcement since we have been having spikes in cases and have been out of compliance with restaurants lol
I think Ferrer mentioned some restaurants were out of compliance because they were not following the most recent set of guidelines. Not to be too hard on LA, there have been a lot of guidelines issued.

So true! I can't keep up with all of them myself. I've been out a little more. From what I've seen stores have been following guidelines. There is limited capacity to enter, so there is a chance you may have to wait in a line outside. I haven't been to a sit down restaurant yet so I can't speak on those.

They don’t because the state order covers the whole state. Whether some places will try to enforce it who knows? The order doesn’t have penalties in it so if a county wanted penalize I guess then they would need their own order (which I can’t imagine they do after all they went through but who knows?)

My takeaway is everyone going to DLR should be prepared to wear a mask at all indoor locations in CA, but should be aware other people may or may not abide by that.
I think Riverside County has said they will not enforce (ticket or cite). LA did the same for the first few weeks...the goal was to inform and not penalize.

Masks are still required outdoors in public spaces if 6 feet distance cannot be maintained. I still hope this means Disney lowers the allowed attendance so that masks are not needed.

Same here. I have asthma and it makes cloth masks very difficult. Against my normal standards of waste reduction, I've bought a 50 pack of disposable masks on Amazon. I hope I can breathe easier in them. Otherwise, as a Northern California resident, I'm not leaving my home anytime soon.

Disney has already said masks will be required for all guests age 2 and older, even if government regulations would not require it. It’s part of their agreement with the unions.

This was released today regarding health and safety measures: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...rks-our-continued-focus-on-health-and-safety/

Hey. I’m asthmatic too. FWIW, I’ve been off refined sugar for 30+ years and I believe that’s helped a lot. There are also some deep-breathing exercises you can do that might also help (they’ve helped me).

Incidentally, I believe that DL will require cloth masks. It doesn’t sound like disposables will be allowed.

Interesting, where have you seen that? I was hoping for disposable because the idea of wearing a mask on my face that was with me in bathrooms is kinda 🤢. I mean, I have a lot of cloth masks, but not enough to switch out after every potty break.

Disposables were okay at Disney Springs and Shanghai so I’m sure they’ll be fine? Most of the people I see are wearing those more than cloth masks.
