Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Not trying to put a damper or be a pessimist, but trying to be realistic. We are still in a pandemic and while the parks are opening, it is not back to normal at all yet.
That's totally fair. In my heart, I'm still thinking late September for something close to "normal", but it's just how weird everything has been.

The one thing that keeps me open as far as APs - I keep wondering if we're in any way overestimating what park attendance will actually look like, especially during weekdays. If the new Membership program is a "3 reservations at a time" kind of thing, it would be more limited than an old AP was, and they could cap the volume with park reservations. The available days would initially mostly be limited to weekdays, so it'd almost be a like a de facto Flex pass. Theoretically, it would help fill the park on those lower-attendance days (whenever they exist).

The WDW solution was to send you to Epcot, which is huge and still a park. I think it even worked during spring break. With DL having such tight capacity, it’s a problem I’m worried about too. DL is a one time deal for me.
Yeah, agreed!

More fun with Disney tech. But the language on the ticketing page makes it sound like they're going handle it on the website:

"Be sure to login to your Disney account first to link valid tickets prior to the reservation system. Until further notice, only California residents may visit the parks, and in groups no larger than 3 households, in line with current state guidelines. Proof of residency may be required."

They're letting people with existing tickets see which days they're eligible to book on April 9th, which might give some folks a chance to spend a couple of hours on the phone getting it straightened out if they can't get their tickets added. (I say that slightly tongue-in-cheek, knowing that a lot of Disney tech issues seem to get "sorted out" with a little bit of a shrug from a helpless CM.)
Curious, @brightlined, do you think that those of us with tickets linked in the app actually "have" tickets on the website, but we just can't "see" them there? It's weird that there is nowhere for someone to see their tickets on the website--can you see them there somehow if you ADD them there, as opposed to in the app?

Maybe? I'll let someone else weigh in - the last time I had a ticket, I upgraded it to an AP, and it was just there, so I'm not sure if my original ticket(s) were in both.

If you log into the website, and hit My Profile under My Disneyland, then Memberships and Passes - maybe the tickets will be there? (This page: https://disneyland.disney.go.com/profile/affiliations/edit/)

I have this question as well, since I can see my tickets in the app but nowhere on the website...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is having this problem. They have been linked in my app for over a year, but I still can't see them on the website.
Right? Will they show up in the reservation system since it's linked to the account? Months ago I spoke with a CM and they said it's just linked to the account and will not show on the website. How did WDW do it?

This is good to know!

I tried calling today to ask, but after two hours on hold my call failed. I'm assuming they're going to let us use the app to do it. But like you said, every time I go the website, it only brings up linking tickets, not my already purchased tickets. But if I try to link them, it says they're already linked. I'm guessing we just can't see them on the website, but I'd feel better with confirmation before Monday! I might send an email and hope to have a response before then.

I think it's BRUTAL that VGC owners with existing reservations are not getting priority or a special bucket of park reservations to choose from like they do at WDW. Disneyland is showing no understanding of the fact that we have to book 11 months in advance and can't just drop a reservation a couple months ahead of time if we don't get a park reservation.
I think this might be because we are such a small crowd. On any given hotel night/park day, they're only looking at 74 households, so we are a miniscule group for them to want to cater to.
I'm still hopeful that they'll have a "staying at the DL Hotels" bucket of tickets that perhaps they'll open up if OC is in Yellow instead of Orange by then ... in the meantime I'm fearful that when 4/15 rolls around we won't be able to get tickets and reserve our days before Memorial Day weekend is sold out, then I'll have to figure out if I _really_ want to go and stare at the parks being open without having access, or rent out my reservation to someone who was lucky enough to get one since the points are expiring.

Seems like it would be less likely to crash the IT system if they'd let you buy tickets a few days before reservations could be made ... so everyone wasn't trying to do both on the same day.

All that does is bring up a place to link tickets. Not view already purchased tickets.

I tried that. It doesn't show them there either. It's only to link an AP or DVC Membership.

Maybe the website is being updated and they'll pop up?

All the same for me. No tix in any of those locations. Given that they have the reservation system info in the app, I'm hopeful that we'll be able to use the app to make the reservation as well as the website, but who knows.

I've seen people talking here and there about seeing stuff appearing and disappearing in their accounts, so hopefully they're working on some of this. Hopefully, it's just a matter of the website page simply not displaying that particular type of admission, and them changing the page to add that. (The wording of that page to focus on VC and AP suggests that it was only coded for those, but the link page is already being announced to be used for linking existing tickets to accounts.)

I dunno who's looking at the app, but right now I see Buzz, Matterhorn, and Jungle Cruise down April 30 to May 18 (last day in the app calendar). GRR down April 30 to May 4.

Hours are 9am-7pm until May 14 when they go to 9-9pm.

I'm slightly concerned how they will handle opening times at the same time considering the crowds that develop for ToD currently in the esplanade.
Jungle Cruise has been planned for some time. Buzz I'm not totally shocked, so much high touch surface and just lots of people per minute in and out.

Matterhorn though, why man? That ride is down like more than half the year every year. I do not get it.

Judging from the Calendar on DL's website (Buzz down through June 25th, Jungle Cruise and Matterhorn through June 28th), it sounds like they're actually down for refurbishment.

But still, what on earth needs to be refurbed at the Matterhorn?! The thing is down for months longs refurbs like semi annually!!!!
Matterhorn is old, it requires lots of inspections and code conformance due to age and propensity to injuries.

I'll take this seriously and give you a way-too-long answer while acknowledging that I have no actual idea, lol.

One of the lesser-known things about wooden coasters - someone has to walk the entire track on a regular basis and hammer the boards back into place. If they don't do that, it slowly becomes more and more chaotic to ride.

Metal coasters need less of that - but, frequently, metal coasters are simply given an expiration date instead. (The Incredible Hulk at Universal Orlando was actually completely rebuilt from scratch a few years ago when the original was deemed to be worn out.)

Since they can't really tear out the Matterhorn, they basically have to do everything they can to rehab it on a regular basis back into something usable.

Honestly, it's kind of a testament to Disney that a sixty-year-old metal coaster is rideable at all.

Buzz would be doable even with covid restrictions honestly. They allowed the gondolas to be used at Oakland Zoo (considered transportation as they are the only way to access the California area of the zoo) and they operated these by alternating which one was filled at which end. Each one that wasn't filled was cleaned at the end it wasn't filled at so it was ready to be filled at the next end. Something similar could be done with Buzz (adapted, of course, but similar).

I agree with brightlined it sounds more like true refurbs even for Buzz.

I'm honestly wondering if they found some issue or something with Matterhorn that they weren't expecting while testing and re-training the past couple weeks. Maybe the same with Buzz too. And since as you mentioned it's a high touch ride, it probably made sense to the Powers That Be to just pull it for a refurb instead of dealing with the cleaning process song and dance it would need to operate under covid restrictions.

Thankfully as sad as I am to see any ride down, none are deal breakers for me if they aren't running.

Anyone know how much a single day ticket goes for these days? It seems to be buried or non existent on the site (or I’m dumb)

Did you see all the food that’s closed? It’s on Mouseplanets Facebook if not. It’s a lot!
